John McCain
Town Hall Meeting
Hudson, WI 07/11/08
TRANSCRIPT:
JOHN MCCAIN: "With your indulgence, I'd like to allow a question from a token male in this audience."
AUDIENCE MEMBER: "[...] You said you want to put 45 new nuclear power plants in. What do you suppose we do with the waste?"
JOHN MCCAIN: "[...] We have to store and we have to re-process. [...] The French today, they have a facility in France—they re-process. Even the Russians have offered and [...] I'd like to pursue it any way to set up a reprocessing facility some place in Russia, in the area around Siberia [...] so we can store it and find ways to store it safely. There are environmental issues that have to be resolved with Yucca Mountain. And I favor going through that process. But I still think that we should both store and re-process. And other nations have done it successfully for many, many years."
