Volunteer at Brave New Films!
We are a small group of passionate people working to make real, tangible, positive change. We're looking for people who have 20 to 60+ hours per week to work on all aspects of our online video campaigns. If you have any spare time this is the place to spend it.
These are unpaid volunteer positions but you will be getting real world, hands on experience and training.
GENERAL HIRING CRITERIA
- Passion: You care about social justice and human rights.
- Flexibility: we are a non-profit and have a lot going on. Be ready to wear many hats and switch gears quickly.
- Can do Attitude: While we do rely on Volunteers to perform routine office work, the primary focus of your work will be specific to your developing skills related to your career interests.
- Impeccable work ethic: we expect Volunteers to follow the policies of our regular employees.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Post Production Intern/Volunteer
Reports to: Lead AE / Post Supervisor
The Post-Production Department seeks a volunteer to assist in digitizing footage, outputting to tape, DVD authoring, basic Final Cut Pro editing, as well as compiling research and presenting reports.
Requires a minimum of 2 days/week commitment (3 days/week is preferable).
Volunteer should have the following skills/qualities:
Description of position
- Detail-oriented & Organized
- Self-starter, proactive, & uses time efficiently
- Excellent research skills
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel; FileMaker is a plus
- Tech-savvy; able to learn new programs quickly
- Basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro is required
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is recommended
- Familiar with the process of posting videos to YouTube and other online websites.
- Familiar with DVD Studio Pro & Soundtrack Pro
- Familiar with multiple video formats & codecs
- Familiar with operating DVR / Tivo decks

TuVision volunteer/intern
Be a part of a new and innovative Facebook project aimed towards the Latino community!
TuVision will portray the rich culture, history, arts, and current events which revolve around this large part of the population. Participant must be bilingual, be VERY Facebook literate, and have a good sense of the Latino community.
Description of position
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Able to work well as part of a team

We prefer someone that can devote 2 full days or 3 half days a week to this project as it is just starting and will need lots of attention. Be part of the nationwide campaign to end the war in Afghanistan! Brave New Foundation is looking for superstar volunteers (or interns) to
organize grassroots screenings of Rethink Afghanistan, the ground-breaking documentary that challenges the current American troop presence in Afghanistan.

Job description:
- Research and recruit groups in targeted congressional districts to screen the film with their Congressional Representative.
- Follow through the entire screening process from beginning to end.
- Be very persistent on the phone to make sure all aspects of the screenings actually happen.
Communications Department Volunteer
Reports to: Communications Director
Description of Position:
The Communications Department seeks a volunteer to transcribe Brave New Films' content. From these transcriptions, Spanish-speaking members of the Brave New Films staff will then translate our content into Spanish so that it is available to more communities.
The Communications Volunteer will work with Communications Director, Martha de Hoyos. The volunteer will transcribe the footage so that Martha can translate it. The volunteer will also help compile a comprehensive list of Latino/a bloggers and African American press outlets. The volunteer will also help update Brave New Films' media database.
All applicants should have strong writing and communication skills. They should have a base understanding of progressive social issues and a personal commitment to social change. They must be flexible, detail-oriented and have a strong work ethic.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with an exciting organization and to help make progressive video content more available to Spanish-speaking communities. This volunteer does not need to speak Spanish.
Communications Department Translation Volunteer (Spanish-speaking)
Reports to: Communications Director
Description of Position:
The Communications Department seeks a volunteer to translate Brave New Films' content into Spanish so that it is available to more communities.
The Communications Volunteer will work with Communications Director, Martha de Hoyos, and translate our videos and other content into Spanish. The volunteer will work closely with Martha de Hoyos in translating and uploading content onto FaceBook En Espanol and Twitter En Espanol. The volunteer will also identify and update Twitter En Espanol and Facebook en Espanol page with Latino reporters from around the country.
All applicants must be fluent in written Spanish. They should also have strong writing and communication skills. They should have a base understanding of progressive social issues and a personal commitment to social change. They must be flexible, detail-oriented and have a strong work ethic.

Marketing and Distribution Department Volunteer
Reports to: VP of Marketing and Distribution
Description of Position:
The Marketing and Distribution Department seeks a Volunteer to help bring visibility to Brave New Films' work.
Some of the responsibilities of the Volunteer will be:
- The Volunteer will be part of our First Responder Team to review YouTube comments and blog comments on our campaigns.
- Research partner organizations and chart their social networking presences and activities.
- Review emails we receive on YouTube and respond appropriately.
- Pull monthly reports on video views -- requires knowledge of Excel.
- Research potential partner organizations that are interested in our campaigns on Facebook.
- Regularly "Digg" and "Reddit" blog posts or videos.

Studio Volunteer
Reports to: Studio Director and Studio Producer
Description of Position:
Assists in the Production of all shows shot in our state of the art studio. You will be breaking down and setting up sets and equipment. You should be familiar with the p2 workflow, final cut pro, and have some basic lighting, grip and sound experience. We are looking for someone with the following:
- Attention to detail
- A can do/pitch in attitude
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Very motivated and a self-starter
- Able to work well as part of a team
- Familiarly with Panasonic P2 work flow
- Working knowledge of Final Cut Pro
- Some audio knowledge will be helpful
- Any studio experience is a plus
