Last night I went to see the Will Smith flick. Before the previews came on, the theater played a 3 Doors Down music video advertisement for the National Guard. Watch the vid... it's crazy over the top propaganda, particularly on a giant screen.
Here's the chorus:
Citizen soldiers / Holding the life of the ones that we guide from the dark of despair / Standing on guard for the ones that we've sheltered / We'll always be ready because we will always be there.
When it finally ended (more than thee minutes), someone in the crowd yelled "BOO", then another, "NO WAR" ... I eloquently added "FUCK THIS PROPAGANDA" to the chorus.
It's part of an elaborate marketing program to drive traffic to this site, where you can get an MP3 of the song and contact a recruiter.
Jason thinks it's "inspirational" and it "almost" brought a tear to his eye. ForeverMadonna gives it 4 out of 5 stars.
But do you want to know what a soldier thinks of it?
The military cannot afford to give armor to soldiers in Iraq or give proper medical care for the wounded, yet they are paying Three Doors Down to cavort in a music video in an advertisement? How much money was wasted providing for their large entourage during the filming of this music video? I froze my ass off in Iraq because there were not enough winter coats to keep my squad warm, yet they have the resources to dump on a very slick advertisement?
Not to mention that it is tax-payer money that is funding this.
Thank you, Uncle Sam, I am glad to know where your priorities lie.
Finding more suckers to die for corporate profits.

You know what? Fuck you. Propaganda? You are out of your mind. We are not even allowed to honor the US Military anymore, without whom you would not have your Will Smith flick, nor would you have the liberty to yell "fuck this propaganda" in a crowded theatre? Regardless of how you feel about the war, it's sick, absolutely sick, to call this propaganda. This doesn't even say anything like "call xxx-xxx-xxxx", nor does it say join the XYZ. All this video is doing is honoring the US Military, and if you can't appreciate that, you don't belong in this country. remember how u felt after 9/11? well if it were not for the US mil., you would have a 9/11 every day, not just on 9/11.
