I will not spend too much time on the internal politics of Pakistan here, for this political murder represents so much more. I don't know what Bhutto could or would have done had she taken back the reigns of power in Pakistan (I have heard words such as "petty kleptocrat" used by those I respect, so her legacy is not so easy to decipher), but I do know she took great personal risk upon herself by returning to Paksistan, to at least try and be a part of the democratic process there.
Whether any of the charges of corruption against her are valid, I simply do not know. What I do know is she had the courage to challenge a dictator, and at least for that she deserves our thanks. She easily could have stayed in exile, with wealth and most likely longevity too. Instead she chose to enter the fray and put her life on the line.
From Michael Collins to Malcolm X, those who speak out quite often end up on the wrong side of an assassin's bullet. Not all are 100% pure, but in most cases, I would thank them for laying it on the line.
So all I'll say as RIP Prime Minister Bhutto. You have joined a long and sad legacy. Those who have stood up to the current order, and paid the ultimate price for doing so. One day, perhaps, human beings will reach a place past personal greed, whether for money, power, etc., where we can solve our problems through dialogue as opposed to wanton destruction.
Sadly, I wouldn't count on that day coming any time soon...

This is indeed a tragic day for the International Community and especially for Pakistan. Bhutto possibly could have won the elections scheduled for JANUARY 8, 2007. She seemed to be interested in Democracy as a "REAL LIFE ALTERNATIVE" to the dictatorship of Musharraf. Isn't it so interesting that the powers that be always blame Al Queda for everthing? And Isn't it even more interesting that after spending almost 1 trillion U.S. dollars in Iraq to supposedly rid the world of Al Queda that they just keep getting stronger and stronger? That is if you believe they are the true culprits in all this.I don't.
