Although I never expected Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to be a big civil libertarian, I was still surprised to see his misstatement of the issue at the Fox News sponsored debate on September 5 in New Hampshire. I totally agree with you, this kind of gaffe should be quite damaging for any political candidate. However, if he can get away with doubling Guantanamo, he can get away with this gaffe too. How truly sad that his convoluted argument will make perfect sense (and be perfectly sensible) to those in his base. As a Canadian, I feel so sorry for you in the United States. This kind of political talk just doesn't work here. You aren't fighting terrorists, you are just fighting each other.
