I do know what your talking about, I too have come across those who turn first and sometimes only to slurs normally back up with no fact. Do you think there is anything wrong with the amount of taxes we pay coupled with the lack of services for those of lesser means? As you see when a corporation is powerful enough to rise through the ranks of earnings above 18 million there is no gain in the tax rate. There is a problem when a company making 18 million pays 35% along with the company making 50 billion. Say you keep rates in correct proportion to the earnings you would see a huge surge almost immediately in money paid to the fed allowing funds for countless pubic services and possibly, slight tax cuts for individuals in all tax brackets.

As for the rich paying more in taxes - Corporations get huge subsidies for things that should be controlled by the free market and a much higher percentage of the rich benefit from that. Just look at sports or oil or corn or military contractors or the war on drugs - list is unending.

There is very little difference between a welfare queen and a corporate politico that back slaps for subsidies and gov contracts. They both are only interested in what they can get for free.

The world is run on corruption and our country is no different, the richest didn't get that way by doing what's best for the world. Yet we assume we should be able to tell the rest of the world they should do as we say - not as we do!

I have been writing on this site for many months looking to debate with liberals about current political issues. At the beginning, I promise, I was as nice and as courteous as you are; however, after debating with many of the others on this site and hearing "You voted for Bush Why do you hate America" thousands of times, it became more of an argument and rounds of name calling. I truly enjoy debating politics with people of different political ideology but I fear I have stooped to the "why do you hate america" level. For that I apologize.

Now back to the debate. Your point about the taxes was excellent, and I have to admit I have never thought about the tax system that way; however, I firmly believe that the overwhelming majority of people in this country who are in the top 1% of the tax bracket have worked incredibly hard at their jobs to make that money (Very few people like Paris Hilton who inherited their money). Also, the tax system in this country is set up as a doubly progressive system. For instance, federal taxes are based on a percentage system, which means people who make more money will pay more to the government. The tax rate also goes up higher when you make more money. One family might pay 15% of their income to the federal government, while the family that is in the highest tax bracket at $300,000 will pay 35%.

For those that want the people making more money, how much higher do they want their tax bracket to be? Its already at 35%, should it be 50%? Or perhaps 75%. I don't know about you, but I would definitely not work as hard if the top tax bracket was 75%.

If the taxes were linked to the individual's percentage of the total wealth in the country, everyone would pay varying amounts until everyone had the same amount of money. That is not how capitalism works, in fact, that is called communism.

I guess my main point with my first comment about the amount of total taxes that the top 1% pay is to show that the media's view that the rich "don't pay their fair share" is completely ridiculous.

I find it hard to believe that Bush rigged the 2004 election. I am not sure which election you were referring to but if there were problems with the 2004 election, you can bet everything you have that the New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, and other liberal media outlets would have been all over it.

I'm glad you like to look at those crazy conservative sites, and so I thought I would give you a good one. Its called newsbusters.org. Its a great site, although I guess you won't really like it. The purpose of the site is to link to instances of liberal media bias. Now to your tax thing, yes I saw that chart I believe you’re referencing and I must say I was a little shocked the numbers were that high. Your point on the top 5% paying half of taxes collected "52% I think" is very true, what I would like to bring up is a possible little known fact. As of 2001, the top 1% of households (the upper class) owned 33.4% of all privately held wealth, and the next 19% (the managerial, professional, and small business stratum) had 51%, which means that just 20% of the people owned a remarkable 84%. That’s what I came across during my research of your tax comment and my resulting questions into wealth in our country. Now I’m not gana sit here and say those people didn’t work for what they have (although most wealth comes from the cotton/industrial revolution days and is passed down within families). That said not all the wealthy sit on there asses collecting their inheritance.
Not the point I’m trying to make here. Let’s talk generals, if the top 20% owns 84% of all private wealth in the country then shouldn’t they be paying a fair share of taxes compared to how much they actually own/earn? They pay higher taxes because they have more money, that’s how taxes “on a basic level” are supposed to work. Bottom line is, if you earn more you pay more. I definitely see how at first you look at that tax figure you can get a little upset but you have to look at all factors including those peoples net worth.
My point with brining up this whole tax conundrum was the misallocation. Our tax system is heavily flawed and needs to be fixed, and I don’t think that necessarily means taxing anyone any more as much as it does mean abolishing the IRS and instituting a new effective system capable of supplying all Americans with basic needs.
This goes into another point about America being one of the richest country but having a significantly high unemployment rate an appalling number of dirt poor/homeless people and a failing education system. This country needs change my friend this I don’t think anyone can deny, at least I hope not for much longer.

The only new thing there saying is that he had access to classified documents and MAY have taken them, there is no new evidence of anything all new reports even say that he destroyed only copies of documents not originals. All they got is a guy “mind you three years after the fact” saying he might have seen him hide papers near a constructions sight, but no mention of why if after he made it outside of the Archives he would go to the trouble of hiding them across the street to pick up later. Now I’m thinking you may mention the bombing of the Gold Mihor Hotel in Aden, Yemen, which supposedly was conducted by Al Qaeda. What I'm saying is the left always wants to raise the percentage of what the wealthy are paying and it only trickles down to having the average the guy pay. That is one reason why I got of NY.
