QUESTIONER: ". . . I was interested in the distinction between your nominees to the Supreme Court and the Federal Judiciary and those of your opponents . . .?"

JOHN MCCAIN: ". . . I just want to tell you that it is an important aspect in the selection of the next president of the United States. Most experts believe that there will be vacancies on the United States Supreme Court in the next four to eight years and that they could be as many as three or four . . . I believe it is vital to nominate people to the United States Supreme Court and the federal bench that strictly interpret the constitution of the United States and do not legislate from the bench. [applause] And they're not activist judges. [standing ovation] That's what I believe is absolutely necessary."
