JOHN MCCAIN: "My friends, I just want to talk about one more thing with you. I saw a sign out there, outside that says 100-year war in Iraq. My friends, there would be a 100 year war if we had done what the Democrats wanted to do and that's declare defeat and surrender and left Iraq according to a [inaudible, muffled by applause] My friends, we're winning this war, we're winning this conflict and al-Qaeda is not defeated. They're on the run but they're not defeated. But I am so proud of this General Petraeus and the brave young men and women have brought about an environment of security, the political process is moving forward. By the way, in case you missed it, the Iraqi parliament just passed a budget. We have not been able to do that in your nation's capital [laughter], so they've got a leg up on us, my friends. So the fact is it is long and hard and tough. And you know for years I fought against the Rumsfeld strategy and I fought for the strategy that is succeeding. I know that Ohio is divided about this war; we all know how much sacrifice has been made, But thank god none of us, none of us, are divided in our support for the men and women who are serving this nation in uniform today. [applause]"
