There have been numerous fantastic videos put together by writers--many of them hysterical--to explain the reality of what is happening in Hollywood.
Yet, this one, made by the blogosphere's very own Firedoglake crew (sometimes Jane Hamsher is such a talented blogger that it is easy to forget she was a film producer), is the best, IMHO.
It dispels the myth that screenwriters are all big shots, by reminding the viewer that the average salary for a screenwriter is $62,000 per year and the average unemployment rate among this vocation is 45%. This is in a town where the median home costs $500,000.
Screenwriters are mostly middle class, while the corporate leeches in big production companies suck off their creativity and refuse to pay them what they're worth.
Watch the video! And share it with your friends...If you're a writer, or work creatively in any way, this should be...in fact, this IS personal.
P.S. Also go to FDL, where they have a tool that allows you to choose your favorite show, and you will be sent to the appropriate network executive to let them know how you feel about what's going on.
