John, use your common sense if you have any, as you seem to be bereft of it - other REAL experts state that the jet fuel would have largely dispersed on initial impact(s). What would have caused weakening of the steel say...in the basement? The main floors? The fifth floor or the tenth? There was NO FIRE as there was no trickle-down of the fuel. Why were explosions going off everywhere - including the basement and on many floors as attested to by FIREMEN going up and OFFICE WORKERS running down?

Why was Dan Rathers' comment removed from TV: "If you didn't know any better you can almost say those bldgs seemed to have come down like in a demolition with well-placed explosives" (or similar words).

This is exactly the crux of the matter - the collapse was total and complete!! Since, according to your post, the NIST cannot explain how the collapse started and why it ended up as total and complete, is there ANYONE that can? The simple reason for posing that question is that the official story is so utterly implausible it borders on the ridiculous. These were not 10 storey bldgs - and with the 47 storey WTC 7, these bldgs became the first 3 steel framed structures to collapse because of fires - that burnt between 3 to 5 floors. In bldg 7, fires were smaller and spread out.

You are questioning the NIST report. Have you ever read the 9/11 commision report? The publics' right to know was stifled by glaring omissions and outright lies. Even Condi Rice, in this, and other inquiries did seem to be having early attacks of alzheimers. Here are some reasons NIST report was not taken seriously:
“World Trade Center disaster investigators [at NIST] are refusing to show computer visualizations of the collapse of the Twin Towers despite calls from leading structural and fire engineers, NCE has learned. Visualisations of collapse mechanisms are routinely used to validate the type of finite element analysis model used by the [NIST] investigators.”
NIST ignores contradictory evidence. Since their original model did not prove their predetermined conclusion they had to fix their data until they get the desired result—building collapse.
NIST’s theory couldn’t be proved with the original data, so they changed the data, which was different from the eyewitness reports and photographic evidence.
“The focus of the Investigation was on the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse for each tower. For brevity in this report, this sequence is referred to as the “probable collapse sequence,” although [the investigation] does not actually include the structural behavior of the tower after the conditions for collapse initiation were reached.”
The NIST report is irrelevant if it can’t explain the “structural behavior of the tower” after the collapse began. Absurdly, the only focus of the report is to prove that the collapse started, not explain what happened after it started, and why the collapse was total and complete. NIST can’t even prove convincingly why the collapse began.
It is clear that NIST didn’t even attempt to explain how the towers completely collapsed because they couldn't—they would have to make reference to conservation of momentum, which would completely disprove their entire theory. This is a perfect example for why the NIST report is unscientific and is completely worthless.

Obviously the findings have no traction. The report has many flaws and has been dismiised by many. You can continue to believe what you want and continue on you path to "Truth,Justice and the American way" you can also believe you Superman wanting to save then world. Bill Doyle and Bob McIlvaine today filed a petition with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seeking correction of inaccurate factual statements and analysis in NIST's reports on the destruction of the Twin Towers.

Mr. Doyle is the representative of the largest group of 9/11 families, the Coalition of 9/11 Families*, and lost his own son Joey in the collapse of the twin towers.

Mr. McIlvaine, an outspoken 9/11 truth activist, lost his son Bobby when the World Trade Centers were destroyed.

The National Institute for Standards and Technology has been forced to admit that the total free-fall collapse of the twin towers cannot be explained after an exhaustive scientific study, implicitly acknowledging that controlled demolition is the only means by which the buildings could have come down.

In a recent letter (PDF link) to 9/11 victim's family representatives Bill Doyle and Bob McIlvaine, NIST states, "We are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse."

A 10,000 page scientific study only offers theories as to how the "collapse initiation" proceeded and fails to address how it was possible for part of a WTC structure to fall through the path of most resistance at freefall speed, completely violating the accepted laws of physics.

In addition, NIST's own studies confirmed that virtually none of the steel in either tower reached temperatures hotter than 500 degrees. The point at which steel weakens is 1000 degrees and melting point is reached at 1,500 degrees, according to NIST itself.

"In order to dream up this preposterous scenario, NIST had to ignore its own tests that showed that virtually none of the steel got hotter than 500 degrees f. "Thus total free-fall collapse, even given NIST's ridiculous "initiation" scenario, is utterly impossible. The probability of it happening is exactly equal to the probability of the whole building suddenly falling upward and landing on the moon," concludes Barrett.
NIST have yet to properly address the sudden freefall collapse of WTC Building 7, which imploded on the late afternoon of 9/11 despite not being hit by a jetliner.

In August 2006, NIST promised to scientifically evaluate whether explosive devices could have contributed to the 47-story building's collapse but no answers have been forthcoming.

In August of this year, James Quintiere, Ph.D., former Chief of the Fire Science Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, called for an independent inquiry into NIST's investigation of the collapse of the twin towers.

Quintiere said NIST's conclusions were "questionable", that they failed to follow standard scientific procedures and that their failure to address Building 7 belied the fact that the investigation was incomplete.
