Funny thing is... references say that she has a 3.5 GPA at her high school. What does that say about the SC educational system?

Seriously though, you can tell she had a few "canned" answers that she had been unfortunately "coached" to say. I can just hear her "coach" now.... "Be sure to say something about South Africa, and Iraq and Asia, because those are fashionable and important issues now, just figure out how to work them into your answer and you will be golden!"

Sadly, she tried to do it, but lacked the ability to do so, and it just made her look like a complete idiot.

I have to agree (at least to a degree) with everyone claiming that US Americans have a very poor education system. You have to bear in mind that we have people like her in charge. People who believe Jebus walked on water and such as the Iraq. Personally, I took an auto-didactic approach to education so most of what I know is self-taught from countless hours of reading and researching. My high school library had tons of classics, yet they were not touched for years. The collection of Poe were left for nearly 7 years before I picked it up.

She's a product of American Public Schools or as they (Miss South Carolina & Co.) call it: US American Publick Schoolz, lulz y'all!

She's lucky she has a gorgeous face and a killer body, even if it's just pretty much a dime a dozen these days.

Everyone out there in this great land, please....please....please do not stand idle anymore. We need to take back our country and restore it to its former glory. It seems to me, the problem stems from a society that pits girls/women against each other in a contest that parades them around like cattle at a county fair. Which is bad enough in itself, but then to have millions of Americans spending their time watching such garbage is a true testimony of the times. Very sad!

As someone said above, this is a get-rich culture arising from Brittney Spears/Lindsay Lohan/Paris Hilton culture. Americans are now becoming dis-interested in going to college and parents are pushing kids to the Arts bcz they believe that's where the dough is. I do not blame Bush. It's the culture. I held America in high esteem b4 i came to college here. Do u believe that about 90%+ of engineering students offering master's degrees are foreigners or shld I call them "immigrants." It is aweful the way Americans are taught in high school that their country is the greatest country on earth yet they fail to teach them how to locate their own country on the World map. It's not only an education system gone wrong but also the culture.

I dont believe it's stage fright nor is it bcz she's a teenage girl. It resonates the whole American educational system. I dont know whether any of u have read this book, "American poor grasp of geography." Any of u shld go find this book and read it. I'm an immigrant and I've taken my American born kids back to my country to have their high school education all bcz I know by those I schooled with here that they lacked lots of basic knowledge. Americans sucks in math and even cannot write the english they speak. Immigrants both high tech and 'uneducated" have helped this country a gr8 deal and all of a sudden bcz of these so-called conservative Republicans, excluding Bush, have become hostile to immigrants. Even the way Americans pronounced the word "IRAQ" is appaling. You have to pronounce the word the way the "owners" pronounce it not your way. Americans also suck when it comes to spellings.

I don't know that blaming teachers, parents, or society for a pretty blonde having an incoherent moment on TV makes a whole lot of sense. How many of you out there could answer a question, under hot lights, on high heels, in a tight dress, with tons of makeup, while being watched by a couple million people? While we're at it, why isn't there a contest that makes men parade around in tight clothes and answer questions coherently? Oh yeah, Football. Ever hear a Pro Athlete answer a question and sound incoherent? At first I laughed, but think about what this girl's life is going to be like once she gets home?

As far as teachers not getting paid enough, starting teachers in the Toledo Ohio area received a salary of $34,420 in 2006 with veteran teachers in the Ottawa Hills area of Toledo being paid $75,438 per year. The poorest paid teacher in the area started at $27K+. This for part time work. Teachers work about 1520 hours of work per year counting the summer off, spring break, winter break, Thanksgiving, MLK, Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.

So that makes the highest paid teacher getting about $50/hour and the newest starting teacher getting $22/hour. Wish I could have been all of 22 or 23 years old and starting at that pay.

Teachers are overpaid and underworked. They use the same curriculum they developed 10 years ago and are way too authoritarian. They dress poorly anymore and think being a teacher gives them all sorts of rights. Kids are idiots today because teachers teach poorly, parents don't give a shit, money gets thrown at the problem and we have too many kids being born to idiots who think they are puppies and can treat them as disposable.

Wow... I live in NORTH Carolina and know alot of people from South Carolina and none of them sound that stupid. I have to believe that she just froze and lost all of her thoughts and what we heard was the last 100 words in her mind. Made absolutely no sense. The big problem is parents. Overprogramming their kids and then refusing to support the teachers who teach them. (Don't you DARE criticize my dear little Johnny or I'll SUE!) In a public school the teachers have to shut up and deal with what ever is tossed their way. In a private school if little Johnny doesn't study, or gives trouble (or if his parents throw too much attitude around) he gets his butt tossed out. And where does he land -- you guessed it -- public school, where the teachers get to put up with his crap and that of his parents.

It has nothing to do with the amount of money. Private school teachers are paid less than public school teachers and usually don't have benefits or pensions.

Please don't judge all of our nation by Miss SC's response. They do hold the ranking for the worst education in the U.S. I went to graduate school at the University of South Carolina and thought I was going to lose my sanity with all of the stupidity!
