I don't understand why he sticks to this heavy Texas accent and the bad grammar.

I grew up not too far from Midland. His abuse of the rules of grammar is not typical of anyone in Texas or the south who has any education. I can do that accent he assumes, but it is an exaggeration of my normal accent.

He left Midland at any early age. He went to an eastern prep school and to Yale and Harvard. Yale and Harvard for God's sake! (I am proud to note the The University of Texas rejected him for law school.)

His parents don't have a heavy accent. I don't believe we ever heard them unable to adhere to subject and verb agreement.

In my experience people whose parents are not native Texans and who go to Ivy league schools do not sound like roughnecks. My apologies to the roughnecks who would never dream of using bad grammar.

My husband was born in El Paso. His family moved to California when he was about the same age as Bush was when he went to Andover. As a result my husband has very little Texas accent.

So I don't get why Bush talks as if he were a drunk cowboy. He didn't sound so cartoon-ish when he was Governor. I think that perhaps he wasn't drinking then and now he is.

Whatever. He is an such a disaster no matter how he says what he says.

Yes, he lacks the general vivacity verbally of a Kennedy, a Roosevelt, or my hearing impaired child who has a vocabulary of a hundred words and no concept of the sounds "s", "f", and "t", all the while not realizing she's screeching because she can't hear herself.

This is the president of the United States. He is a dufus. And he makes decisions on our behalf, no matter what we say, want, or do.
