While you bloviate about nothing, in case you haven't noticed, McCain has pulled even with Obama statstically in most polls and is ahead in others. Another potential disastrous give away by my naive Democratic friends may actually be possible and you are worrying about this. I know that thinking of someone as making no mistakes in thier past gives us a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside, but this isn't t.v, its real life.

In real life coruption is rife in government, a lot of it is actually leagalised and in your face. Please dont tell me that you cant see it. There lot of 'faithfull' jerks in power that are not serving thier constituents but are serving themselves. They change thier views as regaurd to the direction that the wind is blowing that particuler day and you think that is O.K as long as they are faithfull to thier wives! That is not O.K folkes! and since i brought up the topic, since i live near DC, i usually get a little political gossip once in a while. when i asked someone, before the primaries, what they thought of mccain, they told me this--they once knew someone who worked with mccain, and he would have the tendency to get really mad, and fire everyone on friday. after letting everyone stew over it on the weekend, he'd hire back everyone on monday. a bit of that, and folks just quit their job.

i was told that story before the primaries got under full swing, and took it for gossip. then, as mccain kept losing staff on his campaign, i realized it's probably very true--he really is that unstable.

i wonder how mccain will handle being president, managing his cabinet? will he just fire people willy-nilly when he feels like it?

I totally agree and as you can see my original comment below was solely about this issue. It is a matter of character, honesty and trust and it is relevant whether it's Edwards, McCain or anyone else.

I would hope that the discussion here in the comments section could stay on track. This is NOT about the morality of McCain having an affair, it's about his ability to break the public trust. If he had an affair once in his past, is it possible that he's done it twice or that he'll do it again OR that he'll break the public trust on a matter more relevant to the lives of Americans? These are serious questions we should be asking right now.

It is inevitable that cheating on one's spouse is "one" issue in choosing who should lead us and to make a case that it shouldn't is naive. It is a matter of character, honesty and trust and it does give one a peek into who that person is, how they conduct themselves, and most importantly what their level of hypocrisy is. It should not be the only factor in choosing a candidate but it is certainly valid for it to be "one factor". If given the choice between two equal candidates, and one cheated and one didn't - I would choose the one that didn't cheat.

To say as was posted below that, "it's a long life and people change, things happen", as a defense of cheating is wrong. The right thing to do is for the person to "be honest" with their spouse and to before they are unfaithful. Ask any woman.

As a European, 'I dont get it', you are electing a manager not a best friend. Its a long long long long long long long loooooong life and people change, things happen. There are plenty of people out thier who wouldn't cheat on thier wives (good for them) who I wouldn't trust with washing my car. Over here private lives are interesting but largely unrelevant.
