Thanks, Michelle. And everyone else, too... I just heard Thom Hartmann say that when one takes a pledge, like the Pledge of Allegiance, one puts his/her hand over his/her heart. Period. Not for anthems. Then, I suppose, it's optional/personal.

It's funny how Fox News and other conservatives try to blast Obama for not wearing a stupid little pin but when was the last time you saw anybody on Fox wear one? If they are so critical about people showing patriotism then why aren't they leading the way by requiring all on-air staff wear flag pins? Should I shrink wrap a flag on my car, or how about I wear red, white, and blue everyday, hmm maybe I'll legally change my name to 'I Love America' lol. Patriotism isn't about giving an impression to others.

I think it is a generational thing, from the WWII era, most do not put hand over heart at sporting events but do stand. Get a grip folks...

Nice Blog! I swear, some people are so ignorant and picky about things. When I hear the national anthem, I've never put my hand on my heart, but I'm always standing to solute the flag. I thought putting your hand over your heart is for the pledge of allegiance. I don't know, it just sounds to me that McCain and Hillary supporters can't find anything to nit pick at with Obama, that they have to knock him on patriotism?

I'm a military brat, and on Air Force Bases when they play the national anthem, most people who are not in uniform just stay in place and stand. The military guys in uniform stand in saluting position. I've rarely seen anyone put their hand over their heart...

Anyway, sorry for the long comment, but I don't understand the whole hand over the heart thing as patriotism...

Also, that name Hussein, well, I still think it's more definitive to believe he was named after King Hussein of Jordan who has a great place in history as a peacemaker and certainly a formidable leader of his time.
