The Center for American Progress sets the facts straight in advance of President Bush's speech to the nation September 13, 2007 on the troop surge policy in Iraq. The surge will end in 2008, not because it has been effective, but because the Army lacks sufficient troops and faces a military readiness crisis.

This is not about the war, but it's very important for Democrat candidates to keep in mind when being attacked for their "pro-choice" and "tax raising" positions. I don't know why they don't think about these replies (I've never heard any Democrats express them, and they're so logical, I don't know why they miss them. I use them with my acquaintances and they make them think and many times change their mind. I am pro-life and against taxes, but a Democrat.) My arguments are:
On PRO-CHOICE: Things will not change because a candidate is pro or against abortion. Look at the present administration: Eight years of a "pro-life" president, and what has he done about it?
On RAISING TAXES: Obama (or Clinton, if that's the case) is not going to raise taxes. All s/he's doing is reversing the tax cuts Bush gave to those who least need them. We will go back to the Pre-Bush more just tax system. Under it (Bill Clinton's presidency) companies flourished and the economic situation was the best this country has seen ever (or whenever).
