At town hall meeting sponsored by Harlem Tenants Council, the advocacy organization VOTE PEOPLE, informed the attending audience of legal strategies to contest the overwhelming passage of the 125th Rezoning Proposal. General Counsel for Vote People Erica Razook, cited the violation of the "Open Meetings Law" by the New York City Council voted on Wednesday April 30.
ยง100. Legislative declaration. It is essential to the maintenance of a democratic society that the public business be performed in an open and public manner and that the citizens of this state be fully aware of and able to observe the performance of public officials and attend and listen to the deliberations and decisions that go into the making of public policy. The people must be able to remain informed if they are to retain control over those who are their public servants. It is the only climate under which the commonwealth will prosper and enable the governmental process to operate for the benefit of those who created it.
The Open Meetings or "Sunshine" Law went into effect in New York in 1977. Amendments that clarify and reaffirm your right to hear the deliberations of public bodies became effective on October 1, 1979.
In brief, the law gives the public the right to attend meetings of public bodies, listen to the debates and watch the decision making process in action.

This is the Wilhelmina Model Man's group again known as Vote People. Craig Schley (Wilhelmina Model Man) is in the game to create a name for himself and get face recognition. Craig Schley does not really care about Harlem or 125th Street.
Putting another face forward from the Vote People group does not change a sanctimonious pig into a truly caring community leader.
His real desire is to run against Charles Rangel but he must build himself up (even if he is held up by air) in the eyes of the community as someone who cares and gives of himself. What he is actually doing is caring about who he can mooch off of to get information about Harlem and "use" (by trying to get other groups' email lists and free labor) to get to his agenda's end point.
All of Harlem's present politicians should go. Hopefully the people will clean house in the next election (and include in that cleaning process Craig Schley and his ambitions) and vote worthy candidates into office.
And just to make it clear. TrueHarlemite does not work for any politician or opportunistic "wanna be" politicians.
