Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, was killed this morning at a political rally. Slated to run in Pakistan's election against their "President" Pervez Musharraf on January 8th.
This was not the first time people had attempted to take her life, primarily because she embodied an idea of real democracy amidst "democratic" dictatorships, and states run by the people as opposed to military states.
Her murder is part of the assault on democracy and equality. Her assassination highlights how important the struggle for actual, people-powered democracy is. Her death is a demonstration of the unshakable committment we should have to giving power to rightfully-elected governments around the world.
The movement should outlive the messenger.
