JOHN MCCAIN: "If the Chinese want to block action in Darfur, we should act together, if the Russians want to continue to block action to stop the Iranians from developing nuclear weapons we should act together, and impose trade, economic, diplomatic, banking, financial, other sanctions on Iran to try to bring them around to stopping what they're doing. ISo, I would gather these nations, it may not be as formal as some other but I would get these nations together . . . major European financial institutions are extending unlimited lines of credit to Iran; obviously because they're gonna get paid back with oil. If we really put up severe, severe restrictions on Iran it might have some beneficial effect. At least it ought to be tried. The only way I think we're gonna be effective is without going to the UN Security Council."
