First of all - the "white tree" story is bullshit! I went to school in Jena. We never had a problem with black kids sitting under the tree. People are making us sound like a bunch of racists. That's not the case. Yeah, there were nooses hung in the tree. That should never have happened. It was wrong - no matter how you look at it. I also believe that 6 boys attacking 1 boy is wrong - no matter how you look at it! If it had been 6 white boys that jumped on 1 black boy & white people were protesting to have all charges dropped then we would considered racist. We can't win around here. I just don't understand why people think that it's ok for 6 boys to knock a guy out & stomp on his head & body is acceptable. I also don't understand why everybody thinks this has to do with the nooses. This beating occurred 4 months after the nooses were hung & involved a kid that didn't even hang a noose. The 3 boys that hung the nooses were punished with a suspension. They looked at is as a prank when they did it - they weren't threatening anybody & nobody was physically harmed. I want everybody to know that there were many events in our town that happened before the attack on Justin Barker. There were several fights. A fight is a one on one confrontation - or at least an even amount on both sides. There is no way 6 boys stomping on an unconcious boys head is a fight. Those boys knocked him out and then stomped on his head and kicked him over & over again. That doesn't sound like a fight to me.

I would also like to address something else. There has been thousands of dollars raised as a defense fund for the Jena 6. There is no denial that the beating happened & Justin's family has accrued some pretty substantial medical bills. Why haven't the parents of the boys that attacked him offered to pay any of his medical bills? I will tell you why. It's because they are all buying brand new cars - like jaguars. I can understand people standing up for and wanting to help these kids if it was warranted. It's not warranted in this situation. I live in this town & I have seen these things with my own eyes. Mychal Bell is a juvenile delinquent that has been arrested several times & is on probation. He has a violent criminal history. He is not in jail because we are racist. He is in jail because he violated his probation. He is in jail because he is violent. He is in jail because that's where he needs to be. If we let him out without any consequences then he will believe that he can do whatever he wants to anybody he wants. I guess people won't be satisfied until he is turned loose. Maybe his next victim won't be as fortunate as Justin was. Justin lived! The next victim might not. Maybe then people will stop saying we locked him because he's black & they will see he's locked up because he is a criminal!
