Yes Michael Savage has a right to free speech. He is free to say what ever he likes on his own website, with his own supporters, on his own time, with his own dime. But if I shop at Office Depot, I don’t want to be supporting Michael Savage and his point of view. I need some way of ensuring that my money isn’t going toward furthering an agenda of hatred. If I pay Geico and they take that money and buy ad space and the media buyers put the ads on during Savage’s show, my dollars are going toward furthering Savage’s agenda. I have no power, no voice, unless I can ask the companies I support to support other companies that share my POV. We need a participatory democracy, and in a capitalist system that means your money is your voice. If Office Depot tells me they agree with Michael Savage and want to support him by running their ads during his show (thus lending him credibility) I will stop shopping there.
