Of course Clinton is fighting for votes by trying to make people afraid to have a black man in the WH! Her entire political career is based on backroom dealing with partisan groups, allowing them some concession in exchange for their going out and lambasting her opposition.
And of course we will never see Obama out scraping up votes by trying to make people afraid to have a woman in the WH! His entire political career is based on coalition-building, which requires listening to and respecting all sides to an issue, and then working to find a way forward that takes into account some of what everyone wants.
Right now, Obama is learning just how difficult it is to build bridges between disagreeing factions in a climate where others get their power by creating new factions and maintaining old ones. This campaign is his training ground for what he's going to have to accomplish in the ME when he gets into the WH.
