"They probably should have called up that National Guard in those days, maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam."
No, we wouldn't have. More National Guardsman would have lost their lives though, kind of like the ones Bush has gotten killed in Iraq who only joined to get their education covered.
Oh, and of course Bush isn't bothered that people made phone calls to get Quayle in. Hell, they made phone calls for him (even though he lies and says "I don't think so" when asked) and he still couldn't be bothered to show up (nose candy can cause quite a crash).
There is something very wrong with the press in this country. As you can see, it was quite evident what a moron he was long before he got "elected" and brought this country to the brink of ruin.

YUP, and the real funny thing is that veterans and soldiers, and of course contractors think he is a war hero of sorts, just from talking trash like a drunken bombastic clown. Give them money and tell sissies they are heros, and they won't want the facts. Works everytime. Throw the dogs a bone.
Let me explain why, please.
Very few people in Iraq, in or out of uniform are in danger. Trust me, if they were they would be home tommorrrow. Dead or alive that is.
The guys who are in uniform and generally those outside of uniform are mostly support personnel, and they are the one's(just like Shrub) that invariably talk the most about being patriots and wanting to fight and go to war. Sounds wierd, I know, but invariably the cooks and clerks talk the most trash at the VFW and in the NCO's club.
The rest of the Real Soldiers are too fucken busy, and too fucken tired to brag about what they want. They already have it.
Careful what you wish for.
As for many of the people on here, you or your kids avoided a draft, in a small part, by having guys like Blackwater Men(and one chick) establish the turf there in a serious, take no guff, dangerous way. Now that things have settled down, you treat them like criminals.
All of the real corrupt companies(ie: support personnel contractors(ie. clerks, truck drivers, maintenance technicians, etc.) contributed enormously in you and your kids avoiding the draft.
Even in WWII only 14% of the soldiers were infantrymen, but seven out of ten of them got killed or seriously disabled, but I think dead. You would have to draft people if it were dangerous. Trust me on this one. It is no surprise that the CIA's, Bush Family Robinsons avoided real combat.
It's freaken dangerous.
