MCCAIN AND BUSH BOTH OPPOSED FUNDING FLOOD PREVENTION
Obama blasted McCain for opposing funding flood prevention at the US Mayors Conference in Miami, FL, stating, "I know that Sen. McCain felt as strongly as I did, feeling enormous sympathy for the victims of the recent flooding. I'm sure they appreciated the sentiment, but they probably would have appreciated it even more if Sen. McCain hadn't opposed legislation to fund levees and flood control programs, which he considers pork."
McCain stood with Bush in opposing a bill that sets out to invest $23 billion in water projects.
The bill overwhelmingly passed Congress and was vetoed by Bush. Congress, for the first time of Bush's Presidency, voted to override the veto.
