JOHN MCCAIN: "As I said, we can argue about the past but the future is clear and that is that the surge is succeeding, al-Qaeda is on the run but they are not defeated. And over time, I believe that the Iraqi government will function more effectively and we will succeed in Iraq and we will succeed in the region. And that will be beneficial in relation to threats to Israel, Iran, Afghanistan, the entire region. There are great benefits to success and there are great sacrifice we will pay for surrender and failure in the region."
