John McCain
Town Hall Meeting
Hudson, WI 07/11/08
TRANSCRIPT:
AUDIENCE MEMBER: "You said that you intend to build 45 more nuclear power plants. That's a wonderful proposition. But certainly one with opposition and many opponents. [...] How will you move this country toward accepting that need for more nukes?"
JOHN MCCAIN: "[...] Americans are [...] very, very smart people. And they know what we have to do. And they know that nuclear power is safe. [...] Americans are sick and tired of us doing nothing in Washington. [...] There's a 9 percent approval rating of Congress.
"[...] Anybody who's going to put the country first [...] knows that nuclear power has got to part of the equation if we are going to embark on achieving independence from foreign oil, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our nation's security. [...] I have confidence that this election is a mandate for change [...] Part of that right change is going to be the use of nuclear power.
"[...] Finally, those 45 new power plants will [...] create 75,000 new jobs."

I still would like to know what he will do with the nuclear waste. Why hasn't someone asked him that.
700,000 new jobs? Short term maybe. Long term, no way. I live in Arizona and we have the Palo Verde nuclear plant here, just outside of town. This is the largest nuclear power plant in the country. It employes 2055 workers.
2055 * 45 = 92475
700000 - 92475 = 607525
Where are the other 607525 jobs going to be created that Mccain promises.
