John Bird and John Fortune do an excellent job at explaining to us how it is that the markets really work in this hilarious sketch in which an ‘investment banker' is interviewed. They point out that the market is made up of ‘the greatest brains in the world' (I doubt that), and that it is driven by sentiment, not in which they consider the public's feelings, but rather in which the bankers have panic attacks when they lose a deal, and ponder on whether or not to jump out the window. Everything from structured investment vehicles, which is code for ‘package of dodgy debts' with which they make tons of cash by selling and re-selling, to the rewards that they receive due to the ‘ingenuity of the market', this ‘markets for dummies' video of sorts, ingeniously uses humor as a tool to make us aware of what is going on behind the shady world of investing. If the so called ‘great brains' had half the sense of humor, and greed for that matter, we would be in better financial hands. But alas, they do not, and the Johns remind us that in case there were to be a market crash, it is not the bankers that will suffer, but rather our pension funds. Talk about reality check!
