Since Congressman Chris Van Hollen made the announcement on C-Span, that no impeachments would occur during the 110th Congress, maybe he (Pelosi,&Hoyer) should go, too!

You know - winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi's reminds me of the chains of human ears and fingers that were worn around the necks of the killers in Viet Nam. It is estimated that the deaths of innocents in Iraq - non-combatants - women and children - elderly and young. IS IN THE MILLIONS. Wake up to the nightmare!

They don't want to post pictures of their hearts and minds and heinously tortured and mutilated bodies. We only hear of the technical aspects if torture 101 colloquially known as water boarding. (surfs up) How about those that don't make it? Who is really behind the death squads in Iraq.

Every time a anti war bill vote comes up - is the answer. And what they don't "believe" is that they can possibly be voted out. And sadly due to our one dollar one vote campaign funding, re-districting by both parties to ensure incumbents re-election, and the general devil you know vs.....they have, for the most part, proven to be right.And our country wronged.
Polls do indicate who and what our politicians listen to and Alan it ain't us.

Not all Democrats are culpable, but the VOTERS who have given them the impression for 7 years that THEY approve of the Bush tactics ARE. What politician is going to go against the opinions of the majority of voters, especially when they "believe" that the voters would swallow the Bush propaganda and angrily vote them out of office for trying to impeach the administration?

Further, the numbers are not there. Only 51 Senators cannot even stop a filibuster on a NORMAL bill; 67 are needed to convict in an impeachment hearing, and 290 Representatives are needed to hold one. The Democrats have neither, even assuming they would all vote the party line to impeach/convict. And surely, all the GOP would vote the straight party line the OTHER way.

Impeaching NOW, so close to the election, would be the surest way to GIVE THE GOP THE ELECTION, not only for President but for Congress, because the majority would fall for GOP propaganda that opposition to torture, the war, etc is only "politically motivated" and that Pelosi only wants to become the first female President WITHOUT AN ELECTION! Given that Hillary Clinton is running to be the first female President, you know how SHE would vote if it came to a trial.

Rather than voting against incumbent Democrats for not being "Democrat ENOUGH", progressive voters should work and vote for a VETO-PROOF majority in both houses (which incidentally would make a sure-fire impeachment majority if McCain gets in and continues Bush's crimes) and for a Democratic President, whoever the nominee is. The "right" wing voters have been doing that for 20 years and that is how Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. got in, and how Clinton was FORCED to move to the right.

We have the opportunity to take back our country; don't GIVE IT UP to those who would do EVERYTHING wrong, just because our boys and girls might NOT do everything exactly as we would like it!

As a country we continue to be placed in deperate times by the actions of people who ignore laws ENACTED to avoid the very blowback we saw on 9-11.
Which by the way accomplished what was intended - we withdrew US troups from Saudi Arabia. (We don't negotiate with terrorists?)
Torture is an illegal means to acheive a doubtful end. We only have the word of the torturers that it yielded information.
We know that it did yield our status in the
world of law abiding countries. Let the investigations begin.

Rice, Cheney, Ashcroft, Bush and all of the other unconvicted felons belong in jail for their complicity in torture. They are the real terrorists. Unfortunately, many of the Democrats, including my gutless Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, refuse to take any action. She's on the House Judiciary Committee, and she could vote to have impeachment hearings, but she won't. She is pathetic.

I find it fascinating that the news media spent hours describing Monica Lewenski's dress and going over and over what Clinton did but spent less than a few minutes discussing the facts that Bush's White House chronies have committed war crimes. IMPEACH and charge all of them.... and I am an African American woman born during segregation in the south. Trust me, Condi Rice is no sister of mine!

A rose by any other name smells the same. The same is true when it comes to "enhanced interrogation" and prisoners of war being relabeled as "enemy combatants." Torture is a crime and those who authorize it are felons. If we let them go, it's only fair to turn the purse snatchers loose as "purse borrowers;" and rapists loose as "love makers." We need to impeach and prosecute our felons, who haven't stopped bankrupting our treasury and committed serial killings on a genocidal level.
