MCCAIN: "We want to see the democratic process move forward. [...] But you have to remember that the two previous rulers of Pakistan presided over failed states. [...] The thing we need to worry about is Musharraf has to move forward with the process and it radicalizes more of the population. So what I would do is send over the best people over there [...] to talk to Musharraf, and try to get the elections back on track. It is a good thing that Musharraf said that he's stepping down from the Army [...] but he's also got to lift martial law. I'm very concerned. [...] If you have a radical Islamic takeover in a country that has a nuclear arsenal, and sits where it does in the Islamic world politically, we have problems ahead of us."
