Robb, please tell me you understand the fact that matter is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes into different types of matter with energy expendenture or energy release or both. With that said, trees have been around long before we have. Full blown logging and deforestation only occured within the last 400 years which by this reports standards would indicate the world was hotter in 1304 than it is now which isn't the case.

Now introduce the fact that you're taking material (coal & oil) from the inner crust of the earth that has been locked way from the weather cycle for millions of years, and re-introducing it into the weather & atmosphere by extracting energy from the matter and changing the rest of the matter's structure (you do remember my first sentence in this comment right?). You don't even have to think of it as cars and factories and etc. etc. All you have to think of it as is material taking from the inner earth and put into the atmosphere. Billions of barrels of oil are produced A DAY. We've been doing this for around a century. What makes you think adding this material into the atmosphere and the earth's NATURAL cycle won't affect us? You guys are unbelievable. It is a fact that trees give off more CO2 than they absorb as they die off. So, yes, people, if a forest has less trees, it gives of less CO2 and no forest gives off no CO2. Back in the 1600's all the way until around 100 years ago almost all trees were cut down and it was a lot colder. Today, there are more trees than ever and guess what, more CO2 and methane are produced by them.

The answer isn't to attack Bush, or Cheney or Fox news, it is to manage the forests so they are healthy.

Why don't you Bush haters actually look up forest management? You can selectively thin forests so they have more light and air and have less dead branches and trees. Old growth forests are the problem here people.

This planet has been around for billions of years and I am sure through many climate changes that have been a lot worse than what is happening now. I don't believe that man can do enough damage to destroy it in a little over one hundred years of the idustrial and technology boom. Where was man when all the dinosaurs died off in the polar ice caps. Where was man when the earth was hit by meteorites and asteroides that covered the earth in dust storms, this is nature happening maybe!!! with some help from man. That is obviously hypocritical, but what really pisses me off is that the EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED 3 MILLION YEARS AGO. It's natural. Fox is wrong about the trees, but jeez, It was the commentators that said the arguable things, not the hosts. So, therefore, FN is innocent on that 'indictment'.

Ok let's use some simple logic here in this argument

FOX claims that trees are potentially hindering attempts to stop or slow down global warming because they produce methane gas. If we assume that this single study is in fact true, we have to look at where the trees are getting the carbon necessary to produce methane gas. The carbon that the trees absorb would come from the carbon dioxide that is a by product of different reactions, such as combustion reactions and through the gas exchange in the human respiratory system.

That means that in order to cut down on greenhouse gases, we should not have to plant more trees, but rather we have to minimize the emission of global gases into the atmosphere, and because the absorbtion of CO2 by trees provides the trees with carbon that enables them to produce CH4, we have to cut down on the production of CO2 which will lessen the production of methane.

Besides which FOX was pretty damn vague on how the trees "produced" methane ... through Methanogenesis, one of the last steps of decomposition of biodegradable materials methane is formed ... so you could technically say that anything living produces methane once it dies and starts to decompose.
How would FOX think to solve that problem? .... ahhh wait wait, now if FOX were to come up with the brilliant idea of burning every damn thing that decomposes then we would only be putting CO2 into the atmosphere (It truely wouldn't surprise me to hear something like that from FOX)

The problem stands as such .... the more CO2 that is given off leads to the production of more methane, and because we need trees and other vegetation to undergo photosynthesis and eventually give off Oxygen, I think it would be a rather bad idea to cut down trees to stop the production of methane, and sacrifice the abundance of Oxygen (unless it happen in a secluded that was densly populated with right winged christian conservatives).

To wrap this all up we can't cut down trees to "stop global warming" because it would limit our supply of Oxygen, instead we need to limit the amount of CO2 emissions in order to cut down on the production of methane (assuming that the research is accurate)

So in the mean time go fuck yourself FOX News and stop feeding the general public complete bullshit (you are lowering the IQ of our country to that of President Bush).

Well the Artic and Antartic also act as air conditioners...cooling the air and seas ...again pointing to the interconnectedness of the entire planet. So, Grayson....I think you can see that this is not a liberal or conservative issue. This is well beyond even just a human issue. All of the life we see on this planet is here because of the delicate balance of the gases of the atmospheres (air and sea). We mess around with this and we are asking for a rude awakening. Furthermore, for Fox to treat this very important issue like some kind of circus is shameful.
