Bob, you make it sound like we live in a communist country up here in Canada, with all of our income going to the government. Our taxes are really quite reasonable, especially when compared with the piece of mind we have with never worrying about whether or not we'll get taken care of. If we need help, we get it.

Yes, there are long waits for non-life threatening ailments, but again no system is perfect. It's just a matter of finding one that is better than the others.

I'm really amazed sometimes about the fear Americans have of government run healthcare. You keep mentioning how it would be the beginning of the end if the government took over health care. What exactly are you afraid of?

You do realize that your police are government run don't you? Isn't that like a military state, if you really think about it. They're carrying guns man! Maybe policing people should become a private business. Then whoever has money can be protected, and whoever doesn't, well... too bad for them. I mean really, once you give policing over to the government, it's the beginning of the end.

bob you are talking a lot of rubbish to scare people, its a common tactic for the right.
The facts are that with a public system the costs are way lower than what you pay in private cover. And I mean way lower. Most of us from outside the US are laughing at the charges you pay when we pay around 20% for private cover of what you pay for private cover, and get far better medical. If we rely on our public system we just pay the income tax component (around 5%) to get what you have with your private cover. Your system stinks but the money getting skimmed from the suckers in the US buys a lot of powerful opinions to keep the wool over your eyes. Your too stupid to know it and for that you have what you deserve.

Talk to people in the U.K.as I have. yes they have good medical, but they also have to live in homes that are substandard to what we have. Most of us live like kings in castles compared to them.

When you are sitting in a ward room with 8 other people but it is "free' (because you have paid over 65% of your income to the government for health care, education, roads, police, fire, military etc etc etc) then you can make an informed decision.

There is no such thing as a free ride people, stop looking to the government to fix all your problems.
Most states have health care plans now that you can get coverage for your family for, it is dirt cheep, just because you prefer to spend your money on other things doesn't mean that it is unfordable.

Take some responsibility for yourselves, learn what you are really asking for. If we end up with Michael Moore's "Universal health care" much like Hillary's was initiated, you have no idea what the true end cost is.

Look at what the true cost is and what you will get for it, then and only then can you make an informed decision. Was Hillary's health care plan good?
I don't think so. If I had cancer and wanted a second opinion on it (as most people would - and should) do you really think you should be charged with a felony for bilking the system? Because under that health care plan, you would have been a felon having sought a second opinion.

Learn or believe the hype that this guys is handing out.

Yep, we have health care problems, we have lots of problems, but we work them out. We also have one of the largest populations in the world and a free market system. Meaning we can't have mandatory anything or else it becomes something less than a free market. Making such changes requires you change the government, the constitution, we have to move from a democracy.

I don't think that most citizens of this country are yet ready to move to a socialist state system. But you are slowly giving up your freedoms when you ask for FREE handouts from the government.

As a nurse practitioner who has worked in Spain, England and the US. I can honestly tell you that we have by far the worst healthcare system.
Statistics that were given in the Sanja Gupta interveiw that stated Americans were the most satisfied with their care, worried me. Who were these people? Certainly not the poor of this countery with whom I work!!!

I just have to say to the people that tell Michael Moore that if he loves Cuba's healthcare system so much he should move there. Michael Moore is a patriot and patriots don't leave their country when it's in trouble. He is here fighting for his coutry and enacting the very definition of patriotism and dissent. This an addendum to my previous posting.There are three group of patients who come to USA for treatment.1.People living in border towns which are closer to larger USA hospitals.Reverse is true too.It is reciprocal arrangement on humanitarian gound.2.People who are refused cotroversial and medically unapproved treatment.Medicare is public trust and spending money legitimately and wisely is resposibility of medicare personnel which is entirely independent decision making board.3.This is really amazing humane zesture.If facilities are over-loaded in Canada and treatment such as radiation is urgent then medicare itself sends patient to nearby USA facility who has agrred to do so.Example.People from Montreal going to Plattsburg N.Y.In this case medicare not only pays medical expenses but also transport, first class Hotel accomodation, food and little spending money.Even for non medicare patients who are out of country fees are set and posted in Emergency Room at Doctor's office.Even in emergency room as soon as you go you are assesed by a qualified nurse if you need an immediate assistance and taken immediately.As I mentioned before, waiting has absolutely nothing to do with medicare.Canada is a small country for population and money revenue yet very very vast country for sqare miles.This put enormous burden on all resources.Yet surprisingly enough it is so well managed when it comes to providing medical care.

Here are the facts.There are two kind of good.Public and Private good.Michael Moore stands for public and Dr.Gupta for private good.Entire future of medicine is at stake after public interest in distribution of Health Care which is energized by Michael's film.He is always cotrovercial and rightfully so.He fails to please whom is supposed to please such as corporate America and their allies and in this case HMO.American Medical Assoiciation, Doctors and ofcourse politicians who are lobbied and effectively controlled by these parties.They have means to do so.Money and politics.In any just society public good always takes precedence over private good.Sure in the process some people and their interests would suffer.These parties main concern is public awakening which Michael is criminally creating.Imagine loosing their empire of dominating, manipulating and abusing vulnerable people.Health of the nation is neither private or personal forum,it is public forum and people have every single right of their saying.I have visited Canada several times and I have friends and relatives in Canada.Waiting has nothing to do with Medicare.Canada has grown in population and demads have far exceeded supply from doctors to hospital beds.It would not have been any different even with private care.My cousin is a doctor there and say not one I mean not one person has ever died by waiting.Every person who needs immediate care have always been given.If people are coming to USA they have different reasons much in the same way so many people from USA are treated in India.It is better to wait and receive treatment than not to receive any or loose everything including home to pay greedy, self centered doctors here.Atleast there they do not limit number of visits to doctors or tell you where to go or not to go or tell you how many deliveries they would pay.One little boy I know in Canada was borne with sickness and required several hospitalizations and surgeries and it is estimated medicare paid almost a million dollars to give him a life.He is healthy, handsome guy now.One wonders where on this earth his parents would have got money to see him alive.God bless Canada, their doctors who are kind, tolerent happy with less but enriching their lives with wonderful sence of responsibilites as compared to our greedy, selfish, ignorant wealthy aristocrates.Wake up America and dawn is not far.Days of darkness are over.

I don't mind wait times. I think the true question when comparing Canada, France and Cuba is that no one is going to DENY treatment to someone for health care. I like the one payer system (government pays with my tax dollars). I have to pay one way or another and I won't lose my house if I have a catastrophic illness if I'm covered by the government.

I've been in a hospital in London and couldn't believe how durty it is. We were stuck in a room waiting for a doctor before we finally took our chart and left. Look how messed up our public schools are. Health care will be the same or worse if the government runs it. In Cleveland there's a hospital who's patients are almost all Canadian who come here because they have to wait sometimes years to get treated.

Michael Moore is a self-important boor. He thinks that he is always right and that others cannot disagree with him without being bought out by big business. I have never watched a single one of his movies filled with half-truths and outright lies. He is a far left liberal who will never agree with anyone who is moderate or right wing. If he hates America so much and our healthcare system, then why doesn't he go live in Cuba. And if he really wants to help our healthcare system, why doesn't he run for office and change it. Or better yet, since he believes in socialism and socialized medicine, donate all his money to help the 45 million who don't have healthcare. There are real stories out there that have far more truth in them than a Michael Moore film.

Michael Moore is truly an anti-fact-fudger.

I love how at the end the two anchors shown immediately after the segment, show compassion towards Wolf Blitzer for being "tongue lashed" by Moore (when in fact Moore was attacking the mainstream media for airing the fluff we call news), rather than agreeing they should have more integrity as a "journalist" or "news anchor". Seriously, I have grown so tired of this country, if I didn't feel I have as much a claim to it as some rich American, I would have left a long time ago. Hopefully people stop being ignorant and complacent and make a change happen.
