Salee arrives safely in Amman

Salee and her father arrived in Amman on May 24. Maki Al Nazzal, regional coordinator of No More Victims, was there to greet them. Maki managed a medical clinic in Fallujah during the April 2004 Siege, and has worked to assist and protect the civilian population of his city ever since.

I arrived in Amman a little over a week ago, and preparations are underway for Salee’s journey to Greenville, South Carolina. You can follow Salee’s progress by watching the video updates that we’ll be posting here in coming weeks.  You'll see interviews with Salee, her father, and community organizers in Amman, Greenville, and Fallujah.  You’ll also learn more about the hardships Iraqi families face every day.

In this video Maki will introduce you to Salee and her father. Salee will tell you about how she was injured as she played outside her family's home. How a missile fired by a jet landed near them, taking her legs and killing her brother and another child.

Salee and her father would like to express their gratitude to everyone who donated during the Mother’s Day for Peace campaign.  Thanks to all of you, Salee will at last get the care she needs.

All I can say, with tears flushing out of my eyes, is: Thank you Greenville for the wondrful reception to our beautiful princess. May God bring peace to my country and the world with your prayers and hard work for making our world better. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I was just listening to Ann Coulter tell Chris Matthews on "Hardball" that to win in Iraq we must stop worrying about how many civilian casualties we inflict, that to beat the terrorists we must keeping killing until they have no more will to fight. Better for their civilians to die than for our civilians to die, she said.

i agre with all of the other comments.how ashamed i am of my country.who would have believed that i,we would, without concern and interest commit such acts of inhumanity.

What a beautiful and optimistic little girl. Like Peter,Paul and others, I am horrified by the atrocities committed in our name, truly acts of terrorism. I'm in England right now on a brief vacation, and Americans would be well-advised to hear what the world thinks of us; we are very alone in our views. This donation to Salee was a wonderful Mother's Day present from my husband; in fact, we live in SC, some 20 miles from Greenville. My heart goes out to Salee and her family.

May you soon be running with the wind, little Salee.

It is overwhelming to consider how many more Salees there are because of our country's misguided invasion of Iraq.
For all the children who have suffered, and are suffering, may the day come soon when there is peace in their land.

My Mother was elated to receive this gift to Salee, in her name for Mother's Day. I had already sent Mom a gift, but she knew this one was more important.
I am so happy that Salee and her father will be in good hands with the doctors in South Carolina (my Mom lives in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina).
My prayers are with them and all the Iraqi people, who have suffered for no reason, but greed.

My wonderful daughter Sandy couldn't have given me a more meaningful gift than her donation to help Salee. She is truly a beautiful girl with a winning smile. We are cheering for you all of the way, Princess. Thank you for the video and for any updates on her progress. She certainly deserves the best and some joy in her life. I have wondered what Sallee, the Iraqi girl whose injuries we Americans are all responsible for, looked like. Thenk you for sending this update, and and thank you also for this opportunity to help such a beautiful "princess" as Sallee recover.
  • Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to contribute to Salee's care and recovery. I don't feel quite so helpless anymore. Bless you all.
  • It will take more than a few dollars to make right what happened to this child. I felt obliged to donate money to help pay for for her surgery because I am deeply ashamed of the role my country has played in the deaths and mutilation of countless children in numberless lands.

As an American I am diminished by every atrocity committed in my name.

Good luck to you, little one.

What a beautiful little girl! She is truly a princess. Thank you for sending this wonderful and heart-warming video message from Salee and her father. It makes me so happy to be able to help her heal and put her life back together. It is so good to be able to give something back to the Iraqi people who are suffering so much in this war. Please send us more updates as her treatment and rehabilitation continues. I only hope that when she returns, that there will be real security, and if not peace, at a safe home for Salee. My mother said that this was the best gift that I could have given her for Mother's Day. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. Keep up the great work!
