John McCain is Dr. Strangelove

Thanks to the casting sensibility of Arianna Huffington, we learned that John McCain has been channeling Dr. Strangelove!  Duly inspired, Phillip and our Issues 2008 team jumped into action, and 24 hours later, here's the video!

Pass it far and wide and pitch us your casting ideas for John McCain in the comments.

No surprise Mccain brings up the Georgia / Russia conflict but forgot that Georgia was killing orthodox christians in the newly formed democracy of Ossetia before Russia stepped in .

He is a Strange one indeed
  • Robert Kunferman
    To XTV:

Yup, it must be those lousey Chinese folks that is doing it to us. If they did not buy our debt who would? They also have Most Favored Nation status, and continue to get goods cheaper here than we could ever do it even if labor was free here.

In almost every English speaking country, they offer other countries special rates for import, and even subsidies for imports just as long as the food is "processed" by labor, "assembled" by labor, or even just "touched" in some way by labor. This is done to undermine and cheapen labor in countries like Canada, Australia, and the United States.

Funny how some clowns can never figure this out.

Ask the Canadians on here why it is cheaper to ship agricultural goods to the USA, have them processed or handled there, then ship them back to Canada. They will not know the answer either, but they will at least know that this is happening. That means that they are at least marginally smarter than most Americans.
  • Don Dobesh
Why are those in America bold enough to question the way our leaders are ruining this great country accused of hating the USA? That is from the Karl Rove, Dick Cheney playbook.
Whe you pick a scab some pus will ooze out. That is what people like you and Michael accomplish. You expose the infection that is affecting the health of this nation!
  • Mike Kerr
Every single one of you are missing the entire point.

Our leaders are all just puppets. There are "handlers" behind the scenes making all the calls and making all the moves.

Obama, McCain.... It doesn't matter. We are screwed either way. RON PAUL is the only one who understood this and it was the point he was trying to make all along. I tried to get friends to come with me to see Dr. Paul speak and heard things like "Oh he's a Republican, I'm a Democrat I'm not going to see him speak." OR from the those that think they are conservative- "Ron Paul is talking about disassembling the IRS? What a screwball!" Yeah real screwball as the "Unconstitutional" FED makes decisions about our mortgages and credit card rates, burdening us with junk loans, and now leaving us with a $700 billion mess to clean up. Now a vote to allow our government take on this $700b in debt and bail out these corporations is on the hill. absolutely criminal what is going on. We are all absolutely screwed. Better start picking up some Spanish classes and get ready to move to South America because the end of times is coming fast.

Actually Ron Paul is the ONLY one who could have saved our country from the turmoil, horror, regret, and debt that we are about to incur. So HIGH FIVE idiots. You wanted it, here it comes... McCain/Obama doesn't really matter they are just pawns. You people need to wake the F up!!!!!!

AMERICA, ELECT JOHN MCCAIN SO WE CAN CELEBRATE YOUR TOTAL DOWNFALL. FOUR MORE YEARS OF BUSH AND YOU WILL BE AN IRRELEVANT, MEANINGLESS, POOR COUNTRY.

THAT'S GOOD FOR THE REST OF US.
  • me
McCain is worse than the general. He was at least making his decisions on a cold, calculating, amoral game-theoretic basis. McCain's decisions are based on what'll get him the most adulation and the greatest sensation of power. Exclusively amoral. He has no interest in acting responsibly (Palin) or even consistently (Falwell).

Concern trolls, and those who say "oh, I'm terribly offended by this inaccurate portrayal": this is a flattering comparison.
  • djer
Why vote for anyone other than McCain when he's going to win anyways?! He is just another dejavu like Bush who had a couple good friends in power (in bush's case family) Who WILL cheat them in one way or another to be president. This is not conspiracy, you "WILL" see. And there's nothing "YOU" can do! McCain will get the same treatment as Bush did once he becomes president. Start stocking up the eggs!
  • Matt Judkin
    Obama will lose!!!

    He is a liberals liberal!!

Obama has received "100" ratings from Americans for Democratic Action, Planned Parenthood, the AFL-CIO, the American Federation of Government Workers, Citizens for Tax Justice (i.e., for raising taxes on the "rich"), Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, the National Education Association, and the National Organization for Women. He has received "F" grades from the National Taxpayers Union, the National Rifle Association, and U.S. English, a 13 rating from Citizens Against Government Waste, 7 ratings from the Club for Growth, the American Conservative Union, and the Eagle Forum, and zero ratings from the Family Research Council, the National Right to Life Committee, and Americans for Tax Reform.

When will the Democrats wake up and stop sending socialist liberals to their execution, like Obama!! not to mention Gore, Kerry, McGovern, Dukakis, etc, etc..

Clinton made it because of Perot.

McCain will be the President in the end.

9/11 wasn't planned in a cave...The answer LIES in the BUSHES.
  • Betty J. Walton
Has everybody forgotten that Bush added more arsenic to our water? Well, that stuff has eaten away so many brains that we all are somewhat stuck on stupid. The real facts are that Bush and Company are doing everything they can to steal this election for McBush so he can "forgive" the crimes committed by these crooks. Also so McBush can appoint more crooked supreme court cohorts to the stacked deck. This is THE game plan and it's working because of the arsenic!
  • dan
I have a script idea, Take the Regan "Morning in america ad" about norman rockwell america, and updated to what is going on now. And instead of making it anti mcCain, make it anti republican - bush and pro change. And do it point for point with the same kind of deep voiced announcer,
    More people loosing there homes
More people unable to afford health care
    More people loosing there jobs
    More people unable afford College
More kids dieing in poorly thought out and planned foreign wars.
More Wealthy people not paying their fair share by an overly complex tax system.
More Lobbyists causing the government to advance the private interest over the needs of the citizens of the United States.
More Private interests protecting their turf at the expense of forward thinking development in transportation, and energy leaving us dependant on foreign Oil and crumbling infrastructure.
    This is the Republican America.

Vote for a change of direction.
  • Matt Judkin
One more time for Skydoc - The top 2% of the population pays 70% of all tax revenue. The top 10% pay 80%!! That is fair!!??? Bush signed the Budget and submits changes that HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY CONGRESS!! Congress spends the countries money dumb ass!! Have you ever heard of the Congressional BUDGET committee? Finance Committee? Appropriations committee? Bush is a dick and signed the spending bills!! But OBAMA the most liberal of all US senators is going o spend less!!?? He will be more financially responsible them BUSH??? pleeezzzz
By the way your beloved Democrats were right in there spending and spending and spending trillions of dollars for 40 straight years!!! Losing control of congress in 1994. Democrats voted to fund the war and all the trillions of dollars of spending they Appropriated!! They are just as guilty!!!!!!!! Add up all of Obama's promises!! More government and more DEFICET spending of trillions!!

    For real change...vote Bob Barr!!!!
  • Stefan
We have a triple threat ticket this year. Obama who none of his supporters, when you get past the rhetoric actually know nothing about him personally or how he actually plans to get anything done for Americans. Clinton, the ruthless who will say anything to get in. And FrankenCain the creepy whose voting record would make any Bush proud. Read this article and you will see what I mean.

    http://warofillusions.wordpress.com/2008/04/18/...
  • Skydoc
And this one is to Matt. Obama might be about bigger government or more deficits (I doubt it)mainly because we all except the upper 1/10th of a percentile of rich Americans have been having our taxes increase because of the Bush tax break already..whew!!!! next I don't know how any one could rack up a bigger deficit than Bush...3 trillion dollars worth coming down the turnpike towards our children. You think McCain who has to pander to get elected will do anything but allow himself to be used like a tampon...you gotta be joking....get real...get a clue....vote Obama
  • Skydoc
Max will probably not see this but I gotta say it. John McCain did lead men in combat. It was leadership that kept some men alive. That said though...He's too old and too old school to be president. He will just be another puppet of the multi-national multi-millionaire/billionaires to manipulate in the name of God and Country. This government has lost sight that it was based off of people not business. So Barack if you're listening please get business back in the cage our forefathers had them in to begin with.
  • g
The true "manchurian candidate" What did the North Vietnamese do to McCain in all those years in prison?
Will his first act be to add Vietnam to the list of Terrorist countries?
    Watch out!
  • JOHN MCCAIN
    ONE WORD FOR MCCAIN "IGNORANT"
  • Max
What makes JOhn McCAin so capable..?
That he was a POW, that he crashed three planes in the Navy ? Did he lead men r make any significant military decisions ? Has he acknowledgfed his matke in selling influence in the S & L Scandal, has he acknowledged he has consistently opposed civil rights legislation and has he been consitent in his political stands ?

Being greatis not a matter of longevity....McCains
war heroism doesnt trump John Kerry's but the Democrats arent swiftboating him...he waffles on issues but it isnt a big deal to the press.

McCAin was abused and lied about by Bush in his lat run for the Republican nomination, then he became allies with this lowlife man who has no integrity...Now it is time to see him for who he is...that he isnt a man to lead , never has been, never will be....maybe a nice guy but not presidnential material.
  • Matt Judkin
John is the one will do the right thing and will be the least in the pockets of the special interest… that I 100% McCain!! He is a straight talker! War hero! He is a fiscal hawk!! He hates earmarks! He fights the pharmaceutical companies; he stood by Iraq when it was unpopular. He is kind of cranky and no push over. I like that!! Obama is a talker boy. But, no real substance, just blah blah blah. The few things he has said equal a BIGGER government and more deficit spending!!
  • Robert Kunferman
Reply to DJK: Our constitution has been disposed of, and the next time they create a fake terrorist attack and blame it on a raghead or homegrown, we will be nothing more than a labor camp for the British. The only people who have rights here are henchmen(police), judges(ex-lawyers who have risen to a new level of dishonesty), and prosecuting attorneys(the third rung in your rights being directly violated).

The politicians are just bought and paid for traitors, that have reached the pinnacle of stupidity and greed to benefit themselves and thei dullard offspring.

So, I agree with you, and then some. Grab your guns, and hold on tight, unless you really want to work for peanuts while these lousey fucks sell you out to foreign government and their business interests.
  • Matt Judkin
John McCain is a great man!! Both progressives and Conservatives are in agreement he has integrity and honor. So to read the bashing is gross!!
The war may have been wrong blah blah blah.... yes we ALL want it to end. But it is DONE, right or wrong we are there, and McCain is right we cannot cut and run.
I love it the ultra Left and the ultra right hate McCain. Now for certain I know he is the man for the job.
John McCain scares the Democrats and Republicans!
The politicians in Washington both Democrat and Republican are scared to death of John because they know he will not be a big spender and that all their earmarks and special interest money will be gone!!
    McCain 2008!
  • DjK
At this point, I'd vote for DEM Dahlia. Our administration is criminal and thinks the Constitution is disposable.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Reply to John Hazlett:
The Democrats wallets are not any thinner in my state of wisconsin. No way. Actually, we have given the richest top one percent a tax break even more generous than Shrub did. Yup, it was the Democrat governor who is speaking for Barrack right now in North Carolina, even though just a few days ago I heard Mutual of OBama tell all of us he was going to roll back that Federal tax break for the rich. I am not a conservative, and plan to vote for Nader.

You see, every time you dirty Dems open your mouths, your greedy asses lie. You do it to the point that when you contradict yourselves, like I so effortlessly caught happening here and North Carolina, you lie some more.

What's it going to be? Another tax break for the rich or a meaningless rollback(not elimination) of the tax breaks Shrub gave to the rich. I don't much care either way, but your incessant lieing is the sign of a pitiful lot of people who are so unchallenged by the public that they cannot tell the difference between right and wrong, nor can they tell the truth.

Read "The Politics of Heroin" by McCoy and "The Creature from Jeckyl Island" by Griffin. Both books tell the entire truthful history of the corruption created and maintained over the past 100 years before Shrub took office. Somehow you clowns never find time to read facts either.
The other thing I noticed about Dems is that if it affects their wallets in any way, they also cannot see how they are causing harm to relatively innocent people.

It is as if, as long as you vote democrat, your harm and mistakes are caused by the repubelichens.

I am neither, so you go right ahead and vote for Mutual of Obama, and remember you really thought we would find WMD's in Iraq, and you thought a terrorist was going to get you like you thought the boogey man was until you were seventeen.

I didn't believe any of that, told people that, which got me reported to homerland security about a dozen times by stupid democrats. I also don't need police for anything, judges for anything, and surely don't need the basement saver firemen for anything. You do need all of these people because you are too spineless to take care of yourself, and every time the TV yells BOO!, you jump and ask for more of your rights to be taken away.
Like most Democrats, this makes you an entire philosophical and ideological hipocrit.

I will vote for change, so I will vote for Nader or pencil myself in. I have no more time in my life for stupid, greedy, thieves from either party.
  • john hazlett
    Reply to Robert Kunferman

Oh Robert, just how long will the Republican Neo-Cons continue to blame everything wrong in this country on Clinton and the Dems? Your boy has had 8 LONG years in office, and we're in worse financial shape than we ever were under Clinton.

Your gang loves to accuse people who vote against your candidates of "voting their wallets", even though our wallets are all much thinner since we allowed the Country to be run by greedy oil barons and war profiteers.

It's a very popular ploy for the Neo-Cons to accuse others of not caring, but just exactly who benefits from our current War on Terror? That's right, they are almost ALL Republican owned defense contractors, etc.

I don't like Obama either, and I'll be the first to admit it. However, I base my assessment on personal beliefs and not what my Party tells me to think. You drank the cool-aid and now you condemn all those who can see through the charade.

The bottom line is that EVERYONE votes their wallet. You, me and the entire rest of the Country - whether they know it or not. You're just like a little kid who's been caught doing something wrong, so he accusses all those around him of doing the same thing.

I think pretty much anybody who gets into the Whitehouse next will do a better job for this country than the admitted drug addicted, alchoholic Military deserter from Big Oil (pronounced Saudi) puppet we've suffered for the last 8 years! I think the rest of the country agrees with me too, or your boy wouldn't have the lowest Presidential Approval Rating in history. IN HISTORY!

    'nuff said.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Reply to Paul McDermot:

Well Paul, if you know Mutual of O'Bama's real life story, you would realize that his mother married a well to do aristocrat from Indonesia. I have been to Jakarta and Jojacarta, and I have seen the repression first hand that the aristocrats hand down to the peasants.

If I had heard from Barrack that he even recognized this repression(extremely vicious to say the least), and admitted that this repression paid for his Harvard education, then I would give him a little bit of credibility.

O'Bamma is going to be our next president, and likely someone within our or Britain's government will have him assassinated so they cold re-crate racial division in the USA, and in turn, create more repressive laws to take the last bit of our constitutional rights away.

The most pitiful part of all of this is that the people voting fpor him will be doing it mostly because they are voting their pocketbooks, and don't know right from wrong themselves.

There is no shortage of failing, expensive, never intended to be successful government policies in this country, that cause far more problems than they could ever solve. Sort of works out pefectly for government people who do very little useful, are now buying real estate that working people cannot afford any longer, and they have full medical and pension bnefits, while even employers cannot afford to waste their money on for their idiot employees.

We already have too many problems in this country to be playing games with morons that only want to vote their pocketbooks, and clowns that only care about being elected.

Here is how it will go: Mutual of O'Bama gets elected, does nothing for the first year while the government run media makes him a darling, then the next year he claims the republicans are at fault for him doing nothing, then the third year we hear the same BS, then he has to spend the last year running for re-election claiming his policies could not have been accomplished in four years.

The worst part of all of this, is that nothing good will come of any of it.

The dems can only see money, and have not solved one social problem in this country.

The next worse thing about this is that he is a lame duck the day he walks in, similar to Clinton. His past drug use, sexual affairs, family background will all come out just before his election to a second term or just afterwards, and this will become the lame duck second termer from day one, just like Clinton was.

The British who run our media and the people who run our economy love to do business this way, and the public is too stupid to look past the distractions and recognize these repeating patterns.

You are just too greedy and lazy to even admit or see it no matter how many times you se it, and no matter how many times it is repeated because you don't care about htis country in the least bit.

    You care about your pocketbook.
  • Paul McDermott
That's all we need, McStrangelove for president! An imperial presidency on steroids! Add to that old age and a bunch of neocon advisers. How about dementia? Remember how conveniently Reagan forgot facts? McCannon is worse! Four more years of war and an economy in the tank. Bye, bye, America.
  • Matt Judkin
Give them hell John!! The debt building, earmark cowards are scared to death of Mr. McCain. Look out special interest! I love seeing all the Hollywood elite, only able to donate $2300 each, instead of the $100,000's!! The lobbyist is Washington know that John is going to be hard to push over on spending, why do you think the Washington establishment both Democrat and Republican alike don't like John McCain. It is all about Money!! God Bless John McCain.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Hey Rich:
If this is "such grave Proportions", then why are you letting the Demopubelichens off so easy on the decision to "take us to war"?

Objective? Nope. Voting their pocketbooks? Yes.
    So full of shit: Priceless.
  • Richard Torres
WOW! What a resemblance! Life imitates art! Amazing... why would anybody ever vote for this mistake of such grave proportions.
  • Matt Judkin
D - Anne Coulter is a nut job!! I agree she is beyond bias. Bill O I disagree.. he tries to be fair. I agree with wanting peace and how can anyone be"for" war. I am not for war and death. But it does happen right or wrong it does happen. I think if it does happen McCain out of all is the best to lead a war. Taking mcCain as literal about 100 years of war and some of these hack job videos are shameful!! You can take anyone Obama, Hillary, McCain and even Ron Paul and make video just like this website and make the guy look crazy... I does piss me off when people degrade mcCain on being a hero and a great servant to our country... I feel the same when people degraded John Kerry about his service and being a hero... becuase he was!!
  • D
Hey Matt - talk about the lef. If the likes of Ann Coulter and Bill O are an indication of the right ask me why I'm on the left. You know, war mongers breed war, they look for war. There is nothing wrong with wanting peace and not war. Hope your all signed up and ready to fight. "Its the job of the thinking people not to be on the side of the executioners" So stop letting the fear mongoring media feed your brain and use it!
  • Matt Judkin
McCain would no doubt clearly be the best to lead our military!! He is a major war hero and has made great sacrifices for his country!! Shame on anyone for degrading John McCain for being a war hero, Pathetic liberal wackos!!! McCain 2008!!!!
  • cafemocha
McCain's war quatrain: "There's going to be other wars, I'm sorry to tell you this, there's going to be other wars". Predicting and promising war, he believes he's Nostradamus and Napoleon. Still fighting his last war. For McCon, wars never end... And you super-duper self-styled patriots, please, spare us all the "war hero" tirades: Many other Americans paid far greater than McCon, and many others have done much more good for America than McCon has done or could possibly do. The last thing America needs is McCon as Nostradamus and Napoleon ruining our country.
  • Robert Kunferman
I have never seen Doctor Strangelove, but I did see Doctor Turnencoff, so I have felt the strange love before. Now I quit believing in hole-istic medicine and I seek doctors with small hands, but not both of them on my shoulders at the same time, during my rectal exam.
  • Susan Norman
What a great take off from Dr. "Strangelove". Wasn't George C. Scott the greatest in this? Who would know that it would ring eternal?

More Wars, Less Jobs. Big deal Sen. McCain was a P.O.W. Big deal he enlisted at 17. Ask yourself this has this man EVER had a real job? He has spent his life in service to his country? More like he has spent his life sucking the government tit. Say goodnight John boy.
  • Bob Williamson
Poor Matt. I agree the McCain was a war hero 40-50 years ago. But he got over that and into bed with the lobbying interests that He claims have no influence on him. Can you say Keating 5? It's the brainwashed masses like this that will salute as our country self destruct under int own global weight.

If the US should pull out of Iraq, Iraq will be overrun by...Iraqis. Omigod!!!
  • Matt Judkin
John McCain is a hero!! He is not going to tell you what YOU want to hear. Obama will tell you what you want to hear and stroke your head... in the end we cannot leave Iraq... it would be a HUGE mistake. LOL... Reading all the conspiracy theories on this website by all you liberals i.e. - neocon's, Halliburton, new world order, Bush oil, blah, blah, blah... lol No real US citizen takes you wacky fringe groups serious... NO ONE!!! lol No wonder the democrat party struggles, its got wacky lefties in it.. The independents will continue to stay away and Obama will lose.

    Reply to Daniel:

Well, McCained's age and stamina should not be in qustion, anyway. Otherwise that outdated, and often overused drivel was going to continue forever.

I heard that the NYTimes has doctored footage of McCain on top of the lobbiest, in an oversized sport jacket with rigid shoulders and no pants on.

It was actually a picture of a kite during hurricane Catrina, tethered to a telephone pole, oscillating back and forth. Granted it did take the power out. More power to him if he can do that.

He has a temper, so I think some people better watch out for his whirligig fighting style that he has to use because he can't rotate his shoulders.

I guess Daniel thinks that the Vietnam was the same as the Iraq occupation, and Daniel claims that he has suffered worse than McCained had. In his own mind, devoid of facts, he probably has suffered more psychosis than McCained.

That silly psychology bit is a joke I hope. Anybody who wants to see a psychiatrist, should have their heads examined. Sorry, that was a Floydean slip.

I know Freud, so spare me your intuitive powers. Were you on the ground as a clerk or a cook?

Silly Wabbit! Noe quit acting so silly.

Falling out of the sky in an airplane into enemy hands is more scarey that serving mashed potatoes to the few soldiers who see combat over there. Or, I can name the battles for you to claim you were helping to supply from the clerk's job you did.

  • Greg
    John Wayne as John McCain
  • Howard McFann
McCain scares me. He comes from a military family and believes that might, not diplomacy, will solve the world's problems. He is no Eisenhower, that's for sure.
  • Robert Kunferman
Actually, John Mcained expidited some legislation through that the mollasses league of government weasals in Washinton would have sat on until they were bribed to move on it.

If all it takes in washington to get things done is a hooker lobbiest, then we should have the gangsters that own Las Vegas send us some GS-27 level federal expediters. Also known as expensive hookers.

We would have socialized medicine by morning.

Also, McCained now must use Mitt romney(Rommel to his friends), as his running mate, so he can keep his wife and have another one. According to Mormon scripture, he would be nearly as one with god.

No need to even have O'BamBam run for election then. Otherwise we will wait twelve years to have a worse health care plan inacted that makes the guys that have already gotten and will get these fools elected happy as hell.
  • John Provocative
Vicki Iseman is just a friend of John McCain...a wee-wee friend. This story just confirms what I already thought about McCain, that he's a horny old man. C'mon, don't he look like a horny old man? John( Likes 'Em Tight And Blonde) McCain
  • Richard Kelly
McCain is Dr. Strangelove should be spammed to the entire internet. It says it all.
  • Robert Kunferman
Yup, McCained is pretty tough and he makes me laugh when he dismisses his idiotic competitors and detractors. He has a nice looking wife as well, that appears to be well kept. Irishmen seem to be rugged and tough like that. Just go to Canada and watch them build on tundra that no kraut would break ground on.

He is an American at least.

If he agrees to limit doctor fees, then he may be able to convince me that damages rendered by negligent and incompetent physicians should not be given fair trials. Otherwise, who is going to pay for the guy crippled from a surgeon who is out golfing the next day? Us taxpayers, and I am sick of paying for incompetent pseudo-professionals like the demopubelichens in my state would have me do.

Limit doctors to $25.00 an hour, and then you can lower insurance fees a ton, while still being able to have people harmed by negligence compensated by the person(or insurer) for their losses. Why should I the taxpayer end up paying for a rich, incompetent scoundrel golfing in Arizona? I shouldn't.
  • Matt Judkin
John McCain is tough as nails and will do the right thing. Progressive are in la la land to think that the US should cut and run. Yes the War was a mistake and yes we want out... but it is done, we are there and get over it!! McCain is 100% right in staying the course and finishing the job! Makes me smile when see the lefties and righties all attacking him.... he isn't going to do what you want. Now I know fo certain I am VOTING FOR MCcAIN AFTER READING ALL THESE CONSPIRACY THEORIES AND BASHING. Go John!!

And McCain is just plain out of touch with the prince of peace.. I heard say once by an elder man that if your not at the feet of the prince of peace... then you are out of your mind: I recommend to the common people; History by Howard Zinn and Kenneth C. Davis. {Unabridged VERSIONS ONLY} ALSO IRAQ FOR SALE BY Robert Greenwald ; For starters.
  • JOE
The Iraq invasion is not a war: It is a hateful take over by bush and chaney's company's with the cost of many broken hearted individuals and low income families kids; and to top it off with the people of the united states treasury. Check out the national debt clock and graph the cost to the people... { ALL IN JESUS NAME}.....Yeah right!!!!! Get a clue???? Christ like???? AYE? These guy's are Chicken-poop Chickenhawks: Just check their records.
  • Robert Kunferman
I like McCained. He at least tried to do campaign finance reform, to help get Britain out of our politics, and he was taller at one time until they stretched him sideways. I don't vote within the two party system anyway, but he has more substance than a Kenyan discidant that stole from their own country for the Americans, then sort of became one the easy way. By Selling out your other country to the Americans. Nobody likes a traitor.

McCained is at least an American, not a puppet for foreign business interests.
  • David Sadler
Reedit John McCain is ... Dr. Strangelove

Add clip of McCain singing "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran."
  • BigInJapan
I've been impressed with a lot of the past work of Brave New Films, but I think they really dropped the ball here. Aside from the fact that the clips use the wrong character from the Dr. Strangelove movie, this is just a cheap shot. McCain's far from perfect, but he's certainly no war monger, and he's probably the best hope to clean up Bush's mess. If McCain's party hadn't snowed him eight years ago, I really doubt we'd be in this war right now. This clip is exactly the same sensationalism Brave New Films has criticized Faux News for time and time again, and leaving it up here kinda dings their credibility.
  • Robert Kunferman
Actually, their new drug for ADD is helping those children without full blown autism. It must be nice to be a British company selling stupid Americans a preservative for vaccines(thimerizol) that creates a market for your future drugs that you were developing while the Americans were poisoning their fellow citizens with the thimaerizol.

Obviously, we have no say in or control of our government. The state level is just as corrupt in my state, and the local level would charge you with a crime just to make money on housing and feeding you and your offspring. How can they lose??

If you don't dummy down in this country, they will toss you in jail for telling the truth, or just take it out on your children at school(their preferred method in my state). Nothing scares us peasants more than the govt. trying to harm our children. We all shut -up and let them steal from us, so they don't do worse to us.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Reply to Kanuk25:

    Dumbed-down??????

Yup and wee. How about this one: Eli Lilly makes thimerizol that makes us as dumb as a mad hatter.

The rest of the world quit putting junk like this organic mercury in vaccines decades ago. This mercury containing drug/preservative has never seen or had FDA approval.

We now have one out of one hundred children in this country with autism. This is caused by the thimerizol, and we know it, but the NIH and FDA and CDC are so corrupt that they have been protecting these British companies for decades.

Now they claim that we have to protect them from lawsuits because of homeland security. We have also sealed and destroyed the records that prove we have been harming our own citizens.

We are not as dumb as we act, but our press is controlled by foriegn businesses, as are our politicians. Most greedy simps got these vaccinations for their dullard offspring, because they trusted our press and government.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Now they are making you take the vaccinations as mandatory.

Eli Lilly is also helping solve the problem by a treatment of detoxification that may solve some of the nuerological damage.

Funny how their executives are now in the Homeland security jobs and that they are profiting, with no accountability, in solving a problem they created.

You don't know the half of how corrupt this British colony is. All sell-outs.
  • Rolen Y.
Being a war hero doesn't mean you can't be wrong 40 years later. I doesn't mean that you are the right person for the times. I totally respect what the Senator endured so long ago, but he's dead wrong on the war. One would think that his experience would lead him to another conclusion but his ambition and the debt that he owes to his contributors has turned him into Dr. Strangelove. It isn't the first time that a politician lost their moral compass because of money and coveting an office. Why do you think they call it "blind ambition". The totality of what he's saying makes it clear that you can't believe a single thing he says.
  • barbara bailey
It's hard to understand how anyone can believe this nonsense. McCain is a true life war hero and a great senator. He'll have my vote.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Diddly squat: Yeh right diddly.

Of course McCained is going to be a war hawk. Who do you think is supporting him with the income to proceed with his campaign finance reform that he failed to make work.

If the lying little weasal could not figure out how to do campaign finance reform(even though all other Western nations other than England do not allow money to corrupt the weasals), then let's assume that he likes being bought and sold by foriegn money.

Ask your demopubelichens where they get their money from. They won't answer you. They refuse to disclose it. And it is the same foriegn money piles that McCained draws from. They don't count the votes anyway, nor do they know who is voting in this country, so you have barely scratched the surface as to why we are in Iraq. And have to be there because we are too stupid to run our own government. Too stupid and corrupt to run our own country.
  • Diddley Squat
I'm glad I found this web page. If yo think the war in Iraq is bad, remember that Bush went in there after twelve years of wrecking the economy and infrastructure of the Iraqis. The population of Iraq is relatively small - about 15 million. Iran has four times that number of people, an intact economy with huge revenues and significant military manpower.

McCain the Insane will invade Iran. Make no mistake about it. And it's going to be disastrous to our currently-sagging economy. If it costs $20 billion a month to run Iraq and Afghanistan (not counting the life-long expenses for seriously wounded vets) it's going to cost ten times that much to invade, conquer, and occupy Iran. And the number of additional troops we would need, and the staggering death toll they would face, is almost beyond imagination.

I can't understand why anybody would vote for this guy! Is it because Charles Manson isn't runnning?
  • forrest lincoln
The problem I have with John McCain is he seems to be as liberal as Hillary Mike Huckabee is the only true conservitive in the race, maybee Ron Paul, Romney I feel has put on a conservitive suit given his past record.
  • jeff davies
I recently heard that McCain may have Alzheimer's. Anyone else have further info on this extremely relevant allegation?

Boy that McCained is sure making a stir with you demopubelichens. Actually, what is the difference?

The answer to 1984 is 1776. OUr country is heading quickly towards proto0-fascist police state. Our guns will be confiscated and we will be under 24/7 surveillance, and so much more. If we want to stop this, we need to wake up our fellow man to the tragic infiltration of our government by these elitist corporatist. To send a message that I'm ready for REAL change is this country, I'm voting for Ron Paul. He understands the TRUE danger our country is in. As a Congressman, he has ALWAYS voted in favor of the Constitution, sometimes as the lone underdog voter. They call him "Dr. No". He was an Air Forcle flight surgeon and obgyn after the military. This man knows what's up. He wants to ABOLISH THE IRS (no federal income tax, and he has a brilliant transition program for that), end ALL unnecessary foreign occupations adn put our troops on the border where we are WIDE OPEN to terrorist and illegals who are throwing off the balance of our country. PLEASE, FOR OUR FUTURE, RESEARCH RON PAUL, AND IF YOU AGREE WITH HIM THAT WE NEED TO RETURN TO THE IDEALS OF COMMON SENSE, TRUTH, LIBERTY, PEACE AND PROGRESS THAT ARE INSTATED IN OUR CONSTITUTION, THEN JOIN THE r3VOLUTION!

Mr. McCain is a creation of the media. They are counting on the fact that we will fail to research this man. We have been fighting this man's amnesty bills all summer in Texas and I have researched him. His record slaps most republicans in the face. He has made many poor choices in his life. His wife was caught stealing drugs from her own charity. He graduated at the very bottom of his class at Annapolis, whereas Mitt Romney graduated at the top of his Harvard class. Research their politics and their personal lives to determine what kind of people they really are. The media is failing to tell you these things. But don't worry, if Mr. McCain is nominated the Dems will tell us all about the things we forgot to research!
  • WomanforPeaceSan8ty
I believe that what we are seeing here is a man with long standing untreated PTSD. It has obviously caused some major memory loss and severe delusionary thought patterns. The idea that this unfortunate man could possibly think that he could run the country is very, very sad, and very, very scary. His warrior reputation and his prisoner of war experience is what identifies him and has brought him recognition. He is obviously determined to hold onto h
this now damaged personality. It is really quite sad. This is what we are creating by choosing war. I cannot imagine how many men will be coming home from Iraq this messed up!
  • lawn mower bob
According to a very credible Viet he had an affair with a sister of a high place north viet official Tan Thanh a special nurse. It is said McCain fathered two sons with her. One of them is going to the a University of Colorado. have not been able to get their names as of now?????

We have had enough of the mad men running this once great country into the dirt for no other reason than to make money and also to do Israels bidding. Iran will be next if McCain gets in.But so what's a few thousand more lives? If we would quit allowing Israel leading us around by the nose, we wouldn't be in the mess were in currently. For the last 24 years the Bushes and Clinton's have had control of the peoples house.
Oh well, looks like the only way that the American people are going to learn is by hard knocks, and rest assured, the knocks are coming, and were not going to like it a little bit.The only way anyone can become a president of this country is to have enough money and the willingness to sell your soul to the devil.Speaking of the devil, this is his system, is it any wonder then why it's such a mess?
  • Hub Galliker
When McCane says the American people don't dislike rich people, they want to be rich people themselves...., I KNOW the lad is somewhere else in the universe, and yes, maybe he DOES have some kind of microchip in his neck..... or cheek.

Whatever was once in John McCain is long-gone now, along with his soldier's honor.

To "I've got a bad feeling..."
what does Bill Clinton's affairs have to do with Hillary running for president?, and no, he has not had the most affairs with other women in the history of the world, his were just the most publicized. For example, John F. Kennedy was right up there with Bill if you're counting and I figure at least they stuck with women and avoided other men and boys like some politicians we know !!
  • jpj
Well, Dr. Strangelove he may be, but I'm more concerned about the lump in his left jowl. A few years ago he had a lump removed from this area. Could this be a re-growth?

Could this make a new video?

Dr. Strangelove was absolutely one of the best movies ever. Its political message is as timeless as Eisenhowers's Farewell Speech telling us about the Military-Industrial complex.

Somehow we should get young people to watch Dr. Strangelove, the movie. We might have to first explain a few things to them.

But the message is clear: Build it and they will come; Build and support a $600,000,000,000 defense department and it WILL BE USED.
  • John is a Bush boy, inside the circle of death.

He needs to be pushed out of the whitehouse along with the other war mongers!

No weapons of mass destruction found, but it still is a good idea to stay in Iraq. Hundreds of billions of dollars were spent and being spend at record rates, where will this money come from? Bush can spend billions of dollars destroying two countries, three if you count america, but he will not make sure our children and citizens have health care, jobs and educations. He says it is too expensive. The republican party does not and never cared about the citizens of America, the Consitution or civil rights. Now we have McLain just itching to bomb iraq.
  • I've got a bad feeling about t
America, has a choice between a women who's husband has had more affairs with other women than any politician in the history of the world, and a mental retard who can't wait to kill-off the the world for allowing him to be tortured (McCain is your typical spoiled brat American shithead, which is why him and Bush are so perfect for the job). It seems after Bush, your choices are only getting worse, but Ron Paul is God's way of giving America one last chance. One lst shot at redemption. Most of America gave up on itself, which is why God might as well give have given up on you anyway.

Democracy is a noble experiment. For 231 years many have worked to make it work. I believe this time we have a chance to make it work. A government controlled by corporations is not a democracy.
  • Joe T.
No way should he ever be given the opportunity to carry out these visions of the future, but i hand him one credit: he's being up-front about it. i'm still not convinced that our Democrats will do ANYthing to end the crap in Iraq, and based on current futile "stimulus" nonsense, they're equally misguided on how to get the economy back on track.
  • Jim Farley
When is enough enough? Why are we at war with IraQ? How many more times does Exxon get to post record profit margins in the Billion dollar range for a single quarter? How many more times do our sones and daughters have to be shipped home in pieces? Haven't we had enough of the same old crap? Where is the outrage? Where are the people of my generation who were going to end war? What in the world happened to you, that you would even consider this clown as a leader? America...You used to stand for something! You used to be the beacon of hope for the world. I feel so very afraid of what we have become. George Harrison said it best, "Watch out now, Take care, Beware of greedy leaders...They'll take you where you should not go while weeping Atlas cedars, they just want to grow...Beware of Darkness"!

Mary is right. General Turgid (George C. Scott) was a character in Dr. Strangelove. Peter Sellars played the president and Dr. Strangelove. You could portray McCain as either. Nutso, no matter which. We don't want this guy's finger on the button!!
  • mary potter
Sorry to tell you that McCain may be channeling, but it is Gen. Buck Turgid, not Dr. Strangelove. Strangelove was played by Peter Sellers. Satire is great, but let's keep the references accurate, lest we be satirized.

    Check this out:
Will the Real McCain Please Sit Down

    http://rense.com/general80/real.htm

The article doesn't make McCain look like a great guy...

Robert Timberg wrote in his book, "The Nightingale's Song", that "being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck."

Timberg said: McCain's grades were "marginal." He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low "class standing," and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot.

Timberg mentioned that McCain lost five military aircraft: 3 mysteriously and 2 apparently weren't his fault.

Who knows how much of this is true? It reminds me of Bush's past...
  • Debbie Lackowitz
Ah, the "real" McCain, channeling Dr. Strangelove? I LOVE it! Yes, Yes I'm seeing him "morph" into.....oh no! I'm glad I'm laughing, because it really would be "creepy" otherwise". Thanks Robert for another fun moment! Question, is this guy really gonna win the GOP nomination? I think a viewing of Kubrick's Strangelove is going to have to be required!

Wednesday I sent an e-mail to MSNBC, Which read as follows: Is it just me or is any one else reminded of "Dr Strangelove" by John McCain. I can just see him trying to keep his right arm under control as he talks to the "DECIDER" about his "90 VIRGINS" plan. As anyone who has seen the movie knows that would be the one where elite only males along with many attractive, fertile females would move underground after the nuclear holocaust, and whose goal it would be to repopulate the earth.

Well I don't know if Huffington or her staff picked up on my e-mail, but it doesn't matter since I just wanted to get it out there anyway.

WOW!! That old windbag McCained has really created a scare for the Democrat's fifth grader agenda, soap opera going on. I would be scared as well, if Bill's ole lady was running a campaign with a strong black male, and these were my only choices based on????. Seems like the soap opera will have to have them return to Washington to do their respective jobs.

If that matters in the least bit to them anyway.

DO NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN!!! John McCain is another turn-coat just like Jim Jeffords of Vermont. McCain was going to leave the republican party in 2001 and join the democrats, the only reason he didn't is because Jeffords of Vt. did it first. McCain is a RINO. (Republican In Name Only)
He consistantly sides with and co-writes bills with the democrats. McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy to name a few. I wish someone would put that old bastard out of our misery. This country is already bad enough without another lying president (clinton) in office. God help us.

    DOn't become too cutesy.
Things are very important, and you are dumbing them down.

Please don't become the nutjob you should be fighting against.
  • Brian Holuj
You have effectively lowered the bar to the standards you attacked in Outfoxed. Give me an objective argument on the candidate, not some juxtaposition of sound bites and movie clips to make a point. I have purchased a number of your films in the past because you offered a more intelligent and balanced view when attacking media bias, special interests in the war in Iraq, etc., but this last round of productions has left me wondering what has happened at your studios. Quit dumbing down the debate and turning away moderate thinkers. America needs less 'infotainment' and you are just adding to the pile of partisan crap.
  • Hey, if you had a huge mandibular mastoid like McCain does, you'd be crazy with pain all the time, too.

By the way, now that Kucinich has bowed out, it means he's available for a veep slot on the Paul ticket.

Anyway, that's my dream team. With Mike Gravel to round out the Triumvirate--which is actually the only appropriate guiding group for The American Empire.
  • Actually, McCain is really Captain Philip F.Queeg of the Caine Mutiny.

Great clip, but you left off the punchline:

    Bomb, bomb, bomb,
Bomb, bomb, Iran! (as Margot mentioned earlier)

Actually, I hope someone takes the original clip of McCain's Bomb, bomb, bomb...' remark and mashes it up with the 1964 LBJ mushroom cloud ad used against Barry Goldwater. It'd have to be updated, but would be very effective with McCain's words repeated over and over in the background.

One more thought: Remember, folks, the Fascists are playing hardball. It's time to use a few tricks against McCain, a revised Swift Boat campaign. I heard a rumor, don't know if it's true, that the reason McCain survived the Vietnamese prison camp was that he snitched on his buddies for special treatment. I hope someone will ask him at the next Fascist 'debate'. Spread the word!

Love it! Yes, it may be a bit much for those who aren't "deep thinkers" but, I, as one of those, appreciate the hilarity that comes with such creative flicks... as scary as Strangelove/McCain is, it is also hilarious to see. Well done. Thanks for the laugh -- and for making the (scary!) point.

Dont like this---not enough thought went into this clip...how bout bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb iran, along with some others--but what youre comparing it to will not relate to people in general---it may be to you but the general population are not that deep of thinkers...just stay on the surface for the uninformed and just plain stupid people who we have 2 deal with on an everyday basis...i may write in Kucinich also---he is the only one with "Colbert" TRUTHINESS endowed into him.
  • JP
    Sigh--

I really don't want McCain to win; surely we'd have more "Bush and Co." with him (and his VP, who'd have a good chance of succeeding him).
But I agree with those who say a) this is stupid, and b) that it'll do much more harm than good.

Please, use your time and talents to expose the more obvious truths about McCain and others like him. There's plenty of low-lying fruit there.
  • Laura
    McCain = nuclear Armageddon.
  • John McCain has strengths and weaknesses, just as all candidates do. For me, his biggest weakness has been his hawkish attitude on this war. I've never understood it, and it concerns me that he might be our next president.

I'll add that Greenwald's videos have indeed alerted me to some serious problems out there.

But this video is reaching too far. The comparison is very shallow. Mr. G, you can do better.
  • People who run for President are unstable to begin with. John was tortured for years and it shows. The rest of the names suggested here like Ron Paul and Obama fail to deal with the complex nature of professional liars. None of the candidates are one sided, they all have things to say about abortion, ecology, human rights and so forth. Ron Paul has said too many crazy things about what he would do in office to get him my vote. Obama is slightly less scary than Hillary and Hillary is clearly in to do some damage to those who attacked her husband, the Snake. Consider that Bill got the budget squared away but lied about "don't ask, don't tell". He was articulate if red-necked but didn't have the common sense to keep his pants on while working at the Oval Office. I suggest we support the candidate who will sign a contract with America to dismantle the structures of oppression and lawlessness which are the hallmark of the Bush-Cheney regime. Unlimited power over all aspects of government with no checks or balances, no appeals, and no Constitution , no Bill of Rights or international treaties are currently the policy of this administration. Which of them have pledged to give us back our Republic and our Rule of Law? Since only fanatics run for President, we have to find a relatively safe and sane fanatic to fix this mess. Kucinich was driven away so who are we left with? Ron Paul? I think not, his views are not only naive and extreme, but unconstitutional. We need a strong government which respects human rights, international law, and is always open and above board with us. McCain is a sick man and winning the Presidency would push him over the edge and we'd get someone even (dare I say it?)worse than George Bush or Dick Cheney. Personally I think the best choice is to get the names of all registered voters and pull one out of a hat to be President, then pull one for vice-President and so on through Congress. Could it be much worse than what we now call an "democratic election process", when tens of thousands of legal voters are turned aside at the polls and nobody gets impeached?
  • ken lusk
McCain is declaring war's for 100's of years and he's not even elected president. Being a Senator you'd think he was familiar with the constitutional process which only allows congress to declare war's. He's a war criminal for bombing civilians in Vietnam and a traitor for violating the UCMJ, Uniform Code of Military Justice and didn't protect his own family in 2000 when they were insulted and abused buy the Bush gang.So now he's declared war on the world not even bothering about the consent of Americans.A war criminal President, who promises to override the will of the taxapayers that provide monies, who has already declared war on the world for 100's of years, a disaster waiting to happen. If it sounds and say it's a dictator, it's a dictator, INSANE McCAIN.
  • JoAnn Hansen
This video really sucks--I am not a John McCain fan and I don't like his war-mongering stance, but this video will do much more harm than good--like the MoveOn Gen Petreaus--Betray Us ad--only this is MUCH worse--it makes NO sense. It is so ridiculous, McCain will probably use it himself. Come on you guys, if you can't do better than this, give it up--don't give McCain crazy stuff for fodder.

Well all I can say is if we have another republician in the Oval Office. Our country which is in economic distress from the present one will be in dire straights. The world the people the climate will suffer. These are bad times. The chant for never ending war is one that will bring events to be felt for many decades prehaps for centuries. The hacks that are already in office are willing to sacriface people and resources and the earth .More of the same from the likes of McCain is totaly unacceptable.Rather than Dr. Strangelove I think Dr. Murder and Mayhem fits the neo-cons more appropriately.

This is a ridiculous video! Matthew is right it does more harm than good. If you would only show the real John McCain people might just take you seriously.

    Simple says it best.

Wars can be prevented just as surely as they can be provoked, and we who fail to prevent them must share in the guilt for the dead.
General Omar Bradley: The last 5 star general of the U.S. Army

Are you feeling the slightest bit guilty? Will we see bush on trial for his war crimes what about the war crimes of the "troops"? What have any of you done to stop the war crimes going on right now? Impeachment is not enough at this point... imprisonment is needed to show other war criminals that this is not acceptable in our world.

i could not sense any israeli trolls in these posts, which means that at least the admirers and supporters of this other CFR warmongering puppet, who is not even a US natural, but Panamenian born, and therefore inadmissible as president, are as conceited egolaters as McNut himself. And it's a LOAD of them! Good job, pssst!

I have to agree with Henry. If you think that not wanting a war means that there won't be a war, you're delusional. We will probably end up fighting either Iran or Pakistan, or both, as well as in Africa. China is down that road, too. This town really isn't big enough for the 2 of us, (China and the US), and the reason we're trying to control the resources like oil is to contain economies like China, and keep them from growing too big. Climate change enters into it, as does world overpopulation. McCain is not lying when he says there will be more wars. But, that doesn't make him presidential material. Not even close.
  • With this video depicting John McCain as equivalent to the lunatic psychopath General Turgidson, played by George C. Scott — you are very wide of the mark, and you do all progressives a disservice with such sophomoric pap. McCain is definitely not a raving lunatic. He is simply a small, frightened, narrow-minded little man who has been promoted far beyond his capacities. This would be tragically revealed to us if he should be unfortunate enough to ever sit in the oval office with the Red Phone on his desk. What he is, though, is very sadly mistaken. He imagines that he is exercising extraordinary bravery in his dismal attempts to speak Truth to Power, when, in fact, he is the very mouthpiece of the power he claims he desires to reform. In all these respects, he is blinded by an entrenched hubris and the neocn idée fixe, which posits the notion of what gore Vidal calls “perpetual war for perpetual peace.” Or, in simpler terms: Pax Americana.

The real danger represented by the John McCains of the rigid right, is not the stark, raving lunacy like that depicted by Turgidson, as your asinine video would have us believe, but the fact that he is not crazy at all in the mode of the madmen of Dr. Strangelove. He is a simple, down home, home spun, ordinary guy, thrust into extremely grave circumstances as a very young man, who is now entering his dotage in a state of delusional ignorance on a cosmic scale. In our actual world, where real politick decides the fate of the globe, his condition of recognizable normalcy is far and away a greater threat to the security of the whole world than the rabid, madman image projected by General Turgidson in the film. By attempting to draw a comparison between John McCain, the man, and the farcical, satiric character of a rampaging, fictional warrior, you have diminished the staggering danger that he and the cabal he represents pose to the world.

In the eyes of the mass of innocents, boobs, red necks, arch patriots, war zealots, biblical fundamentalists, and various other fear-driven sleepwalkers making up that part of the rightist American body politic, who continue to admire and support John McCain, you have made him seem far more benign than he could ever be. So, in your simplistic, frat boy pseudo-comedy, you are not only preaching to the choir, you have further alienated the very core audience you should be seeking to reach and persuade. Furthermore, you have stooped to name-calling by association, character assassination, failing to tackle a major issue head on, and all in the same bargain. Gentlemen and ladies, this is not a coup — it is a reason to be ashamed. It is, in my opinion, time for damage control. Publish another more pertinent, factual, and sensitive video showing where the real dangers are to be found, and at the same time make an apology to John McCain for your very unclever tomfoolery. Facts and farce do not combine, and cheap shots eventually injure the shooter. Beware the backlash that is sure to come from the far right. Strive not to make them mad, but to make them see.
  • Carole Tallerino
John Mc Cain is NOT presidentail quality! I agree with you Julie who commented before me. He IS obviously UNSTABLE and all those other things you said about him. He is not any better than Bush! . He will have us at war forever and not accomplish anything for the United States of America. We need a LEADER who will bring us back to where we were before Bush. And not a Republican! Lord no.
Clinton has everything it takes to run our country in the dignified manner that mirrors the Constitution! Let's get our dignity back in the eyes of other countries as U.S. the Leader!
  • Lionel
John McCain is honestly frightened about this war and suffers from his past. This does not a good leader make! He cow towed to Bush after being Bush-bashed when he ran against Bush. McCain then simply fell in line, tail between legs and went along with the "good old boys." America does not need an out of touch old mad reliving his war years and declaring we may be in this war for 100 years. Old men sending young men to fight and die for old ways. I don't think so......!!
  • Henry
I've liked a lot of BNF's stuff, but this video doesn't make the common sense cut. It starts off with McCain saying "I'll always tell the truth" and then proceeding to, well- tell the truth. Are you trying to criticize the guy, or make him look good?

I don't like McCain, and he's one of the most right wing Senators around. But (unlike our current pres and VP) he has some understanding of the horrors of war. And it showed in that clip. My gripe with him is that he wasn't making these comments in early 2002, before the invasion. If we had gotten some plain talk rather than a lot of follow the leader at that point, we might never have gone to war.

There is plenty to dislike about McCain. Stick to that, rather than bashing him for one of the rare occasions when he's telling the truth about US policy and its' consequences. Yes, there will be more war, more wounds, and more PTSD. Compare this to Bush, who won't let caskets be photographed.
  • Julie
This man is obviously UNSTABLE. He's pigheaded, overbearing, bloodthirsty, vindictive, unpredictable and terrifying. Another stooge from the Bush template. Easy for corporations to manipulate. That's what they want. This fellow is EXTREMELY DISTURBING and DISTURBED. Why don't Republicans see that? Does anyone else see that?

Does anyone remember him singing Bomb bomb Iran?
Did you hear him saying that if we leave Iraq than Al Queda will win? Even though it is not Al Queda but the Iraqi people who do not want American occupation and theft of their natural resources or 14 bases and an American Embassy that runs death squads out of it a la Negraponte's Honduras..and do you you remember Negraponte was sent to Iraq as well? US has divided country based on sectarian divides and created neighborhoods based on religious sects. Divide and conquer..divide then loot.

McCain's dismal predictions of the future may reflect the defeatist sentiment right-wingers justifiably feel right now. He's preaching to the right audience, so to speak. These idiots have led us down the path to destruction of the very heart of our democracy, and now they want to cast the whole mess as an inevitable outcome of the enemies philosopy. This is exactly what Dr. Strangelove was about, not what we believe as moral human beings, but what we fear our about our enemies. When you cast your enemy in the role of demon, psychopath, terrorist, secular humanist (insert label here), you can justify thermonuclear war and genocide. My bumper sticker says: Do we fear our enemies more than we love our children?
Good video, but takes far too much thinking for the average self-absorbed, xenophobic "social conservative".

Well. Soon will the fat lady start singing and the game will be over. The central bank is stealing your purchasing power by deliberately devaluing dollar to fund the empire. And the corrupt government is looting the rest, just like the Soviets.

We all got to get to our senses. Do not make the government steal for you, you might very well be the next guy to be robbed. There is no good that the government could do that the people couldn't do on the basis of full voluntary consent. America should not police the world but mind it own business and protect its borders.

The clip itself DOESN'T say "John Mcain is Dr. Strangelove" or "John McCain has been channeling Dr. Strangelove." Those are just in the title above and paragraph under the video.

Please change them "John McCain channels GENERAL TURGIDSON."

Maybe the reference was intended to be to the movie, but as comments below have shown, it's too easily taken to refer to the good Doctor himself. And if McCain ever tried channeling Peter Sellers, his head would probably explode.

I'm a dyed in the wool Democrat, and even I think this video is dumb. McCain is right, there will be more wars. There are always more wars; that, unfortunately, is human nature. McCain lost all his cred 4 years ago when he came out in support of the Abomination presently residing at the White House. Robert Smigel depicted this perfectly with a SNL cartoon that is referred to by www.perrspectives.com and video.lisarein.com

i cannot see, other than an alliance of convenience, how McCain could ever have allied himself with this enemy of himself as well as the American nation and the peoples of the world.

i once confronted McCain about it on a WBUR call-in show (either The Connection or The Point) in 2005 or 2006. no satisfactory answer, so McCain has allowed himself to become a Bush-whore.
  • jack
This video struck a chord, I was beginning to believe all the stuff about McCain being not so bad, then I was brought back to reality with this, we don't need another four years of a Bush wannabe...

That was stupid. How can that be titled "the real McCain" when it is just a bunch of quotes taken out of context juxtaposed over a bunch of clips of other people and things? I don't support McCain or the republican party. This was just a pointless exercise of self-indulgence. Really really stupid.
  • lilelm
Sorry Tiffany. You have been misled. McCain cares not about the troops. Just as he did not care about others when he voluntarily gave up info to the enemy in Vietnam in order to save himself. Many died because of his betrayal. His medical records from that time have been made public BUT he took steps to make sure that his other records were sealed forever. Why in the world would he do that? Any why would he not support the people that were checking into the POWs that were still in Vietnam after the war?

He is a twisted and troubled man and to be feared in any office. I still cannot figure out the people of Arizona that continue to reelect him. His "my friends" slogan rings very, very hollow. He is scary and I would not want him anywhere near that red button. Has a terrible temper besides.

I'm a left-libertarian (sorta). I hate neocons. Now that I've said this, let me say that this video is not the best example of what I've seen so far from this site.

I doubt it's effective in rallying the left-wing base, because it doesn't bring up any new info or present existing info in a new, useful way. (Not like "The Real Rudy", which gave me some facts on Rudy of which I wasn't previously aware.)

It's not going to convert any right-wingers. (Well, "QED".)

It *risks* alienating independents. How so? Because McCain is talking about the *truth* about war. People *do* die in war. And some wars *are* necessary. Right-wingers, independents, and even many/most left-wingers believe fighting Muslim militants requires force. So, although there are other ways to ridicule McCain, ridiculing his "truthfulness" about "war is awful" likely backfires in the minds of most people.

The video talks of "ten, twenty millions". McCain isn't talking about that number. True, probably a million Iraqi civilians have died. But, McCain probably doesn't believe the Lancet studies (and doubtfully would admit to them). And neither do most independents and right-wingers. So, when they watch this video, it makes the producers -- us left-wingers -- look foolish.

I'm not going to rehash all the reasons our foreign policy sucks. (E.g., we're making terrorists faster than we can kill them; unilateralism is stupid.) Believe me, I believe the PNAC signatories manufactured their constituents' consent to start the war. But, I don't think this video informs, educates, inspires, changes minds, etc., etc.

That being said, I recognize not every film is going to be "two thumbs up". I applaud the efforts on this site.

There is a resemblence lol. McCain has that whole Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde thing going on. I just cannot get over the plastic-looking chipmunk cheeks with the slow, deliberate talking. It is scary...I think he might be a victim of post-traumatic stress disorder. I don't know about you folks, but being in war with Iraq and possibly the rest of the Middle East puts our security in this country at risk. McCain is not our man. Ron Paul is starting to make sense to me, so I changed my name to Paul4Freedom.

  • SimonPetersen
The character "Dr. Strangelove" is played by Peter Sellers. The character we see here is infact "Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson", played by George C. Scott.
  • Ron Paul says "We marched in, We can just march out." "Just come home." "We made the wrong diagnosis; It's time to change the treatment." Ron Paul has condemned the war since the beginning and vows to bring the troops home immediately. Furthermore, he would NOT attack Iran and would start bringing the troops home from all of the 130 US occupations worldwide.
His foreign policy is that of The Golden Rule: a diplomacy of friendship and trade, address the incentive of potential enemies and resolve issues without force or subsidizing, no nation building, no policing the world.
Ron Paul is the most effective peace candidate running for president. He wants peace, and has a plan works.

BE CAREFUL. Don't be too negative on McCain if you are with friends who are Republican. Romney may otherwise get the nonimation. Look into Mitt's eyes and feel his anger. He is Richard Nixon reincarnated. Romney will do anything to be elected and will be worse than Bush if he is. He MUST NOT win the primary race so be careful about dissing McCain around those who you know will vote Republican. It's good common sense. We can deal with McCain later.
  • FlynnMD
Since a face-off of Clinton/McCain remains possible and I may have to go the Vietnam Vet anyway as the dynastic alternative is less palatable, I prefer to re-think McCain as:

JOHN McCLANE (Bruce Willis) in the Die Hard movies.
    "Yippy-Ay-Kay-Yea, M-Fers!"

    Alan Rickman can play Osama.
  • Tiffany
Although I am concerned about the possibility of John McCain pulling us into additional wars, he is the only Repulican that actually seems to care about the vets, and to acknowledge that our guys are coming back from Iraq with some very serious problems. Everybody else wants to sweep PTSD under the rug.
Honestly, McCain seems to be the least scary of the Republican candidates. Personally, I want to see Barack Obama in the White House. But, given the knack the Democrats seem to have for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory time and again, I'd much prefer to see a McCain candidacy over Romney or (God-forbid) Huckabee.
Maybe we should wait until the primaries are over before going after this guy. Stick with Romney and Huckabee for now...they're easier targets anyway. You don't need to stretch nearly as hard.

  • billy pilgrim
I would just run the clip of General Turgidson's quote: "Only MODEST and ACCEPTABLE civilian casualties in the remaining force, which would be badly damaged and uncoordinated." Run that over and over. That one quote says it all about Iraq. The rest, as many have already said, is messy and looks hastily done. Saying that McCain "IS" Dr. Strangelove isn't just wrong. You could get away with transposing the clips of Turgidson with McCain's quotes, but leave it at that, but saying he IS Turgidson is over the top. And what is that footage of Slim Pickens riding the bomb down doing in there? It looks like you're trying to say "McCain IS T.J.'King' Kong" as well. Too much, guys. Less is more. Make fewer and better videos.

Speaking of over the top, George C. Scott riginally played Turgidson much straighter than appears in the film. After he played each scene his way, Kubrick would ask him to do a second take, this time "over the top." Kubrick then chose those takes for the final film. This did not sit well with Scott, who famously went on to "Patton" just four years later.
  • Keith Behme
I always did love that final scene in that movie. Too bad fiction is starting to become reality.
  • You're not the only ones thinking there is a Dr. Strangelove alive and kicking inside of McCain. TrueMajorityAction has just completed major construction on its latest vehicle--the (don't bomb) IranMobile. A giant sized thermonuclear missile that rises to 20 feet in the air for launch, and sitting astride, along for the ride, our very own George W. Bush waving his cowboy hat. Towed by the Lincoln Town Car Bannermobile, our version of Dr. Strangelove will be making a first in the nation shakedown appearance warmly greeting John McCain and Lieberman this Sunday, Feb. 3rd in CT.

Here’s the way I see the whole McCain thing.
    He’s a freekin schizophrenic.
Funny, charming, humble and gentle one moment.
Mean, nasty, condescending and threatening the next.
A change of personality to the degree that it worries me.
Like this guy is not right .
Could it be his Vietnam experience and his aging mind?
  • The Douglas
McClueless is a witty charmer. He's a great late night talk show guest. And was amazingly brave at the Hanoi Hilton. And if it were up to him, we'd STILL be in Nam! He continues to enthusiastically support Bush's Catastrophic Suckcess in Iraq, only he wants MORE troops over there. And don't forget his utterly clueless amble through that "secure" market in Baghdad......remember? with the flak jacket and the body guards...? This guy's trigger finger is WAYYYYY to itchy to be in White House.....
  • onewomanink
I see Ed Harris cast in the starring role of John McCain; Harris was masterful in his portrayal of the mentally damaged artist, Jackson Pollack.

McCain is the one politician in the race who is still (unbelievably) labeled a "maverick," and perfectly well-suited to lead this country. He is prone to outrageous fits of anger in public (like the Senate chambers) and in private, he can flip-flop on both major and minor issues, he can outright lie-especially in public, he can dissemble when caught in a jam, and he can be a total brown-nosed wuss when dealing with Bush (McCain's hero) and his theocratic, fascist cabal--I mean administration.

It's absurd. How very Dr. Strangelove.
  • Charlie
Geez...I can't stand to hear him continue to talk about war. The thought, alone, that we could be in Iraq another 50 or 80 years is deplorable! The notion that there could be MORE WAR? That's simply unacceptable. Screw that, there is a better way. There is a peaceful way. If John McCain is too blood-crazy to realize that, he needs to carry his @ss home! I'm starting to really hate this guy, he needs to stop it with the Iraq and the War BS.
  • PBR
I'm sorry, but this video is incredibly weak. I look at it and think that only a desperate person without any real criticism of McCain is grasping at all too desiccated, brittle straws. I agree with Bubuto: it would be much better to include clips in this video like "Bomb bomb bomb Iran." But most people--at least most Americans--would look at this and say, "Well, of course we're going to have more wars, the world being what it is." Anyone thinking otherwise or gasping in shock at someone's saying it would be perceived to be as clueless as we're (rightfully) accusing McCain of being.

I hope this video never airs. Somebody please change it before it's too late! (And, although a comparison to Dr. Strangelove is certainly appropriate, I wonder if there's something even more recent that would appeal to many of the under-40 set, since many of them haven't seen or don't care to see a lot of B&W; movies, no matter who made them.)
  • robmeurer
Well, it's not as funny or clever as you think it is, but it is a point made. Personally, I would take the words "There will be more wars" and just repeat them ad nauseum. That pretty much sums him up. Unfortunately, I think that pretty well sums up Obama and Hillary as well, both Iraq war supporters until it became unfashionable.
  • James Baker Lt Col USAF Ret
I don't care for the clip. I don't support McCain for President, but comparing him to Dr. Strangelove is unworthy, even as humor. Go back to the kind of clips that so brilliantly exposed Giuliani's 9/11 failures.
  • justjim
Great stuff!!! Although I like some the issues John McCain stands for, people have to realize that John is of the warrior class. He is an American Samurai. His father and grandfather were an Admirals in the Navy. His stubbornness in wanting to win battles is misguided. No country ever wins a war. Your video piece is well done and accurate and tragically funny.
  • Liberty
Oh, it's okay for the Republikan Evil-Doooers to do something like this but it's not okay for the spineless Democrats?! It's about time with fought fire with fire. Bush and the Republikans lied to start the war in Iraq so Cheney's ex-company could make billions. Hundreds of thousands are now dead. And we're supposed to play nice. McCain should know better. He has lived war. He is truly sick to try to ride this war-mongering into the White House.

You Gotta Be Sick to Vote Republikan.
  • Stanley Kubrick
This piece really lame. And promoting the fact that McCain is a militarist is no revelation. How about producing a video on the militarists running from Dem side? You know, Clinton and Obama.

Never mind. Just keep preaching to the choir. I'm sure it will make a huge difference.
  • Rebel Farmer
After viewing the clip and reading many of the comments, I have to agree that in the current political environment, this clip should be pulled. The Bomb Bomb Iran clip was much more appropriate. Something along the lines of "If you like the Iraq war, you're gonna love McCain in Iran". Or something like that. For some reason I like the "Flip Flop" idea as well. Clips of McCain being contradictory to himself over the years. Or "Why won't McCain Stand Up Against Torture". Or clips of McCain making threats against other countries that are against the UN Charter? There is so much material out there that would better serve the voters.

    Thanks for all you do
  • chaztmac
The analogy concept is good but I agree with the jist of many comments here. The particular clip of McCain in juxtaposition with the Dr. Strangelove clip fails. You need a more equally maniacal clip of McCain, such as, him doing the "Bomb, bomb, bomb... Bomb, bomb Iran!", as previously mentioned in Mark Reback's comment.

BTW, Peter Sellers was Dr Stranglove; George C. Scott is the maniacal Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson in the clip; and the guy riding the bomb at the end is Slim Pickens as Maj. T.J. 'King' Kong. Courtesy a quick bit of research at IMBD; www.imdb.com
  • Yes, McCain is Dr. Strangelove. He's very similar to Bush except that he was not a chickenhawk (like most pro-war mouthpieces). Hopefully, the fake opposition party (Dems) will grow a spine and truly oppose the war. - Rev. Bookburn, Radio Volta, Philadelphia

Come on..let's not stoop this low to make the point. The divisiveness between Hillary and Obama and McCain and Romney is enough. Mr. Greenwald...clever but put this one away, please.
  • Samoans4justice
Since when did Robert Greenwald's free speech become the official voice of the Democratic party? Those of you criticizing the clip are the very cowards that lost us previous elections. The Republican party and its supporters are selfish emotionally damaged people that can only relate to clips such as this. Fight fire with fire. I am so sick of you politically correct woosies...get a backbone. Great Job BraveNew Films
  • Bubuto
Please add the clip where McCain sings...'Bomb bomb bomb Iran'. This guy is scary. We don't need him or any more wars..
  • Patricia Seyfried
    terrific...............
  • Mary from CT
This man is a war hero and we should honor and respect him for THAT!

But, he is as brain dead as Bush ever was (and is). The words "War Lover" seem to pop into my head whenever I either see him or hear him speak. And I don't think he's so honest AT ALL. He twists facts to suit his own agenda just like any old school politician would, and thinks that reiterating the lies he invents will make people eventually think they're true. Worst of all, he wipes all hope away and makes the world seem a universal Hanoi Hilton.

I'm sorry to have to add that his ill tempered, vindictive, mean spirited nature seems abundantly evident to me, especially whenever his perceived nemesis, Mitt Romney, appears on the scene.

Let's not descend to the level seen in this clip, though. We don't need it. It's overkill in the worst sense of the word.

    Unabashedly pro-Obama
  • Anne Marie
My favorite film of all times! McCain should play Dr. Stranglove, but, I doubt he could make it. Especially the multitalented roles that Sellers played.....To bring it up to date - Who would play "Rummy" - the George C Scott part ??????

Sean Hayes? Ben Affleck? Richard Gere?

Anyway, this is great and I could not agee more...I have been telling friends about W and Dr. Strangelove for years,...and McCain is folling in the footsteps of W and Rummy. Perhaps McCain has some PTSD? Some dementia????
  • Bill Hare
Congratulations! My last column was devoted to the myth of "McCain as a Moderate" and this film is a real gem that needs to be seen by as many people as possible. Please note that Time has reliably picked up the cue as a mainstream media propaganda source with its latest cover story extolling McCain and at one point practically calling him a liberal.
  • Linda
To the people supporting Obama, he's an EX? muslim. They have said in order to take us down they have to get inside and what better position than Presidency.
  • <font color=blue>Mike&lt
I like this clip. 'nuf said.
  • AlphaO
When someone recognizes reality that's "blind partisanship. See the film brother as well as read a few books books on the sickos who're running the show--and will continue with guys like you supporting them. YAHOO.
  • Eric Chandler
You have missed the mark with this film. As another writer has already said, it will be used against us. I am a Vietnam-era vet; I respect JM for his service even as I find his policies to be wrong and his shortcomings evident. There are plenty of arguments to be made that do not require descent into the cheap insults of this film.
  • Ron M.
I cannot believe there are still some dinosaurs out there who insist that Bush just made a mistake and the way to correct it is to follow McCain and his war after war strategy. How much money are we going to spend for McCain's "victory"? He is off the deep end! Luckily for us he will never be President! Otherwise the draft would be reinstated immediately and that would include all classes of people. That also means going it alone again. It would break this country financially.
  • claude steiner
What happened to Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran? If you are going to liken him to Strangelove you are missing an importat link
  • Jim Russo
Please pull this one, Robert. It's clever as hell and fun. But McCain's no "Buck" Turgidson, and pretending he is hurts us, not him, sorta like how the "daisy" ad hurt LBJ.

McCain's vulnerability is his world view. We're beginning to see ourselves as irrelevant blundering men in armor, spreading bombast and feeding off fear. Maybe something from "Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" would make the point more subtly and not meanly?
  • Chicago biker
Your blind partisanship is getting pretty old. When you started out it seemed you had intelligent things to say. What happened? Are you really looking for a better way or just trying to convince Americans to pull the Democratic lever no matter what? Seek some wisdom, it might help your mission.
  • Tim
McCain (Mr. bomb bomb iran) is a scary freak and now that he has that whacko Guiliani endorsing him, we could be on a faster track to Armageddon than Bush has been driving. If you live in California, I would be embarrassed of your governor as he is also showing that he lacks common sense, integrity, and moral values. Nobody in this campaign has many promising values but Bozo the Clown would be a better choice than Idi Amin McCain.
  • Noe Rodriguez, Jr.
Tony Alvarado, I'd like to think yours is the prevailing wisdom, but it's not, it's just prevailing.
  • Wanda
    Stan,
You said it like it is! Ditto to your comments.
  • Carol
Dr. Strangelove is another character in the movie. The guy shown is Gen. Jack D. Ripper.
Movies of the man himself are scarier than this lame parody.
  • Nate C
Scrolling through the comments while waiting for the video to load, I am shocked so many of you show ANY support for this guy! Yes, he did serve in the military & suffered for it, I'll give him that, & in fact feel for him in that aspect. But did you NOT hear him say, towards the end of the clip, he expects us to remain in Iraq for as long as 100 YEARS?!? THAT fact ALONE should erode ANYONES' support!!! He is DANGEROUS, no doubt about it!
  • Alex Rabinowitch
I disagree with John McCain on the war and do not think he is remotely qualified to be President. But he is honest and decent. If the stakes were not so high, this film might be good for a laugh. In the current environment, it should be disturbing to all progressives if only because it will surely be used against us. Kill it! The sooner the better.
  • RoughAcres
Please remove this video immediately. Burn all copies. Shred all scripts. Leave no pixel behind.

Others have said this, but let me repeat: this "ad" is both silly and dangerous, unless your aim is to get John McCain elected (is it?)

Focus on some of the facts:
    1. John McCain is 71. He's been treated for cancer and for injuries sustained during his stay in the "Hanoi Hilton." What's his health prognosis? And who's his leading man for VP -- Giuliani?
    2. John McCain actually IS ten times the "flip-flopper" that John Kerry was portrayed as being. Review his public statements from 2000 to the present, and you find hundreds of inconsistencies, in his own words and voice.
    3. John McCain's reputation as an "independent" is belied by his actual vote record (check it out for yourself).
    4. Many colleagues who have worked with him in the Senate have strong reservations about his temper; some of them have agendas -- but all?
    5. By his own admission, economic issues are not McCain's strong suit; with a recession as deep as we're going to face, this is a CRITICAL issue.
    6. By his own admission, the policies of war ARE McCain's strong suit. With 51% (acknowledged) of the national budget, military spending is far too high NOW, without further military misadventures or the continuation of wrongheaded ones. Don't know about you, but I want a president who can stand down from a military option to an "out of the box" solution (remember October '63? I do. Quite well.)

PLEASE - use the facts, lose the attitude. It will only come back to bite you in the ass.
  • Tony Alvarado
I really cant tell if you are pushing for Mit or Hillary or what, but you seem to be blind, deaf or stupid. McCain has zero in common with that fictional character in the satirical movie Dr. Strangelove. McCain is not saying he wants wars. He is not saying he wants us to be in Iraq. He is saying that bad things happen if we like it or not.

if a surgeon is in the middle of an operation, he cant just stop because his shift is over, or its not fun any more, he must stay until the job is done. Grow up!! Pulling out of Iraq now would be the worst move yet! G.W. Bush, lied again and again got us in a bad situation. now he gets to finish out his term and retire and the rest of us must pay the price for his personal war. Some mistakes cant just be undone. What we need is an adult to speak the hard truth like it or not.
  • theron
    Hey now...

Of course Dr. Strangelove was satire..McCain is life imitating art. So is Hillary. Other republicans claim god made them do it; McCain simply uses the strangelove logic. Hilliary just pretends. George C Scott's general was also a "straight talker," just insane. Listen to what they all say...the logic they bring to the issues: logic that is self-contained but that simply does not connect to the reality around them.

    The film is a hoot.
  • WayToTheLeft
McCain's warmongering will certainly damn him on election day, should he make it that far. However, I have to strongly agree with the folks here who find this video offensive and counterproductive.

    Please remove it!
  • Mark Snyder
I have to agree that this is inflammatory. It is enough to show him repeating "there will be more wars." No reference to Dr. S is needed. In 2006 I caused a distant Aunt to cry merely by pointing out that the US lost the VietNam war. Her late husband was a VietNam vet about the same age as McCain, minus the POW status. Others will be very offended. Even though such offense is objectively irrational, it is socially expected. The question is how to be respectfully skeptical about the authority his POW experience lends to his judgment on national security matters, including the fence. I don't want to live in the walled country the republicans seem so intent on building.

The real problem is this. We (all) need to develop a factual narrative of our history. Right now, there are two contradictory histories, the fantastic Republican one and the many, slightly less fantastic Democratic ones. None of them are accurate. This causes madness and endless, senseless wars. If we cannot agree to be bound by reality, we deserve the doom that will follow.
  • CHuck
McCain may not be the best candidate but overall he's a decent person and overall an honest guy. I don't think it's helping the Dem cause by trying to smear him. I support Obama. Some fohte posters are correct when they say Obama wouldn't approve ofthis. THe vid is a stretch.
  • Ron M.
I just took a look at the video of The McCain doctrine. Casualties mean nothing compared to "victory"! Whatever that may be. This would be a great TV commercial to run in the general election. It would soar into the top 3 McCain war monger videos. Next to "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran and McCain's futuristic quote of "We will be in Iraq for 10 years!
  • nervo
I agree with comments to the effect that a montage of his real positions would be more effective than this satire - esp in influencing undecided voters to think about who he really is. His deeper lack of integrity & spine showed when he began licking Bush's boots & backside after the 2000 smear campaign.
  • William Merigan
This was an appalling movie and putting it out there does a serious disservice to democrats of all varieties. I recall having respect for BNF when I saw their first products, but lately the films have been nasty and include mean spirited distortions. This was a completely irresponsible assault on John McCain, whom I have never before felt an urge to defend (except when he was attacked in similar fashion by the swiftboaters). In future, you should wait at least an hour until the frenzy of attack has dissipated and see if you really want to put out the latest product on your site. If this type of product continues, BNF will simply be ignored as a left wing variant of the right wing nut jobs.
  • The character is from the Dr. Strangelove movie, but it is not Dr. Strangelove. It's General "Buck" Turgidson.
  • william ancarrow
I have heard (in these comments)several people comment that the analogy between McCain & Dr Strangelove)is poor. Well you are free to miss the point or pick a nit. The fact is that McCain is a war-monger. This war, like all others since WW2 is a military action for large corporations, paid for by the American treasury. In this case the Corporations are the oil giants. It was entered based on lies, and has no moral basis. Nothing is being accomplished save destruction. Our tax dollars have killed millions of civilians in Iraq & around the world. We owe those people an abject apology and recompense in the very least. I am so sick of seeing my country become a fascist state. We are well on the way.
  • Stan
Regardless of political party, why is it if a Republican lies, its ok but a democrat does its the worst thing that ever happened ? With the past 8 years how ANYone with a brain could vote Republican is beyond me. Dear God bring back the good days when Democrat meant all people or more Govt, and Republican meant a few people and less Govt. Bring back the days when church and state were seperate, with good reason. Give credit where credit is due, when we listen to the Republicans and the "pseudo" christians, we can understand how Hitler was elected...and how Bin Laden has support of SOME muslims. I'm still waiting to hear how giving the lesbian couple in the neighborhood the same rights that the thrice divorced man has with his NEW wife (which he cheated on his wife to obtain) ??? The minute they are married, she is covered on his insurance?? I forgot, the psedo christians took the " do unto others as you would have them do unto you" out of the biblical text...its ALL about money now. If there is a God in heaven (and I believe there is) I hope all the pro-life righties who voted Bush into power see the lives of the almost 4000 innocent Americans they sent to death in the war. But again I forget, a lie that costs someone their life means nothing, the only lie that matters is one pertaining to a personal relationship. And that damn Hillary...forgiving her husband...didn't she know tha the "pseudo" christians took forgiving out of the biblical text too ?
  • SLZ
I agree with Ralph Leighton and Bradley and others - this is more of the same %%^*()that has been accepted as part and parcel of politics--I'm with Obama--stop it! Take it down and quit promoting it.
  • dagored
Hello....McCain is NOT a moderate...he is still preaching VICTORY in Iraq and we may be there for ten, one hundred, or a million years according to "straight talker"....what a twisting of the facts...does McCain realize that we got into this mess via a series of lies and distortions?? This man needs therapy...quickly...
I do not believe that being shot down in North Vietnam and being a POW for several years qualifies him for the top spot...As Harry Truman once said of another politician, "He should not be elected dog catcher in any Phillipine village!" And I agree with HST...
  • Cheryl
John McCain is as nutty as a fruit cake...More Wars... What the heck can he be thinking. Wars hurt the US economy and they kill American young people... War should be reserved for a last resort only, like WWII and WWI were...we were out of options and going to war in those cases was a necessary evil...Iraq is a whole different thing, it was and is based on lies...Afghanistan was needed...and yet we still haven't found Bin Laudin...What's up with that... Bush doesn't want us to find and kill him, is what is up...it would hurt his business dealings when he leaves office.
  • OK
All you have to do is review McCain's 2002 speech to the RNC. In it is clear evidence of his misleading us to war in Iraq. Anyone with video editing abilities can make THE perfect ad.
  • Rick
Horrible in about every way. It makes McCain look exactly like what he's trying to present himself as being: a straight-shooter. It makes those of us who aren't particularly thrilled at the prospect of a McCain presidency look as if we have no ammunition against him but smarmy innuendo. And since when did BNF start quoting Joe Scarborough? It's the RIGHT who wants to portray McCain as the fewer jobs/more wars candidate. That's because McCain (in these particular instances) told the truth about the future of warfare and about automotive jobs in Detroit. They'd rather hear the more pleasant falsehoods of the Bush administration (and Mitt Romney). There's plenty wrong with McCain, but this kind of cheap shot accomplishes nothing positive.
  • Greta
McCain is seriously lacking in judgement - he ignores the reality of the Iraq War and its consequences and I think your film would be far more effective with clips of McCain making his statements - which are quite scary- without the video from Strangelove.
As for his "integrity", I think he should have rejected Bush after the dirty tricks used in the South Carolina primary in 2000. Instead, he joined forces with him. Remember his "trip" to Iraq wearing the flak jacket surrounded by military security, etc. and stating that we had made tremendous progress about one year ago? Is that demonstrating integrity or just supporting the President?
In any case, we need to use his own quotes against a backdrop of military music to show how dangerous he could be as a president.
  • Ralph Leighton
This video is unfair, and will backfire on the Democrats. As an Obama supporter, I look forward to a civil debate between Obama and McCain -- without stupid distractions like this video.

Get a grip and take it down.

    Respectfully yours,

    Ralph Leighton

  • Please, please use McCain's statement to the Wall Street Journal that he "doesn't really understand economics" and cast McCain as Uncle Billy in It's a Wonderful Life.
  • bradley kesden
I am a lifelong democrat who would never vote for McCain, but this video is just a stretch and a cheap shot, that's preaching to a small segment of the converted: older liberals, who are the only people who would remember this film in the first place. You don't need more than McCain's own statements and votes to make him look bad. This makes the left look bad. Like/agree with him or not, most folks respect McCain, more than we could say for the clintons.
  • Ben Bernard
I hate to agree with the other commenters, but I have to. I can't STAND McCain. But he is not the brainless, reckless cowboy that W is, and this clip is just too much of a stretch to be convincing, even when preaching to the choir. Picking a word or two here and there completely out of context does you and our position a disservice.
I think John McCain is completely wrong about Iraq. But at least he's not a chickenhaawk: he's been in the military, and has family in the military now. A real argument against his position would be more helpful than painting him with the same brush used on the Bushite neocons.
  • Temmo
Sorry -- this one seems over-the-top, and sloppy in its conception.

Dr. Strangelove was Peter Sellers' character in the movie; this video shows Gen. Buck Turgidson (George C. Scott). The bomb-riding cowboy at the end was Maj. "King" Kong, played by Slim Pickens.

We can't tell (from this video, anyway) what McCain is referring to when he says "there will be more wars," but in a general sense he has to be right. Human groups naturally conflict with one another -- anything else would require a transformation of human nature which it is beyond our power to effect. The questions are: which wars to get into (and whether, and why), how to conduct ourselves during them, how to finish them, and how to behave afterwards. Believing that we can eliminate war from the human world seems to me equivalent to believing we can eliminate hatred from the human heart.

I found McCain's comments as portrayed here honest, sober, and realistic. And I think he would be the best choice out of the Republican field. I'll still be voting Democratic, even though my guy has dropped out.
  • David Brown
I'd take it down immediately and post a comment like this in its place:

"We apologize for the sophomoric film that was posted here. When we made it, we'd been up for hours, fighting for the survival of our nation, and it seemed funny at the time. After a nap, we looked at it again and realized it was just inappropriate. We'll try to get more sleep...and maybe have someone look at stuff before we post it."

John McCain is a total nutter and he totally hates the Kennedys, try digging up fotage on Mccain when he was being interviewed by Maria Shriver, I think it was taken back in the 80's, McCain was at an airport and there was the news media asking questions etc. and he zeroed in on Maria Shriver talkin some trash about her dad and her entire family. John McCain needs to go back to Nam for awhile maybe then he'll get his marbles back. He reminds me of a rabid dog ready to howl like Howard Dean did! Howl McCain! Howl!
Because I am SURE not voting for you dude!

Like the others have said.... drop the fictional clips. His words alone are enough.

I agree with TheOptimist. The comparison of McCain with Dr. Strangelove is a stretch that reflects poorly on Brave New Films. I have highly recommended your documentaries in the past, but now I am reluctant ... this video shoots your credibility right in the foot. This opinion is offered by someone who has no intention of voting for McCain or any of the GOP candidates.
  • Andy
Well, that's not Dr. Strangelove talking, that's General Buck Turgidson played by George C. Scott.
  • You didn't show Dr. Strangelove- just two other dudes from the movie. McCain wants to stay in Iraq, but so does Hillary. The corporate media has sidelined all the antiwar candidates. Maybe Nader can get a good message going- put some issues on the table, at least. I'm THROUGH voting for Democrats that are just not as bad as the Republicans. Look where my votes for Gore and Kerry got me- nowhere.
  • tritonpsh
Yep, who needs fictional madmen when we have the likes of John McCain, just the latest in an uninterrupted long line of illustrious hell-bent American leaders who think this country should spend spend spend trillions of dollars on our brutal military in order to bomb bomb bomb any nation that dares get in the way as we mass-murder and rape the planet for America the Beautiful. At least in Peter Sellers' time, we had the money. Not no more, Senator Melting Face, America is bankrupt.

John McCain is already senile, and just think about him running the country even for just four years. LOL
  • Bronya
I am afraid I have to agree with the general sentiments of other bloggers on this. Whether you agree with him or not about the use of the military being a substitution for an enlightened foreign policy, he's principled and has pretty much stayed true to his principles. He's truly hated by many far-right Republicans. That's always a good sign. :-) So, I agree that this film does more harm to our cause than good.
You may not agree with his stance on everything, but he crosses the aisle to work with Dems on issues important to all of us and he shouldn't be treated equivalent to O'Reilly and Fox.
  • onesmartgirl
Not one of your best, it is clever, sure, but not meaningful. This guy is scary in that he is like Bush (an actual scary menace), with all of the militaristic fervor and no viable platform on the environment, health care, social security, poverty, education and the list goes on. And he didn't even have the balls to stand up to the terrible lies and bashing Bush and Rove gave him when he tried to run before--he just fell back in line behind them like a dutiful dog. He doesn't have the backbone he pretends to have and he proved it then; getting other people killed doesn't take courage--creating meaningful change takes courage. Let's spend a little time exposing his record and lack of viable platform.
  • mikeT
I have to agree with most of the previous comments that this clip just doesn't work. We shouldn't do the same things the wing nuts do. McCain comes across as a reasonable, sober, tell you the truth even if you don't want to hear it guy. Usually like BNF productions - but not this one.
  • lovesurf
This guy is worst than Bush and if elected will ensure WW3 lickity split. I can't see this guy with his finger on the button. Can You? Scary. Remember that old Marine Corp saying , kill them all and let god sort them out. I think if elected we might just see that happen.
  • TheOptimist
Your journalistic approach to past films like "The High Cost of Low Prices" and "OutFoxed" are examples of high-quality documentaries. However, I am not happy with the route I see Brave New Films heading during the US presidential race. I viewed your video clip about John McCain. John McCain is a man who has been open to perspectives from both sides of our very divided isle in the senate. To paint him in the same light as the military character in Dr. Strangelove is cheap. As you know, name calling is the weakest attack someone can use in debate. That tactic belongs in the hands of Rush Limbaugh, not Brave New Films. This approach will only marginalize your very intelligent audience.
  • Jack Stidham
Poor John. Still suffering PTSS from 'Nam. Sadly, he was still a POW when the rest of our country realized we can never win by getting involved in someone else's civil war. Unfortunately, this is one we caused. Actually, it was the Commander in Chief we elected who caused it through stupidity or greed.
  • John Wiley
Bad, bad, bad. Please take this down before enough fence-sitters see it and decide to go for McCain. Whose side are you on??????
  • Joel Levine
I really want a better government. Part of the reason we have a bad government now is the lack of honesty by officials and, from the lack of that same honesty from the media and ignorant citizens.

We've all hated Fox News for their dishonesty. We should not tolerate the same dishonesty from BraveNewFilms.

This video is a mean-spirited hit piece and should be renounced. WE DESERVE BETTER. DO SOMETHING!
  • Doug Fraime
Madmen rule this world, that's a fact. John Mc Cain is just another war monger like the rest. Hero, my ass! Define that term. A hero is one with enough courage to know war only brings more war. A hero is one with enough balls to end war. A hero is one with enough guts to stand up for Peace and Peace only.
  • Rosa Fang
Wouldn't it be a lot more effective leaving the fictional movie character out of this extremely serious subject? Just by showing McCain's words of " There will be more wars...." is sufficient and much more credible.

    Rosa Fang
  • Whitney
Just realized it was Turgidson, not Strangelove on the bomb at the end, but you get the point.
  • Bart
i've liked a lot of your stuff, but sorry to say this isn't one of them. it's just not effective at all. i say scrap it and try again. it makes him look rational and practical, and makes bnf look kinda dumb. (just constructive criticism. sorry to be blunt.)
  • Dan Sheetz
This video is an insult to my intelligence. The answer to Russert's question was very obviously truncated mid-sentence, after the word "idea"... he did not say "it was a good idea" full stop. This is a deliberate and transparent attempt to misconstrue something he said. Good job dipping into the Fox News bag of tricks! Furthermore, and it appears to be demonstrating that McCain actually does tell the truth! Would you rather he tell people that we will be "greeted as liberators"?

Your team should spend less time making hyperbolic comparisons between real people and fictional characters, and more time actually investigating the records of the candidates and exposing them. Did you even bother to read up on McCain's policies? There are plenty of real, substantive reasons to question McCain as a candidate that even a cursory Google search will turn up.

This video is misleading, lazy, and counterproductive. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves for appealing to the lowest common denominator. Thanks for keepin' it shrill!
  • More like the MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE the Dr Strangelove.

I believe he has already been ACTIVATED!
  • bob arno
Hmmm. Although I am a very strong supporter of this website and these enlightening and informative shorts from Brave New Films (thank you,) and while I will be supporting a progressive democrat for the presidency, I find this McCain/Strangelove short to be... well nevermind the previous posts from MrGoodrant, Dustin, and Patty McGrath said it most eloquently.

Keep up the GOOD work Brave New Films. Shed light on the dark places and lets not attack.
  • Eric B
I see a flippantly gung-ho fictional character being compared to a real man who, whether you agree with his position or not, seems quite sincere and heartfelt in expressing concern for the American people. For this to work, you'd have to pick characters that are similar enough that people can believe it to some degree, but in this case the difference is jarring and disturbing. It reflects badly on the maker of the video, and actually makes me sympathetic towards McCain.

This isn't the first time you've put something up here and seemingly expected everybody to like it when in fact it was really crass and way off the mark, unless you're trying to look mean. This kind of stuff makes Democrats look bad. I think you need a consultant who can help you differentiate between funny and mean.
  • Maquisard
This is tacky and over-the-top, and it is likely to produce a backlash. It reminds me of the "mushroom cloud" scare tactics of the Bush administration. John McCain's own words are frightening enough without trying to draw in film clips of atomic bomb scenarios. Let us defeat the Republicans in a fair and dignified way without resorting to cheap, sophomoric tricks out of the Carl Rove manual.

I'm for Obama and would never vote for McCain, however I don't consider this to be a Brave New Film. Played to the independents and conservatives, it will make McCain look better than he is, and the makers of the film look ridiculous. PS. It's "fewer jobs", not "less jobs." Thanks for trying, but let's take the high road and let the facts themselves reflect the insanity of his positions on the issues.
  • Erin Deklotz
Not effective. Makes McCain look like a straigh-talker. I would use the clip of him saying we will be in Iraq for 50+ years.

There is a big difference between Arianna's comment and this. Besides the fact that it is poorly executed, it is likely to be counterproductive. The previous four posts speak for me as well.
  • pissedoffoldlady
I love it. It is exactly how I see McCain. He is an angry old man and would love to have control of the US Military--just like Chimpy.
  • Bob Fuller
Ok, try the Robert Duvall role in "The Apostle".McCain needs the evangelical crank AND those who believe we become safer when we kill people.
  • MWebster
Not a good one. It's just a poor analogy. Dr. Strangelove was a satire to begin with, so this just doesn't work. Think about going after McCain on issues that will get undecideds to turn against him.
  • dolores cordell
I'm a Demo and certainly no McCain fan, but I don't think this is very effective. McCain comes across as honest and straight-forward, even if one doesn't agree with his conclusion. He certainly doesn't look like a war-monger or a fanatic. I'd round-file this one.
  • tom
I agree with the fact that this is like a sledge hammer. And the Bomb Iran theme SHOULD BE USED over and over. This guy is bad politics!
  • Whitney
First off, I'm a big Barack Obama supporter and will not be voting for Senator McCain no matter who the Democratic nominee is.

That having been said, this video is drivel. The sinister music... the comparison between McCain and a fictitious caricature... the ridiculous part at the end playing a clip of McCain over a video of Strangelove falling to the Earth on a nuclear weapon... it's the exact same fearmongering you claim to be against on this website.

How are we ever going to have a real political dialogue with each other if we resort to demonizing the opposition? I too am disturbed by John McCain's "ardor for war", but heavy handedly comparing him to a fictional psychopath is counterproductive. This is why we need a president like Barack Obama who will inspire us all to be the best we can be rather than dragging the national political dialogue in the mud.

Sorry guys, but I can't get behind this. McCain has to talk tough on foreign policy for the Republican base, but when it comes to Republican candidates, he's the most liberal on domestic policy, best chance to stop American torture, and he's trying to be honest about the war on terror. When he says "more wars", I think he means smaller anti-terrorist operations. Nothing like Iraq.

Lighten up. It shows the how dead on the satire of 40+ years ago still is today. The more things change.
  • Brick
Take some of the posted criticisms seriously. If 10 people tell you you're drunk, go home and sleep it off!
  • MrGoodrant
This is a very unfortunate piece. The facile contrast between McCain's somber demeanor and General Buck Turgidson bluster only makes McCain look sober, humane, and even Churchillean, promising the nation only blood, sweat, and tears. This ad helps McCain. How about an ad with some substance instead?
  • Dustin
Sorry, guys, but this piece is like Fox News or Rush Limbaugh for lefties. I know that preaching to the choir has it's place in generating enthusiasm, but this piece just seems counterproductive.

I wish you'd use a scalpel and not a sledgehammer. You might persuade others to join your cause rather than just snickering amongst ourselves.
  • Patty McGrath
This ad isn't necessarily in good taste. I would not want there to be the possibility that peopple think we are mocking the injuries suffered by our soldiers by the cuts back and forth to the movie.

I think that the comment - that 'there are going to be MORE WARS' - is the most chilling. That's what needs to be focused on. This is his agenda - military action wherever 'called for'. We need a leader who can propose an alternative less disastrous for the human race! He's a legitimate war hero who can't see any solution other than war - any more than Rudy could see beyond 9/11.
  • Ray Kondrasuk
Weak,I felt. I have mixed feelings about McCain; I was uncomfortable with your portrayal of him in the clip.
  • Impeach for a clean election.

McCain is dirty part of the Bush Clan.

    Round em up.

Submit your impeach ballot today online, its easy and it could save many lives.

Do something for all the other Americans who are in a unjustified war.

    Cheers and Happy 420,

    Matt

Please don't forget to do a video including McCain's infamous "Bomb, bomb, bomb... Bomb, bomb Iran!" clip...
  • Tracygrrrl
    ::::applause::::

    Powerful film. Passing it on....
  • plooger
Well, he's actually channeling General Buck Turgeson, but the point's the same. Great video.
  • Well done! Couldn't capture the mental state better.
