What is this “Iraq war” charge on my bill?

Now is not the time for progressives to be silent. With Clinton and Obama battling each other we MUST start telling the story of McCain and his support for war.

We have been barraged with folks asking us to take action. And we have.

In less than week, Jason, Leda, Philip and Lissette put together these two fantastic short videos. And we have a major BNF strategic campaign to reach hearts and minds.

We need $100,000 immediately (like in the next week), so we can continue making these high impact videos, full-time, around the clock.

Can you chip in $50? We've got to start now. Make an investment here.

While we're using a little HUMOR in our opening effort, the war is deadly serious, the deaths to Americans and to Iraqis. We have seen and experienced the terrible pain and suffering. But our job right now is to reach millions of people who have erected emotional walls to any more painful news of death and destruction. So we went to the personal, the cost to each and everyone of us. And we did it by hacking the techniques of Madison Ave, a joke that gets the attention, and then makes the point.

We're very excited about this campaign, so excited that we wanted to get you involved now before we even have a proper website set up for it. Please post a comment below with your ideas for future videos, a campaign song, a cartoon, and additional ways to get the word out.

Let's keep working together to tell America about John McCain's vision for our country: Less jobs, and more wars. I've got a hunch Joe Scarborough is going to regret ever making that joke.

  • I think John McCain's health is a real issue with this election, especially since I vehemently disagree with everything Sarah Palin is for. I did not think there could be worse than Bush and Cheney, but here they are America, dumb down to the violent rants of McPalin and Sarah Palin.

I go for Obama because he wants the rich people & companies to pay more! I say screw all the rich. We don't need these useless people on our planet taking up our valuable space. Rich should fall and mid class to poor people should enjoy the equality to them. You see the answer is really simple. Get rid of money and get rid of the useless rich. Like Paris Hilton. She is really useless. can't believe so many of the dumb and useless people in this world get the spotlight! For anyone who wants to be rich, be stupid and go on camera!
  • jon
Why vote for anyone other than McCain when he's going to win anyways?! He is just another dejavu like Bush who had a couple good friends in power (in bush's case family) Who WILL cheat them in one way or another to be president. This is not conspiracy, you "WILL" see. And there's nothing "YOU" can do! McCain will get the same treatment as Bush did once he becomes president. Start stocking up the eggs!

Why not a picture of a large city blanketed with smog with the question: Is this pro-life or pro-death? overcoming our addiction to fossil fuels would be a pro-life step.
  • Ed
Hi chuck. Will there be any jobs left for Obama to "cut" when he gets there? The corporations are doing such a fine job running POLICY in this country already.
  • chuck
obama will cut jobs if he gets in by taxing the coraprtions to death then we will be jumping the boarder to get jobs in mexico working class needs to stop being brain washed by dems and realise we can only have jobs if there is an employer

therandymann How? should move to France?
I hope you was not reffering to me? A vet of dessert storm. One of the people that was in harms way. If my ideas were upsetting i do not see how. I aslo see no reason for anyone to have to leave this great country.I guess I do not understand the two post prior to this one. M.E.
  • Jimbo Terrino
One of the most effective spots I've seen, in terms of driving home the point in a way that might even make hard-core Bushies stop and think for a minute. Congratulations! I love this comment, just prior to mine: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, MOVE TO FRANCE!!!!!!!!!!! (Wow - can you get any drunker than that??)

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, MOVE TO FRANCE!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree we should not have gone to Iraq, but i remember dems as well as rep wanting this war. It was popular at the time. I think that we all were upset about 911. I also think that there are good people in Iraq. I also belive that noone wants to see our soldiers hurt or in harms way, but lets think about the people how are depending on us right now. If we leave asap what happens??? Really is everyone in Iraq going to kiss and make up??? I don't think so. Do the people over there who belive in us as a country even as brothers and sisters as human beings even if it where only a few people do they not deserve our help For as long as they need it? I know that some say they don't need the help, but who is saying that the comman man there or a politian? As far as John or Obama I'm not here or there about either one, but i can say that the bashing of the two is dumb and unfounded. I belive they both want the best for the country. I do not belive in all the consperacy theorys (sorry about the spelling). I belive that John would protect our country to the best he could. I also like the idea of a youg mixed man running our country. It would show us that we dont need the NAACP, or other so called minority groups. We are all AMERICANS. I have never met a euro american, a black american , or even a brown american. If you were born here u r an american. If I have offended anyone I'm not sorry. LOL It's just my opinion and does not cost or meen a thing. M.E.
  • Does anyone seriously think that we spent trillions of dollars in Iraq because we care so deeply about the people and their freedom? Are we a charity? It is all about oil and protecting American and British economic supremacy. I say 'we' in a loose sense, when it was planned years in advance and all the government needed to do was fool the public into thinking it was justified.
  • Matt Judkin
John McCain is a great man!! Both progressives and Conservatives are in agreement he has integrity and honor. So to read the bashing is gross!!
The war may have been wrong blah blah blah.... yes we ALL want it to end. But it is DONE, right or wrong we are there, and McCain is right we cannot cut and run.
I love it the ultra Left and the ultra right hate McCain. Now for certain I know he is the man for the job.
John McCain scares the Democrats and Republicans!
The politicians in Washington both Democrat and Republican are scared to death of John because they know he will not be a big spender and that all their earmarks and special interest money will be gone!!

Man never landed on the moon. This lie is how the Nixon administration got into power and Haliburtan was formed.

Now with the manufacturing of 911 the republicans have out done themselves.

Vote for Oboma or write in John F. Kerry. They know best for you and all of your people.

Condolezza Rice said that she would rather have 140K troops in Iraq dending off the terrorists on a foreign soil. Do you think there really are terrorists is this all a plot of the relatives of Richard Nixon?

Thank you and all of your people for putting the Democrats back in power!

    I am a democrat-- I AM a Democrat!

WE DON'T NEED IRAQ, WE HAVE CORN!

  • Robert Kunferman
Actually Rain, I just grew out of being greedy and shallow, and I did it at a young enough age, so that I would learn from it. This allows you to have a firm grasp of the obvious.

The Dems first embraced Chomsky, with the help of sorry assed Brits, so that they could make language constructs out of everything not worth relegating to words. Then never shut-up.

This lead to being able to haul working people, but mostly their dumb wives, into never ending conundrum language, by force. this also allowed them to force never ending conversations onto these normally taciturn people. Then they twisted their responses into Federal and State regulations that seemed based on logic. as long as you were dumb enough to not realize what they were stealing from you.

After this phoney lingual construct got deeply seated in our TV and all matters of wasteful, useless government, then to make them selves look useful, the government swine sold-out and began giving tax breaks to businesses and stealing only from the peasants until their families were destroyed, their propety was stolen, and their autonomy taken away.

Now the Dems turn their back on him. I have never read his tripe, nor do I need to . I know people.
  • Robert Kunferman
Rain: Chomski has been discredited by most business minded democrats, which today is most democrats that don't care about anything but voting their pocketbooks.
Almost all of the "resentment" and subsequent indignation in this country was caused by the democrats stealing from working people and telling them to wipe from left to right instead of the way they do it up and down in line with the crack. I found Mutal of O'Bamma's speech a little bit disturbing when that came up over and over.

You are worried about your pocketbook, and nothing else, like every other Democrat that I have met in my state.

There will be another corrupt set of standards met with the new "universal" health care policies that the skumbags plan to get kickbacks to their campaigns from through insurance companies.

I am all for the United States imitating and designing socialized medical provision using working models from Europe. I also am smart enough to realize that all the Dems want is another planned to fail policy that will give them and their dullard offspring another confusing and non-working, and intended to fail, insurance system to be employed by.

To do socialized medicine like the Europeans do requires long term thinking beyond your own gains manipulating the needy. So, lets say Mutual of O'Bama gets elected: The first year he appoints the clowns from overseas that he is told to appoint, gets new furniture, and has his lifestyle analyzed like the circus clown he is. The next year he claims the repubelichens are blocking legislation so he cannot move on socialized medicine.
The third year he continues to have parties and hang out in the whitehouse as a token jesture to buffoons in the Democratic party, claiming he cannot get past the repubes to help people. The fourth year is for re-election campaigns, so nothing done there.

To do socialized medicine correctly, you must copy the Europeans, and accept that insurance needs to be regulated out of the biz, and that doctor's fees need to be regulated. If any doctor doesn't want to practice medicine in the USA under those terms , they can find another country to practice in, and they will make even less money. The AMA is a Union without prevailing wage controls like other productive unions are required under the NLRB to practice under.

To make a long story short, like your ignorant attention span that still landed you a well paying, do nothing job in unkle swine's camp, to again give Americans false hope, while you lazy swine pack your pockets with our medical care money, is pure evil. Britain did it to their citizens because they are pure evil, but Europeans are civilized, taciturn, and not full of endless media drivel that confuses the public into not asking for criminal charges for government thieves.

To make health care work in this country we must get the insurance companies out of the country and back to England; we must seize their assets for all of the premiums paid by us baby boomers who now find that we cannot use the benefits because they have changed or been taken away; we must go after judges who took campaign money from insurance companies, so as to help insurance not have to pay the claims they contractually agreed to pay; mostly we need to limit doctor fees.

This government has more people per capita in government sector jobs than any of the countries that are in Western Europe, yet they can easily run a civilized healthcare system that is fair and doesn't require bribing democrats and repubes to make it unfair. Our country cannot even run FEMA. That didn't keep them from stealing my money to do so.

Because of idiots like Mutual of O'Bama, and the pure corruption in the democratic party, it would be impossible for us to have socialized medicine. Not that you care, because you just want the lucrative confusion and free do nothing paycheck from those freaks.

The paper tiger thing with getting our troops home is the biggest joke of all, because the New York Times and PBS were moree instrumental in selling this war to the ignorant American public than any other single person in politics, including Shrub. And it should be obvious to even a blind sow that the Dems unanimously voted to go to Iraq, and were paid off with more shallow treats to you all for doing so.

We are building the largest base in the world in Iraq right now, so that we can bring the troops home? NO, and any political mileage from the Iraq war/occupation gained by the dems is really fourth grade foolishness, which is the level that democrats are very good at keeping the discussion at, and getting graduate students to play along with it, so they can get their doctorate degree and get on the dole, despite their ignorance.

I see it everyday at my University: dummy down and claim all government is good, especially that which is most useless and harmful to the public. Then start the confusion of words that Chomsky would have appreciated.

I would go down the list of things gone wrong since our government grew out of control, but this is long enough. As soon as the Federal government became the largest contractor in every state, and the second largest contractor in almost every state became the state government, then integrity, accountability, science, SAT scores and all other measures of a civilized country began to deteriorate. Check the facts yourself, but it should be very very clear to even an impish weasel that refuses to be confused with facts.

BTW, the DNR clown you feel so compelled to protect also has no work to show for the past ten years, and when he goes fishing with his friend in the DNR, he talks about the environment, so he claims comp-time for that sunday and gets awarded more days off. His director is another offspring from a Madison family, and has no idea how to run anything, but she makes nearly 100 grand or more per year. Nice resume builder for her, very poor use of productive citizen's tax dollars.

Now, why are we sick of fixing your failures? Because I have to drive to Canada or use overseas doctors to get honest, non-insurance based opinions, yet I have to pay for your healthcare, so you can do.......nothing all day, and be taken care of from cradle to grave.

I do not need to read chomski, since he barely had a firm grasp of the obvious. Governs least governs best. leave us alone or fix the corruption, because you are failing to the point of no return, and the resentment created is all of your construct to deny.

I don't vote for anybody who gets free media name recognition 24/7. So I don't vote for anybody that our foreign controlled media picks for me. You have to, because work would kill you, while you claim to all others that "Work will free you". I think that is where you started with me anyway. Now go get a working job for a month, and come back and tell me what it would be like if you had to do that for thirty or more years, so that it would only benefit lazy liars stealing my property rights and my energy.
  • rain
Kunterman, I read Znet - Chomsky's thing. Glad you have all the answers. You want to be called Sensei, don't you? Probably dreamed of having a Manson cult somewhere. David Koresh wannabe.

Matt Judkin - The lesser of evils is obviously not McCain. Anyone with a slight moral compass can see that.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Reply to Rain:
If you really feel this way, then you should have felt that way before we went to war/occupation there. Instead, you shut your mouth, played along with the media clowns hired to lie to you, and acted like you could not express your honest opinion at your job.

Let me explain this important element: If we leave tommorro, there will be a bloodbath. If we leave a month from now, there will be a bloodbath. If we leave a year or ten years from now, there will be a bloodbath. most importantly, this sort of a bloodbath(s) will be much worse with sectarian violence than is the bloodbath they are in now, as you put it.

What does all of this mean? You should have opened up your cowardly piehole before this war started, taken your job loss for expressing an opinion counter to the cowardly Democratic party opinion of scared of terrorists that never existed. And you should have spoken out against the nutjobs that go to war, so they can turn a buck on rebuilding another country.

Instead, you wanted to sound informed by repeating lies you heard on the televison from Bill Moyers, jim lehrer, and all of the other clowns in CBS,NBC,and Fox.

Try thinking for yourself when the thinking is required, not after the problem is too far gone to realize any "success".
  • Rain
Fact is, nothing good has come out of the Iraq bloodbath. We are not winning anything, only turning on the genocide switch and looking the other way. Oil production has never even been close to pre-war levels, with a 12 year embargo even. McCain will keep us in this hellhole money pit of death. The attrocities of this unconsitutional illegal war is staggering. This "cut and run" mentality burned into our minds to make us feel unpatriotic is total BS. Fact is, none of the Dems or Repubs will get us out. Only Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, and Dennis Kucinich are the only ones dedicated to get us out. McCain is a Bush clone of his own choosing. He wants to pour more money into this total clusterF- of a war.

For the record, on Lou Dobbs tonight, its been documented Pastor Wright awarded Louis Farrakhan with a Lifetime Achievement Award for service to this church. When Obama was asked about this he shrugged it off saying Farrakhan got this award for charity work with disadvantaged youth. Obama lied.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Actually BLOW,

Your country is under a COUP.
You have a secret government not disclosing what it is doing, while it takes your money and gives it to British firms to rehire the corrupt politicians to take your money and give it to the British, who in turn give the politiicians money and airwave time.....etc., etc., etc.=circular BS sell-out routine.

It should be obvious that now we have gone beyond just being a colony of the British. they actually now are stealing from every orifice that we can be bled from.

They are in control of the NSA, the Federal reserve, and many if not all of your media outlets. We are forced to buy their insurance, or we get no medical care at all. We are eating drugs that Eli Lilly and other British firms have created, or stolen from other inventors, and having them tested on Americans dumb enough to prescribe them to their own citizens. They have also had our Navy collect ideas and private research from our Universities, and given that research to the NSA and its foriegn owners.

The victory in Iraq is the privatization of their oil, so that a new level of corruption within their puppet government can exist, so British petroleum and dutch Shell can exploit the corruption. Nothing new here, and nothing that benefits me in the least bit.

Our government is sleeping, shucking, avoiding facts, and counting their money that they were bribed with to keep it that way.

    As for Dan G.:
The Universal health care that the lame duck(too many skeletens in the closet to be effective for the little guys, unless their handlers want them to be) Democrats are talking about is going to be expensive and totally designed to fail totally.

Let me repeat this: Any Universal health plan that our corrupt government institutes, using East Coast insurance firms that are tools used to siphon money to the Britsh insurance firms that underwrite them, are going to be plans to FAIL. Intentionally FAIL, so that ten years from now you will be worse off, with poorer medical care, and less of your money. They plan to make the U.S. medical care system fail even worse than the British made their system fail. This way they can continue to underwrite and reinsure our failing system at very expensive rates. Notice how all of the British run media in this country, all tell us how Britain's socialized medical system has failed.

There are at least seven European socialized medical systems that work very well.

If "cradle to grave coverage is too expensive for the citizens, then it must be too expensive for our lazy cowardly politicians. They even get full medical coverage for the rest of their lives after they have sold us out to the British insurance whores. Funny how that works.

Finally. When you have paid into insurance your whole life in this country, like I have, and never used a dime of it, like many I know have not used their insurance, then you have been stolen from if you are not covered for that money you gave them to be covered by. Why aren't you people asking for that money to be recovered and used to benefit the Americans it was stolen from.

Stolen with the help of the politicians that took the bribes from them.

For both of you: Quit expecting anything from people that were created for you to vote for by a foriegn run media. Your playing along with the corruption that is ruining our country.

Savor this history, because you will now be living through the period that this country is under a coup. that is a once in a lifetime experience for many people.
  • JOE BLOW
There is no such things as "victory in iraq" its not the Americans war to win.
The only way we can afford these wars is to borrow money from the chinese..
we have become a net debtor nation, we have given away our industrial base and working to shrink our middle class...we have turned our backs on our own constitution.
McCain will continue us down the path of fiscal recklessness, economic stagnation, and invasions that are foolhardy and unaffordable.
Neither Obama or Clinton is truly the answer but the reality is that the American people are not ready to step away from empire building and smaller government. Both present more viable alternatives than McCain.
and "less jobs, more wars" is a simplified but accurate slogan to describe the outcome of McCain's policies. Remember that he is running on essentially the same policies as Bush.
We have entered a new phase of American history, a epoch of eternal war and hypermilatarism across the globe...
  • Dan G
Great point, great point. I honestly believe America should radically rethink it's foreign policy. Another great point is that both Hillary and Obama wish to introduce a Universal Health Care plan, while I think that's a marvelous plan, can American's afford it?

Compare Lenin killed 50 million christains to Chertoff's (head of FEMA) ability to kill 150 million americans. Compare the fifth column in Russia 1918 Bolshevik/Communist to today in America (our government on all levels). Lyrics for McCon's "Bomb Bomb Iran" campaign song, by "The Impeach Boys":

    Never learned to dance
    Don't know Finance
So I'm gonna change the subject-
    It's my campaign's last chance:
I'll bomb Iran, bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran
I'll bomb Iran, bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran
    There'll be Bombing and Baptizing
    More Democratizing
In Iran, Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran

    Bid Saddam adieu
    Killed some commies too
    Ahmadinejad
    I'm a coming after you
I'll bomb Iran, bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran
I'll bomb Iran, bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran
    There'll be Bombing and Baptizing
    More Democratizing
In Iran, Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran

    Commander Guy McCon
    Is marching to Tehran
Their Mullahs will be chanting, "Long Live St. John"
He Bombed Iran Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bombed Iran
He Bombed Iran Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bombed Iran
He came a Bombing and Baptizing
    True Democratizing
In Iran, Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran

Why has Mccain, the "great patriot", not signed on to back the new GI Bill in the Senate which is co-sponsored by his GOP pals Warner and hagel. Today, only about 60%-70% of the costs of college for the Iraq & Afghan enlisted troops have the bennies available to them to go to college under the bill, and those that are Reservists and/or Ntl. Guardsmen, even if they have served multiple tours in combat, have literally no bennies available to them. Any McCain backers care to explain please?

Poor Larry - BBBBBBBlah blah blah... all he can do is name call, LOL how pathetic......

    Because Larry can't read -

This is a all volunteer Military num nuts!!The guys who volunteer to join the service are NOT forced. Pull your head out of your ass!! The military is about two things and two things only. Killing human beings and destroying material objects. If you volunteer and carry weapons you can pretty much figure that that you just might have to kill or get killed it kind of goes with the job. If you again voluntarily join on your own free will, you also have to expect you might just get killed or injured. Simple solution Larry doesn’t join. Be a teacher, fireman, nurse... You pretty much know this going in that the military is about war!! Can't complain and bitch when the Commander and Chief orders that you now have to do what you were trained to do. Totally different when you are drafted, you don't have free will.

John McCain is a hero!! He is not going to tell you what YOU want to hear. Obama will tell you what you want to hear and stroke your head... in the end we cannot leave Iraq... it would be a HUGE mistake. LOL... Reading all the conspiracy theories on this website by all you liberals i.e. - neocon's, Halliburton, new world order, Bush oil, blah, blah, blah... lol No real US citizen takes you wacky fringe groups serious... NO ONE!!! lol No wonder the democrat party struggles, its got wacky lefties in it.. The independents will continue to stay away and Obama will lose.
  • Roy Henneberger
Both videos would be good if “W” was up for reelection. A majority of voters already agree the war in Iraq was a mistake. Since McCain is the most likely challenge to the Democratic nominee, a video showing McCain’s “Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran” speech is more likely to pull my dollars away from the Obama campaign.

It is difficult to even know where to start after reading the comments already posted. Such hate and divisiveness will not help solve the incredible problems we face. I have felt for a great while that a new day is dawning in this world, a better day, but it will not dawn until after a great calamity which wakes up mankind to our foolishness of hatred and endless war. Human history has been a steady march of progress and improvement in many ways, but it is primarily reactionary. Thus, we should expect more of the same for the time being. What will we react to next, what will cause us to realize that we are all in this together, that war and conflict enrich the elite at the expense of the rest? If you cannot imagine a world at peace, then it is beyond possibility. So, what will it take to cause humanity to be able to imagine that which it must eventually have to survive? What amazes me most is the lack of possibility people feel about this concept of peace. Human's have an amazing gift for imagination, you can imagine virtually anything, but we don't seem to pocess the imaginative ability to see our world at peace. This is a very sad reality? So, the question that I ask anyone who reads this is: can you imagine a world at peace, and if not, why not?
  • Larry from Ohio
Matt Junkin is an complete fool!!

Pray for Atheists, it's fun to watch them twitch!

I KNEW not to pay too much attention to this site. It starts with inaccuracy from literally the top of the page. The F-16 DOES not have two angled dorsal fins on the bottom of the fuselage behind the intake as pictured. Oh well, being Liberal means never having to be accountable for accuracy...as proven here. Hey, when we pull out of Iraq and the killing fields start again, please don't bother screaming about all the poor foreigners. If you don't care now, why care then?

A great man? Integrity and honor? hahaha
    You're a brainless, gullible fool.
  • Jack
Progressives, Conservatives, and Independents agree on one thing: Mccain is a serial flip flopper with ZERO integrity.

He was againt the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy b/c he knew they would create huge decifits, but now is for them even through they have created HUGE deficits.

He was for AMENESTY for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, but now calls for building a HUGE FENCE and CRACKING DOWN hard on them.

He was against right wingers like Jerry Faldwell, calling them "agents of intolerence", but is now sucking up to them as their bitch lap dog.

He said the war in Iraq would be "easy", and then when it wasn't, claimed to have been someone who said it would be hard, while railing against those who said it would be easy (like him!!).

He claims to be against corporate lobbyists, but takes corporate jets with them across the country, and has them running his campaign, not to mention being involved in once of the biggest lobbying scandals in the history of this Country!

Oh yea, and he cheated on his 1st wife with someone 17 years younger to get his hands on her family money.

Mccain is a fraud and a disgrace!!!

    McCain 2008!
  • alan
    to Mr. Ellis,
You must be blowing Bush, your first premise, the war is justified. Where did you get that propaganda. Go join in a heartbeat, and find out the Iraqi's don't want us their to kill their people, destroy their country and steal their oil.
We love America, but not the asshole who lied to start this preemtive invasion. He has no plan of ever ending it, and I'm sure your buddy McCain will solve it with blood and another 100 years. Finally, whatever happened to Osama, and Afghanistan. The people are dying at a rate that is unspeakable. Finally, this war had nothing to do with 9/11, it was planned before it, and we are the insurgents. You couldn't find Iraq on the map if you had to, go read MY Pet Goat.
  • Doug
Hey Andrew Ellis, how about you pay for Mccain's 100 year war out of your own pocket you F'n douche bag? WHERE ARE THE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS COMING FROM TO PAY FOR THIS WAR??? THE AMERICAN TAYPAYER, THAT'S WHO!!!!

WE DO SUPPORT THE TROOPS!!!! THAT'S WHY WE DON'T WANT THEM SERVING BACK TO BACK TO BACK TOURS OF DUTY THEY WAY THEY ARE RIGHT NOW UNDER YOUR BOYS BUSH AND MCCAIN, OR GETTING SHAFTED BY THE FEDERAL GOV'T WHEN THEY COME HOME MAIMED.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE BRING OUR TROOPS HOME??? YOU'RE LETTING PR STATEMENTS BY TERRORIST GROUPS DETERMINE OUR FOREIGN POLICY YOU FRIGGIN JACKASS??? THEY'RE GOING TO CLAIM "VICTORY" NO MATTER WHEN WE LEAVE, WHETHER IT'S TODAY, OR A 100 YEARS FROM NOW. GUESS WE BETTER STAY IN FOR A HUNDRED YEARS AND BANKRUPT THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE SOME PUNK IN A CAVE SAID THEY'LL CLAIM "VICTORY" IF WE LEAVE. THAT'S F'N WEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DID YOU SUPPORT REAGAN WHEN HE PULLED OUT OF LEBENON, ASSHOLE??? DID THE TERRORIST "WIN" IN THAT CASE AND WAS AMERICAN RAISING THE WHITE FLAG BACK THEN??? WHERE WE ALL THE TERRORIST ATTACKS IN AMERICA RIGHT AFTER REAGAN PULLED OUT OF LEBENON???

YOU REALLY NEED TO TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS PUNK.

    Reply to PlacebosRoy:

Keating was the only guy charged for silverado behavior that the Bush family was never charged with.

Keating was charged because he was the only guy telling the truth that our economy was building using savings and loan loose criteria. Keating was doing exactly what all others were doing in every major city in the USA: Constructing buildings that were near worthless and not to be filled(like the twin towers were never used), by using taxpayer dollars, then the idiots in the government sold them, without any appraisals, to Arab investors for ten cents on the dollar.

Keating was the pile of dirt that wanted Hustler magazine shut down, so I have no sympathy for him. He started out right, but he like they, just got too strong.
  • Robert Kunferman
    Answer to Bob:

I don't vote for either of the two parties, so go back to your do nothing government job and sit secure that your lazy ass will be taken care of from "Cradle to grave". Did I spell cradle correctly?

Clinton did nothing for the economy, just like the other weasals cannot. One thing he did do though was to deliver tons of vaccines to third world countries that gave them remarkable increases in autism and assberger's syndrom. Not spelled correctly either, but you'll get over it afterall, you will only go to work one half day this week.

Other than that, it was Bill Clinton himself that was constantly claiming that he didn't do anything. ;)

Anyway, think up some original comments and commentary for yourself once in your life or just be quiet and stupid all by yourself and along with your TV. Vote your clowns in, then go back to sleep, like you do all day.
  • Martin Smith
I used to have respect for McCain but clearly he's adopted the Clinton Mantra of do whatever's necessary to get into power. I like to see a commercial where every politician (democrat and republican) who buckled under to President Cheney and voted for the war (or authorization for the war) dressed in prison attire. What's sad is voices that really call for change like Ralph Nader, Mike Gravel and yes even Ron Paul are shut out of the debate. I quit the democratic party after the vote on Iraq and if no viable candidate steps forward in 2008 I intend to vote for "None of the Above". There's an old addage that says "clean up your own house before you go knocking on your neighbors door." It's just as important to reform the democratic party as it is to oust the Republicans.
  • Here's the urgent warning America needs. A vote for McCain is a vote for 4 more years of Bush - war, death, destruction, and terminal bankruptcy. Rise up America, let's bury the GOP forever!!
  • Great video about a tragic subject. I loved the fact that the woman in the third video was packing her possession to move out. Lots of Americans will be moving out of their homes if the Bushies continue in powor.
  • PlacitasRoy
S & L, Charlie Keating, Keating 5, Yessir that McCain is a real fine fella.
  • Bob
Dear Mr. Kunferman - At least, Mr. Clinton left office with several billion dollars in surplus. Do you honestly think McCain and his war-mongering attitude will do that? We cannot afford McCain or any other Republican. Do you realize that this country is bankrupt and the only thing that keeps us afloat is the goodwill of the Chinese? We are only a decision away from being less than a third world country. You need to THINK! I'm sure the Clintons and, for that matter, any politician, has some dirty laundry hidden somewhere, but dirty laundry is nothing compared to the crap McCain and the rest of the Republican party bring to the table.
By the way, idiology ia spelled: ideology. Nitwit!
People who think McCain is anything thing more than a shill for the neocons are not thinking with their brains!
Of course, that's nothing new with Americans, is it?
  • Bob
I don't have that much money. Sorry.
  • Robert Kunferman
One thing that you will soon realize about McCained, that you can never realize about the other two mindless dolts in the Dem's camp, is that he has a clear background check. The other bums will do exactly what Bill Clinton did in office. Nothing at all.

Bill, Hillary, and O'BamBam all have enough dirty laundry on them to make sure that they are lame ducks the day they walk into office.

Not that anyone in washington wants them to make a difference, nor do most Democrat voting people, since none of the Dem's constituents can even state what they want their clowns to do for them. Except give them bigger government for the sake of bigger government(Wisconsin economics).

Bigger government is great for those who need work where you would not be missed when you are not there nearly all year.

Nader has had his carcus picked clean just like McCained has had his carcus picked clean. The dirty Dems will be lame ducks the minute they hit the whitehouse.

Vote for people who can make decisions based on their idiology, not whether they will end up in jail if they bight the British hand(s) that feed them.

You heard it here first, nitwits, so don't act like you were too stupid to realize this later.

The video of this was on the internet at one time - I can't find it now - but this is a great example of how out of touch mccain is with everything. I hope someone can find the video and get is back in front of the public.

He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona.
Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer.
“I’ll take it!” one man shouted.
McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends.”

Notice that Romney quit when he was in second place. Strange isn't it? The delegates will select Clinton; the super-delegates that is. Where did these super-delegates get off; where did they come from; who elected them? Should the people select a contender or a bunch of politicians? The "War" started out to get Osama and we shifted over to Hussein. We spent 70 million on an embassy we were never asked about and an accounting system that is broke. How much is Cheney’s buddies Halliburton soaked us for, without any accounting of what we really paid for? If it is about oil, Hmmm Exxon profit $46,000,000,000; it has always been about the money. War = Money; Kennedy got killed for attempting to withdraw from Vietnam, War = Money.
  • Leonie
I just received 2 e-mails re. Obama Hussein Barack. Is he or is he not a Muslim? Why doesn't the popular press question the implications to that question? They were quick to question Romney. We do not need a 3rd term of Bush with McCain.

If you read some books about Bush you know he went into Iraqe for the oil and nothing else at his VP's and others' urging.

After watching Iraq for Sale Encore of Robert
Greenwald's film, what an eye opener of what our
so called government is doing and we of civilians
are kept away from the truth. It's all about MONEY
McCain is not good....who is?? The media brainwashing us every single day of who is best
for the Presidency. We need someone who will end
the war, clean out the House and put new people in
our government Remember: We the People, By the
People and For the People, not the BIG companies
who makes the money and works with our government
We must vote for the very right person to do the
best job ever or we will end up another 1929
Depression for sure if not already

    Conservatives hate McCain!

By endorsing him, Mitt has shown his true colors as a political opportunist.

It's time for conservatives to wake up. Mitt was never in it for conservatism or smaller government. He doesn't have a principled bone in his body. He was in it for #1

Now there's only one conservative left running. Either vote Ron Paul, or end up choosing between 'Republican' McCain and Democrat McCain.

It's not too late. McCain can't win a brokered convention. In fact, no candidate can win a brokered convention, but at least Ron Paul delegates would push for a conservative who will balance the books!

Stop McCain from receiving any more delegates! He needs 1191 to win, and thus far only has around 250. THIS ISN'T OVER!!!

Won't it be a great day when we have to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber? Money for Schools, not for war! Our government has its priorities upside down!

McCain is a man with a hundred faces. I was amused to see him jubilate over the safe return of his son from Iraq. Does he not think other parents would be more than happy to see their sons and daughters back from the same war zone timely and safely? Why is he such a war hawk?
We do not want another war monger in the White House.
  • Bob o' D Beach
Well done subject. Now if Buffett, Gates, all Citizens with more wealth than is spendable in their lifetimes would begin a new movement to absorb a higher percentage of the DEBT, the IRS could be fired, disbanded, and WAR would still be with us. Flat Tax the answer? Nope,it would require extermination of all life on Earth to stop territorial wars. Bugs do it, fish do it, plants and trees do it, on and on. We humansdo it best and our sense of being too destructive awakens some to cry out "No More War". hogwash worthy of the hysterical denouncers of the left/right/red/blue/white/on and on they hate you.

We need to kick out those who would finance wars the Federal Reserve and the IMF. They are the true evil doers; enslaving us all and dismantling the US middle class every time they print more money to pay for the wars. Do you get the picture? With out them we wouldn't be at war creating more customers for them and enslaving other countries by propping up the currency.

Most educated people know a sound bite when they see it; all the newspapers use them daily.

If the Internet can truly reach out to everyone then it's time to start a political portal dedicated to factual representation of the issues and political gamesmanship of each candidate - something like Wikipedia.

It's time to change to a pragmatic approach.

Are you people kidding me F**K the grammar. GET THE POINT!! Damn little minds. Get over yourself.
  • LetsAllWakeUp
The irrelevant grammar debate about the slogan is ludicrous. It highlights what's wrong with this country...people focusing on superficial crap instead of the real issues.
  • Michelle
all this fuss about grammar...if holding an individual responsible for their use or misuse of the English language is a priority, then somebody please explain to me how our current President of the United States is George Walker Bush. Additional insight as to how he was able to get re-elected would be appreciated..."if you don't fix the grammar---I won't get involved" Hey MOI, how bout you get involved by first FIXING THE GRAMMAR?
  • Howard
Dear Condescending Huffpo Person Who Wrote the UPDATE: Yes, "Less Jobs, More Wars" has the snappiness of a campaign slogan, but it's nevertheless a bad one. I've worked as a TV writer for many years, and it's what we used to call "too hip for the room." It's too narrow a reference. People who don't get it -- and I suspect there'll be many -- will just think it's dumb. Instead of being smug and defensive you should think about cutting your losses and starting over.
  • Mark Bernadiner
It was democrats who put America in jeopardy and under decades of attacks of islamofascists. It was leftists, who destroyed ability of FBI and other America-protecting agencies to keep America safe. Now we have a chance to face a new wave of misery and destruction, if democrats take the WH.
  • Bob
The Viet Nam War was a total sham that wasted 50,000 American lives. We had no business over there and we did no good. The POW's who lost the best years of their lives and were savagely tortured did so for a war that never should have been.

The Afghanastan war should have been - it was different - we needed to be there but alas the Iraq war is nothing more than another Viet Nam. A quagmire that should never have been - squandering precious American lives with no end in sight.

War just for the sake of war is not good nor patriotic and anybody who supports every war nomatter what - is a fool.
  • Donald Brubaker
Something is morally wrong with a system in which the decision-makers about war are the profiteers of war. If it is a patriotic duty for soldiers to risk their lives for freedom and their country, then why is it not too much to ask the war-profiteering corporations to sacrifice their profits as a patriotic duty. The current system would consider that idea absurd. To add insult to injury, they want tax breaks on top of it all. And of course, all this must be absorbed by the average tax-payer. The incentives for war are all wrong!!!
  • jason
The men that were POWs during Vietnam endured things unimaginable to most people. John McCain was given the chance to leave hanoi because of his father's rank and yet he stayed. Will, when you don't go out of your house for fear of being blown up then you will know fear. Americans can not conceptualize fear as the people of Iraq. Will, yo can do, for the most part, anything you want to with you life. You can choose to work, to speak out against the governmentm and to live you life on your own accord. Those freedoms were there before President Bush and they are still in place now. So I say to you sir that your freedom has not been taken away in any form.
  • alexander elias
I haven't read the entire thread of comments, so somebody may have made this comment already, but we are talking about a war, here. The cost to the United States has been high, but the cost to the Iraqis has been catastrophic. There is a concensous growing around the studies that suggest 1 million Iraqis have been killed in just 5 years. Nobody disputes that some 4 million have been displaced.

I am not pushing proper grammar for its own sake, but using improper grammar as some sort of inside reference to a person as insignificant as Scarborough is just too glib.

We need serious, articulate people to fight back against the propaganda, sloganeering and doublespeak of the Bush Administration. Tongue-in-cheek media references really diminish the impact of your message.
  • Howard
War hero? Enough of that rubbish. McCain flew 23 bombing runs in a war of aggression, dropping bombs on cities, villages, men, women and children. He's a war criminal.

you people have no idea what it is to go to war and sacrifice yet you judge when you get half truths about the war. you have no idea of all the good Marines and Soldiers have done in Iraq. They stand for what few of you will ever truly understand because you have never had it taken away; FREEDOM.

Insane McCain is a war criminal for bombing civilians in Vietnam, a traitor for violating the UCMJ, Uniform Code of Military Justice and didn't even protect his family from abuses and insults of the Bush gang in 2000. He's already declared war for 100's of years and not even elected or nominated. He's a cold war relic. It was the cold warriors mentality that created Iraq and which squanders our national treasures of war dead, wounded and tax monies. We don't need no more stinkin' cold warriors. He's the most likely Republican to contract the Reagoon Republican Alzheimer's which proved that a Republican president doesn't need a brain or a mind, and they prefer it that way.

Years ago my son, now deceased, was mentally handicapped; and he saw through GW Bush. When saw the new 'presidunce' on TV, he asked, "Mama, what's wrong with his eyes?" He caught me flat-footed; I answered, I don't believe he has a soul.
The only things I've seen in "the windows to the soul" of GWB: arrogance, bewilderment and malice; that's all there is.
If a young man with the mind of a ten year old could see, this thing for what he is, then why were millions, including so many in high office, fooled and cheered for the blood-letting done in our name? Just asking. Thanks for all you do; you help give us hope.

Well, the US has a responsibility to make sure Iraq will be safe. The US government decided to go to war, and now it's their job to stay there, untill they're sure there's not another dictator coming to take over the country.

It took 44 years for Germany to be 100% independent from Soviet, UK, France and US. Just imagine how long it will take in Iraq, with the current situation.
  • re my blog of ~6hrs ago:
So, to McCain's notion that we might stay in Iraq forever, he should explain to us how that will win the "war on terror" as they like to call it, assuming that's his objective.

None of the candidates still in the race is even talking about what we need to do to end terrorism and secure our peace. I imagine that's because they don't know how.
  • The Democrats aren't confronting 30+ years' worth of Republican propaganda (read The Republican Noise Machine by David Brock.) They aren't confronting 8 years' worth of neocon propaganda (world is dangerous and we need to be always afraid, so open your wallets for infinite wars.) They aren't confronting 7 years' worth of impeachable offenses by BushCo. They are allowing the Media Monopoly and the National Security State to call the shots and there is no candidate (remaining that we hear from) who will resist them.

So that is the problem: overcoming 30 years' worth of propaganda DESPITE a pro-war media monopoly, and the Democrats offer no solution. Obviously, the people have to reform the Democrats from without, or we will have NO FUTURE in this country or the world.
  • Lorena Palazzolo
Who is voting for this man? Really! It is unbelievable that this man (McCain) is getting ahead in the polls, he is a monster and a Bush clone! What is happening to this country that after all we've been through with Bush, McCain wants a shot at the White House? Are we asleep at the wheel? We should be going on the street in mass to protest against this warmonger McCain! And the media is portraying him as winning over Ron Paul and Hucklebe? Pray to God that McCain doesn't get any farther because that will really be the end of this Country! Get together and protest, there really are rigging the polls and committing fraud, proof of it is McCain still on the ballot! PLEAAASSEEE

the war on iraq should have ended already.
the amount of people and soldiers that have been laid to rest is far greater than they should be.
the money brought in by war protestor's, should be used as improvments to the american economy, for what dignity we have left. Due to all these judgements this government has laid upon us. Will mark our forheads for generations to come.
all these planes making cordinates in the sky to tell apart neighborhoods, to display them as battlefields for new world order. the military has abused it power, and now abused their country.
Instead of increasing the peace and asking questions about this canada/usa/mexico open border trade, we have fallen into this diverson of the war leader's plan.

    and soon, man will fall.
  • Kaeley
I agree that the McCain comment of 100 years more war and the newscaster's comments should start the adds. Then get into the human response. You would then see the contrast right away and I think some of his supporters would listen if they heard him first.
  • Jim Hurley
The war in Iraq ought to be paid for by reducing the military budget elsewhere. For every billion dollars we spend lets cut out one of the special air attack planes, for every billion lets eliminate one nuclear weapon, we don't need those anymore. we could pay for John McCain's war easily by reordering the military budget so it buys useful weapons. rifles and armored Humvees not tanks. Lets eliminate those expensive things the army and air force and navy like so much and see how long McCain's war lasts. And lets call it McCain's war from here on
    Jim
  • Eva Periut
The "war" will not go away if we let the powers that be maintain that this war is for freedom and we are better off because of it. Either we are the most ignorant of Americans or the most cruel not to care enough for what we are doing in the middle east, along with the terrorist we create. We have to be activist on the street, being online, does not change the world, I don't think. Since the internet less demostrate on the streets that is what I see.
  • Kevin Fulton
There is no such thing as an Islamic Terrorist. That is like calling a Christian a Christian Terrorist.
  • Paul Keleher
THE "WAR ON TERROR", no matter where it's fought, CANNOT BE WON MILITARILY! PERIOD. Terrorism will not go away until the root causes of it are addressed. I believe what drives Islamic terrorists and causes millions of Muslims around the world to turn the other cheek to their murderous ways is the daily hoarding of resources by so very few in the face of the desperate economic conditions endured by huge masses of people throughout the third world. In the 21st century this exploitation is perpetrated primarily by western capitalist corporations who in their world-wide quest for profit seek to exploit any situation they can take advantage of if it will enhance their bottom-line. As long as corporations place the profits of their shareholders above everything else, terrorism will continue.

But ultimately corporations must bow to the will of the people they serve (and attempt to exploit) or they won't survive. What this implies is that if we can exert will to require corporations to behave differently, we can end terrorism by changing the purpose, place and role required of corporations in American society from one whose primary object is to exploit the entire world in their own self-interest to one that serves balanced interests that are in harmony with the needs of the world. The "do-gooder" behavior we presently see being touted in the PR campaigns of some large corporations cannot be trusted and will NOT solve the problem, because although they may (or may not) actually be striving to benefit others, their primary motive to extract as much personal gain out of every situation they engage with remains unchanged.

The sad irony is that most of those we have elected to do our will for us (congress and the White House) have already been bought by corporate interests and will not make the change we need. Is there anyone in Washington who is not in some corporation's pocket?

The war in Iraq is just another of what will be endless wars that we will never win because for every terrorist we kill, 10 more rise up to take his place. Terrorists have no issue with freedom or our politics, but they are intent on threatening our security until we stop trying to dominate the world economically.

It's no accident that the 9/11 terrorists hit the World Trade towers, not the Statue of Liberty.

I would prefer a more positive approach to the fact that we as Americans are spending too much on a military budget. Why not get creative and show how we as Americans can BENEFIT from the monies if we spent the monies on: a FREE MEDICAL INSURANCE THAT INCLUDES ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND FREE EYE AND DENTAL CARE; FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION; SOCIAL SERVICES; ETC, ETC. THAT, would inspire people to donate, rather that bring up bad feelings. Aloha, from Maui; EG

Stop listning to the TV Ron Paul is blacklisted google that and see how they do not tell you the truth. Vote Ron Paul it is our last chance to not lose all our freedom
I am 56 and have never seen anything like what are elections are like now. They decided who we are going to vote for and force it on us so they can keep us under their control
Is this what you want for your kids check out Ron Paul 2008 and see how he could save our country.
  • Margot Bloomfield
These are good, and I have a few suggestions. Instead of saying "pssst, do something", be concrete and say what the obvious options are. Also, in one of these clips, have a child in the background listening, then ask their parent the question: "When I grow up will I get this bill too?", or "When I grow up will I have a house and a job?" This will make the point even stronger.
  • Wendel
    Wage War on the Warmongers!!
  • Get Over It
You grammar freaks really do need to take a break.

LESS JOBS are what the public understands.

We might not be grammatically correct all the time, but we DO understand what the hell it means....

    Get over it.

Now, lets get down to brass tacks. This video, while good, is NOT going to make me Pssst Do Something. It simply is not compelling enough.

Compelling would show the thousands of dead already....people this war has killed.

Compelling would show the hundreds of thousand MORE the next 100 years war McCain projects.

Maybe paste his face over the killing fields. HUH!

I used to like McCain, then out of his mouth popped another 100 years of war....WTF????
  • Elizabeth
I like this. People talk like this so get over it. Down with McCain!!!!
  • Marge Wood
Right now the remaining states are waiting to vote in primaries. Get together and put together resolutions that will start at the precinct conventions and go to the county and state conventions to be discussed and possibly put on ballots. Put together some resolutions. And btw I like these movies just fine. I'm not sure folks will relate to the statement about the charge; I mean WE DON'T EVER SEE IT. Do we?
    Marge
  • Lee
You saved the best for last! Truly, we are in for a lot of warmongering if McCain gets in.

FOR THE SAKE OF FREEDOM.....VOTE RON PAUL 2008..
  • Michael DeValve
Thank you - solid ads. I liked the first and third best, even though I empathized with the music teacher.
  • Everyone seems to be a critic of the "American Language". I saw three different spots (commercials) with three different people. Not all of us are the same.

To be correct, the war ended in 2003. We have been supporting a civil war by continuing to occupy a sovereign nation. We are committing genocide in Afghanistan, and the world sits while some secret society manipulates a military that is hell bent on preventing other nations from using the nukeliar (nuclear) weapons using nuclear weapons.
We are looking at sectarian violence between the U.S. and the world. "Christians" are supporting killing the Muslims. Why doesn't the U.S. petition God to stop making Muslims? (Would that be a violation of the pro life movement?)
  • Matt
The ads seem clever and could be effective. The only way to know is to test them. Get a small sample (focus group) of the types of people being targeted, run the ads, and ask insightful questions about what they think. Ignore supporters who guess what they think those people might think.
  • Fix the grammar. We can't use these videos like this.
  • Laura
Good ad. Works for me. As for it being "less grammatical" -- hey, that's how real people talk, folks. Most of you who are uncomfortable with this language are college educated. Which is not the case for most voters.
  • Stephen
The ads don't work for me, and the bad grammar does distract. Let's face it -- John McCain is running counter to what the majority of the American people want. Most Americans know how we were lied into this war, most Americans know it is sucking us dry, and most Americans want out. How could most Americans possibly want a President McCain who believes we could be there for another 100 years? It's a clear choice. Don't belabor the issue with lots of numbers.
  • maestrala
If the point is to coax independent or swing voters over to the Democratic candidate, then I think these ads will be ineffective.
I agree with previous comments pointing out that McCain's likely voters don't look much like the actors employed here, but more to the point (which is NOT the friggin' grammar, for pete's sake),
I don't think would-be McCain voters are likely to detect the irony in these ads. The ads are too cerebral, over the heads of most McCain voters.
Instead, I'd lead off with McCain's call for 100 more years of war, making clear with subtitles and visuals that his blurted response to a question about the end of the Iraq war lets voters see the REAL John McCain, Trigger-Happy Warmonger. Then play the Joe Scarborough comment. Shine a bright light on both these idiotic statements, then go from there.
The fact that it's Joe Scarborough's own illiteracy that has provided the inspired tag line "Less Jobs, More War" is absolutely delicious and should be played up.

And that's enough irony for even the dullest of our right-leaning brethren.
  • Gail Sredanovic
Sorry, but I don't think these particular ads are effective.
    1. The "bad guy's" voice is too persuasive
2.The line from McCain goes by too fast- I am not even very sure what he said--and its relevance to the info about the costs of the war is too abstract and the linkage is not made effectively.
Good try. Close, but no cigar.
Maybe some focus group said this was an effective approach, but here's my advice:
I'd rather see harder hitting images
    parents with empty shopping carts
kids eating at the same table with much older ragged homeless
kids staring at empty libraries or gyms.
    Patients in hallways on gurneys
    Dilapidated bridges
All these things are happening. So dramatize them.
Also it would be helpful to have the actors look like the folks who are most likely to vote for McCain.
    Hint: they are probably white.

    You get the idea.
  • Charles Rosaly
I wont pay anything for a bullet to kill anyone!
  • Seth
It's not just McCain, but Obama, Clinton, and Huckabee that want to keep our warmongering going for generations to come... wake up people... Ron Paul 2008...
  • Mike
Great idea, but flip it on its head and parcel out the total war effort into the number of Iraqi families at the start of the war (I don't know what the exact figure would be, but:
"Mr. and Mrs. Iraqi -- say we were to pay you $300,000 over the next five years, would you work to topple Saddam and fight the insurgency on your own? Would you finish the job?"
I wonder just how much better we could have made the lives of the average Iraqi family by spending all that money _on_ them rather than around them.

Also, all the "Bread and Circus" comments below are right on the money.
  • SandyA
Hey Folks, try to regard the "less jobs" statement for what it is ...an expression used by Joe Scarborough to explain McCain's policy perspective... it is an actual quote. If the producers of this effort wanted to be exactly correct, they should say lessjobs(sic)...etc. I am as much of a grammar freak as all of you, but I get it!
  • Miriam
The "less jobs" thing is a huge distraction. I'm sorry, but I'm a lawyer with a journalism degree, and I can't pay attention to the substantive content when the "less jobs" thing is grating on me like nails on a blackborard. Plus, it makes it look like the producers are illiterate.
  • I basically like the ads, my suggestion is that the "people" in them need to look and sound more like the possible McCain voters. They are more likely to be white men and women with a midwestern or no accent.
  • Steve Allen
Love 'stiffjake's' reference to the movie Silverado. One of my favorite two-word lines in Silverado is 'Bad Luck' as delivered by Kevin Kline's character. Bad Luck is one way to explain all the s___ coming down.
  • David
I agree: Change the name to "Fewer Wars." Your use of such bad grammar is just grating, and distracts from the message.
  • Cameron
I have to agree with a recent post. I'd be kind of embarrassed to put my name to such a blatant disregard for proper grammar. I can see that you've taken the tag line from a newcaster, but by doing so you still make the position appear to be one held by rubes.
  • Brian
Re-naming the title of these videos and the website for these ads IS important. As previously noted, it should be "Fewer"jobsmorewars.com.
I'd like to see these ads be "harder hitting". Be more straightforward: "elect John McCain and you'll be seeing a longer recession because of his "100 year plan" for more wars".
It's that easy - the cost of our war on terror is taking its toll on our economy, our lost political standing in the world, and the multi-trillion dollar debt that it will take our kids and grandkids to pay off over the coming decades.
These ads are clever but doubt they'll have a positive impact on the right-leaning voter. Tell them what it's costing them so they can vote for change.
  • Irv
The ad is brilliant! It makes the point in an extremely clever way . . . really gets one to thinking.
  • BRAVO! It is sooo easy to get caught up in the war debate and be lulled into a numbing complacency forgetting all the while that we have American sons and daughters dying for nothing.
Everytime there is mention about how we can't afford to pay for health care, education or poverty, etc, it am reminded how much money is being spent every second we spend in Iraq.
Ti get a sense of the massive volume of dollars being spent, just visit The Lang Report -www.thelangreport.com and you can see a counter documenting the money being spent and I challenge anybody to read of the meter as it is spinning too fast to keep up.
Check it out but if you do get a barf bag ready because it is going to make you sick!

  • Linda
    Yes Sean,
We are reading and listening. McCain is the military industrial complex's boy.
I want Blackwater USA and Haliburton off my payroll.
    McCain.....More of the Same.
  • David Schwartz
The ad is much too weak! It doesn't touch upon the real costs of the war: death, destruction, and a ruined economy.
  • Fran
I would love to see a GOOD ad on this idea - these are VERY confusing - I thought the first one was PRO MCCain!!! The second one was a LITTLE better, but the third one, again, leaves a person unsure if this is pro or con. You can't hear what he is saying in the TV ad, and you are putting his name out in front of people over and over - that's BAD advertising.
If you are going to use clips of him talking, make it very clear that his message is that we SHOULD STAY in Iraq for 100 years or whatever. It almost sounds as though he is criticizing the President in these clips - YES, I KNOW, WHAT IS ACTUALLY BEING SAID! But, if we are trying to convince an "average" or "ordinary" American, this will NOT DO IT! Fran

I don't know you'll "convert the unconverted" with this but it is a witty means of getting the messsage(s) across, that the war is a moral and economic disaster (etc., etc.) and that McCain, while seen by the "mainstream," as a moderate will do nothing if not perpetuate that disaster until--well, "a hundred years."
  • chris
yeah go back to sleep pay attention to mtv, bet, and american idol. this is what is wrong people must get off of the hair-brain idea that their voice doesnt matter, but think how many people wish that this country will change but feel that their voice would not be heard, if they just voice then the amount of votes would be monumental.
  • David
I'm totally against the war, but who do you think is going to listen to this? seems silly, and the lady who said the war cost him his job may not be wrong.
  • mscott
The $64 question is - when is Amerika going to kick its oil addiction? because it is making us all sick, and we are not making sense anymore.
we are fighting in Iraq because it has the second biggest oil reserves in the world. if we leave, without making progress towards kicking our addiction, we risk our economy and our livelihoods, hell we risk becoming a chaotic scene of modernity gone bad overnight. Imagine oil prices at $5, $10, heck $100 a gallon. What happens to our food supply, to our jobs, to our suburban lifestyles?
That's the subtext when McCain says we stay for however long it takes. We stay in Iraq until we kick or until the oil is gone.
Thank you George Bush for bringing us to the brink of disaster and reducing our choices to that of cold turkey vs. fighting for more oil.
  • G
Thanks for the update, Sean - baaaaah!
Okay, so the McCain clip is obviously being used against him and sure, it was part of a larger answer. Seems a lot like, oh, a certain candidate who tried to fire up his troops in Iowa back in 2004. That ring a bell?
Look, politics is not nice and it's not honest. Fight fire with fire Sean.

Hey folks, the ads are great but the grammar "less" is incorrect. it should be "fewer" wars. it's a matter of "count" vs. "noncount". try it and it might sound better. this is a very common mistake today, especially in the media.
  • Nahtanoj
Susan is correct. Although it is difficult to count (much less understand) the number of wars the Republicans would like us to engage in..., it is correctly "FEWER".
  • Susan
....except it's "FEWER Jobs. More Wars."
  • Scaldari Anitoba
We have no solution. We can chose either to be destroyed abroad, or destroyed at home. Reps have one, Dems have the other. The more I see, the more I hear, Ron Paul maybe the only hope. too bad he does not have a chance in hell. The difference between Obama and Hilary are negligible, Obama is just more like able. You want to read something scary? read Hilary's books, particularly "Takes a village to raise a child". Don't get me wrong, I am not a republican, although i do consider myself a social conservative. May the gods save us from Democracy and return us to a Republic, or we are all doomed. The Red pill will Kill you, and so will the Blue, oh what to do?
  • eileen kuch
Kai Jensen has it right; there should be videos of the total BRUTALITY of war - guts and gore galore. All members of Congress, every political candidates - and, especially the deranged "Neo-cons" such as McCain, Cheney, Podhoretz, etc. - should be shown a video of what the consequences of a 3rd World War will be for major U.S. cities. It would make the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like child's play. Such a video must be shown right in the two Houses of Congress, to put a very hard impact on every single Representative and Senator, and steer them away from "endless war".
  • From someone with an English degree, just a quick note for those criticizing the grammar of the logo: pulease, gimme a f*!#in break.

(Maybe we should change it to "A Sharp Reduction In The Number Of Employment Opportunities Comcommitant With An Increase In The Quantity of Armed Conflicts"...)
  • Brian Marody
Brilliant- 4 more years of a Republican administration will turn this country into The United Military Complex of America. Or has that already happened? I won't complain about 16 grand when there are soldiers and the families of those soldiers suffering because they've sacrificed so much more. Too many times they've paid the ultimate price. But 16 grand would have paid for my healthcare over the past 6 years that's for sure. Martin Taylor, you're welcome to chime in anytime you like. The world is watching and expecting us to FINALLY do the right thing. Peace. No.....seriously, Peace.
  • Dan Noel
At least McCain is sincere in stating the U.S. government's commitment to endless war. The drive for war comes less from the president than from criminal elements within the U.S. government, the same who brought us the 9/11 farce. As long as the president does not purge the government, the phony war on terror will go on.
  • Judith Bliss
Yup. John McCain - wrapped up tightly in the Republican ideological straitjacket. Any perspective that the public thinks he may have had about "more war" gained as a POW was lost when he decided that power was more important than the people, or his own integrity.
  • Martin Taylor
As a foreign national (Danish) and a former soldier fighting in the war on terror, I fear the implications of putting a man like McCain in the Oval Office.
The hardline Republicans will see this as a card blanche to take the militarisation of conflicts like Afghanistan and Iraq even further.
I suspect 4 more years of Republican run politics will mean keeping soldiers in the line of fire and cost not only American tax payers money, but have a global economic effect.

Maybe you don't give much for foreign nationals sticking our noses in your primaries and ultimately the run for the presidency, but wow! I have never seen so many of my countrymen discussing American politics as this time around! People here in Denmark are talking more about the election than they normally do when we vote ourselves!
This election HAS to be a win for the Democrats, it simply has to - Obama, take it home! I can't bear another 4 years of broken promises and soldiers sacrificed on the Holy Alter of Patriotism.
  • john devlin
i agree with both suggestions for videos: coffin watch and neighborhood invasion with a known voiceover person. i just watched "iraq for sale" again...have to stop these criminals!! you guys should somehow crash the academy awards.
  • Michael Peters
I think we've forgotten that we have all been brought up on cowboys and indians movies - this transposes us into believing that any differences between us must be reduced to goodies and baddies - and we all want to be one of the goodies - if the goodies beat the baddies then we win and live happily ever after - but the "live happily ever after" never comes. Wonder why that is?
  • darlene das
This was was created by CHENEY & Bush Clan. They use us as if we were just extras in a movie- non paying jobs. Easy to replace.

We the people can't even IMPEACH them...WE JUST TALK ABOUT IT.
  • Xottawan
Great videos, but your website should be "Fewer Jobs," not "Less"....just a grammatical point...:-)
  • Del & Sharon Sonsteng
Art, I wish more Military experienced folks would come to the fore as you have on this subject, This society is running hysterically after a worthy commander defender like McCain and he is certainly a worthy man. Unfortunately There just is no longer a Military solution out there to be won. the only war left for us to win is a moral war against blind violence on all sides and on that front Obama is talking the talk, walking the walk, But unless many more like you speak out, the common folks may fail out of fear to hear what is the only authentic message...
  • Kim K.
Doesn't McCain remember that he was a PRISONER OF WAR in Vietnam? Sounds like McCain has a case of convenient amnesia! Or has the man gone off his right-wing rocker? Or is he just a blind member of the Republiwarmonger Party? If McCain gets in, start building those bomb shelters!
  • Lisa Wisniewski
Why don't we see these spots on network television? How can we get them there?
  • Art Hoffmann
Being a retired Air Force member, I used to support John McCain. I now feel that McCain is capable of starting World War 111, because he would probably support an invasion of Iran, which would draw Russia and China into the conflict. Not only is he a "flip-flopper", but a very dangerous man.
  • Diana
You want impact...here's what's missing. During Vietnam, the caskets coming home EVERY DAY were on the news. Something they were smart enough to prevent when Iraq started. Get an estimate on how many will die in the next 100 years and how many families that will impact over the next 100 years and then start the film with the clips of the flag draped coffins, and more coffins and more coffins and then the funerals, one after another, and then the numbers. I would also suggest adding a "media clip" where Congress passes the draft because there aren't enough troops to fight a 100 year war. The children will be the only people left to work making the war material because their parents and grandparents will be off fighting the war, until it's their turn to fight.
  • victoria
Wonderful work ! Your approach here is, sad but true, target perfect. Too bad that American's tender spots "up close & personal" can mainly be felt via their pocketbooks & not specifically through feelings of downright MORAL indignation concerning Iraq & the dangerous prospect of perpetual pre-emptive war. Could we also make a video about the blatent LIES we were told, the corruption & habitual dishonesty of this Republican administration & the fact that this new Rep. candidate already shows proof & promise of building his Lies on top of Bush's Lies. McWar Monger indeed !
  • Mike
The sad part is that WE aren't paying the $16k per year, but our grandchildren will be paying it PLUS interest, since all of the WAR FUNDS are just added to our HUGE national debt....9.1 trillion. When Bush took office the debt was 5.5 trillion.
  • doris
"Less Jobs - More War" appears to be aimed at the John McCain crowd - aka, Bush minions.  It's "W-ese" for "Less Employment - More War."  It's important to speak in simplified terms to get the word out to the McMinions.  Many are just ignorant, and if they hear the facts on simple terms like, "Less Jobs - More War", may actually hear the message and consider its ramifications further.  If you use too many big words and/or correct grammar consistently, the wall of intellectual distrust goes up faster than a noose at a KKK rally.

Also, McCain was raised like Lt. Dan in Forest Gump, to be a war hero in a long line of war heroes.  Consequently, when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything appears to be a nail.  Unlike Lt. Dan though, who's life and soul were saved by Forest Gump, McCain met G.W. Shrub. How sad it was for him, as well as the rest of the real planet that their best friends from PNAC have enough cash and power to buy, cheat, and steal their way to the most powerful position on the planet.  Too bad the masses are too distracted to see the elephant in our global living room.  It's about to trample us all to death if we continue our complacency as a citizenry.
  • We need a short, powerful and totally shocking film up, showing the blood and guts of the wars over which the bland voices can be heard spewing out this insane shite of the call-centre salesperson. A mini "America: From Freedom To Fascism"! because people are NOT getting the tremendous hardship that WILL be caused by the coming 3rd World War. Nothing slick but only brutal will do, to wake up your committed 'War Mongerers'! Can you do that!??? Can you imagine the sort of horror that will befall your own American cities when the Chinese join in?!? Never mind the Iranians, they have their Allies to do their dirty work and it's ALL A SET-UP...
The name of the game is World Population Reduction as formulated by one Henry Kissinger in the early 70's in cahoots with one David Rockefeller, who is by the way, very enamoured by the Chinese and their 'system'.
What does that tell you folks?
Simplify your films and hit them in the balls!
    HARD!
These three films are all very nice but do NOT talk to the mentally deranged, people like McCain who is obviously a fool and crazy, but your threat will come from the Democrats over the next few years because they will win your general election, unless a miracle occurs . . .

Hey, Robert. As for cartoons, have you checked out Mark Fiore's cartoons at markfiore.com? Brilliant. Simply brilliant. I see a beautiful partnership developing! Credit me, please!
  • Alexander
The videos are great. I agree the last one is the cleanest. I also like the idea of using an outsourced operator to answer the callers questions.
We need a point made that the "war industry" is the only reason for this war. There is no more guns and butter analysis. More war means more profit. Maybe include the halliburton and Black water issues. More contractors there than soldiers.
275 and climbing, each month that price will be going up. 16,000 and climbing!
  • Celiene
Hi Robert - here's an idea.

How about showing how our national security, and our international standing will be null in the years to come as more children are dumbed down by NCLB and the lack of funding for education. Soon, only the 'elite' will be able to educate theiur children, which are the republican base. Why educate the poor? And more and more are becoming poor. At a time when colleges spend the first year or so re-teaching what should have been learned in high school, high school is becoming less and less of an educational asset - and lees and less people can afford to send children to even a city college or state college due to rising costs to the student from lack of tax resources.

Ultimately, we will not be able to compete on the world stage in Science, medicine, space explortation etc. and that will comprimise our 'safety', too when we will have to rely on the kindness and generosity of the rest of the world to exist.

Sad, but true. Pay for wars, or pay to educate America - including it's poor and disenfranchised. Hmm, I'll take education.

McCain is a scary man. HE of all people should want to stop wars after what he went through.
  • Judy Thompson
john mccain's comments should not seem like an afterthought. what he is saying should be more clearly highlighted. i know what you are trying to do, but the john mccain emphasis is lost in all these videos.

You should add something to the effect $16,000 and counting. Or on the phone the guy says 2$75.00 a month, no, that's $276.00 because it is not a stagnant number - it grows each and every minute of each and every day.

AND I like the idea somone else posted to use a person with an East Indian accent as the person on the phone - I would add in a really bad phone connection on top to emphasize the long distance nature. And maybe having paper-shuffling noises as he searches for the correct 'pat' answer. That would be really funny! (in that tragical way we have gotten 'used' to in the last 7 years...)

The 3rd video was definitely the best - the clearest. And liked the sign-up charge for Iran War. The background video of McCAin saying there would be more wars was also right on target. The first video was not as clear. It almost looked like an ad for McCain.

I like the videos, but I think they're preaching to the choir. People who think the wars are necessary aren't going to be moved by a "guns vs. butter" argument. Everyone knows wars cost money. The point that needs to be driven home is that Bush's wars are stupid and counterproductive.

I think you need to make videos that illustrate voiceovers like the following:

"Imagine there were five terrorists living in your neighborhood. Imagine that to find them, a foreign country invaded your town, bombed your neighbor's house, sent troops to kick down your door and took your sons away for questioning - using stress positions and dogs and waterboarding.
Oh, and they also fired the police department and let criminals take over the streets. That's what we've done to Iraq - over 100 thousand civilians killed by violence since we invaded in 2003. If it were happening in our country, that would be like 1.2 million dead. And this is how we're supposed to win hearts and minds in the Muslim world?
Stupid wars make more enemies. It's time to get out of Iraq."
  • Pensooggi
I feel a little foolish for it, but using "less" instead of "fewer" bothered me, too. I gave you some $, anyway. They are powerful videos on many levels. My suggestion, since there are 3, would be to have one of the callers be a white woman trying to deal with young children while making the call. And perhaps the man should be Hispanic?
  • Ken Shumaker
I think these videos are very effective. They deal with economic facts that are statistically true and events occurring in the lives of ordinary Americans that are happening more and more often. As long as the McCain TV spots are accurate statements of his past positions, these videos really make a point. Good job!
  • Tiffany
$16,500... I could be going to college with that kind of money, and should be.
  • Karl Darr
McCain, Clinton and Obama all have fractured policy aims when it comes to Iraq - and Iran.

Ron Paul is the only candidate with a viable solution.

We will leave Iraq, like we left Vietnam, and then things will get better.
  • Steve
    Love it!
It would be great if you had an East Indian answer the phone to denote the administrations promotion of sending jobs offshore to increase corporate profits.

    keep up the good work

The ideal phrasing of this title should be as follows: "Less Employment, More Wars". That, too, would gain lots of support. McCain is a very dangerous person, perhaps even more dangerous than Bush. Let's work for an Obama/Clinton Ticket for the White House, because a McCain/Huckabee ticket is far, far too scary to ignore.
  • Nick
McCain or is it McWar Monger?
Its obvious the most dangerous Republican nominee will win the nomination and he will more than likely be the next president. He will more than likely escalate the wars in Iraq and afganistan. He will more than likely start a war with Iran Venezuela and any other country that will not accept dollars for oil. Keep in mind thats why we really went into Iraq because Sadam said no more dollars for oil. How do you get big oil out of the Government when they seem to control just about everything? McWar is just another puppet for big oil.......The saying should say Lets kill everyone and we won't need anymore jobs.....
  • Clayton Allgood
Dr. Paul is the only candidate on either side that advocates a non-intervention foreign policy and bringing our troops home not only in Iraq and the middle east but the rest of the world as well.

    Ron Paul 2008
  • rosemarie coy
I like the videos. As an English teacher, I would just suggest that you change your tag line or mantra to "Fewer Jobs, More Wars." "Less" is the wrong adjective to use with the plural noun, "jobs."
  • HQ
Do a follow-up about what someone could do with $275 a month. Since the top 1% of the people have all the money, there are the other 99% who could definitely use it.
  • David Lockwood
I believe they were using the quote Joe Scarborough used on the TV. Talk to joltin' Joe about the grammar.
  • Anonymous
Gotta second the previous notation that the terminology should be FEWER jobs, not LESS jobs. Otherwise, excellent videos. Congratulations. Messages need to be pointed and personal to connect with the general public. We have become immune to staggering statistics (millions, billions, trillions). Keep it up close and personal.
  • Martha Warner
I want to warn you that some critic may try to attack you by pointing out that the correct grammatical form is: fewer jobs, more wars.

I hope you continue to spread the important message about the Republican view that supporting endless war is an American value.
  • joyce Weston
The clip is good, but could you please use the correct English form? It should read "Fewer Jobs; More War". The word "Less" is used for volume, not quantity.
  • silvia oyuela
congratulations for the efforts you are doing but when i saw this tittle i remember 100 years of wars in the past 100 years.
  • Come on guys. . . You know as well as I do when you call the government they put your ass on hold for a LONG TIME; as filmakers, you should know how to make a video transition that indicates a LONG TIME has passed before someone answers; these ads are great, but they could have been even better had you taken a few seconds to add frustration with the government by fading to black and. . . well you know the drill! Thanks for all you do.
  • SILVIA OYUELA
Please remember the wars during clinton administration... you just spent a hundred years of continous wars all over the world. Please stop them.
  • Good video. If you liked this video, there is a appro po video at GeorgeToldADirtyLie Dot Org
We need to do something to stop this war NOW!
  • Robert Baroody
Your videos are excellent because they connect the dots between the war and our pocketbooks. The "yes we can" parody is also wickedly brilliant.

That said, vidoes are seen, emailed, then largely forgotten. We need to reach the larger part of the population that: 1) isn't familiar with YouTube (a LOT of people and mostly those NOT in the choir); and 2) are uneasy about the war but who haven't yet connected the dots.

Here is a low tech idea that I think would work. Big signs (4' X 8') at an important intersection in every small- to medium-sized city. The heading in large letters: IRAQ WAR. Second line: COST ON 2-11-08, with the date changed every week. On the left, in rows: LIVES, OUR MONEY, OUR REPUTATION. Columns down USA and YOUR TOWN. The four numbers for LIVES and OUR MONEY would be updated every week. The line OUR REPUTATION would have a permanent phrase: NEARLY RUINED.

An increased impact cold be had by adding three questions in the bottom third of the sign:
Question #1: Who lost their lives?
Question #2: Who is making money from this war?
Question #3: This disastrous, costly war--WHY?

Finally, I would add a line at the bottom as a call to action:

    Call Senator XXX (202) 224-6621
  • How about a variation on the “Harry and Louise” ads from 1993, when opponents were working to sink Hollary's Universal health coverage?

Middle-Aged Couple seated around kitchen table with monthly bills in hand, "We just got this notice that they were going to charge us $245 a month to continue the war in Iraq; we're trying to save for our retirement!"

20-something, male or female in an office cubicle, another sheaf of papers in hand;" And I've got student loans to pay!"

    A soccer-mom regarding a flyer that's been left under her windsheild-wiper:"And I've got a mortgage to pay!"

A minority, standing by a mailbox with a similar flyer:"And Gram's in assisted living!"

A vet in a wheelchair:"I gave at the office, already!"

V.O.:"Tell your elected representatives that we can't afford the Iraq War. Vote ________ this February/March/November."
  • ken lusk
Not even nominated or elected and McCain has declared wars for 100's of years, ala "1984". McCain is a war criminal for bombing civilians in Vietnam and a traitor for violating the UCMJ, Uniform Code of Military Justice. He didn't even protect his own family from insults and abused by the Bush gang in 2000 and now he's going to protect the world? WHY IS IT THAT ALL THESE NEOCON IDEAS NEVER HAVE A COST ATTACHED TO THEM?
  • Mary
What about John McCain's role as one of the Keating Five? Many, many people were very badly hurt by the Keating scandal, and John McCain, of course, was not among them.
  • Tort McCarter
Sigh--it's a great idea, but the Grammar Police would like to remind you that "fewer" is the correct modifier to use when referring to a number amount. "Fewer Jobs, More War".
  • Merry Gregor
Here's my idea for an ad: Staring John McCain in 'The Hundreds' Years War' Harken back to 14th Century France (John's favorite nemesis0 picture McCain in his (Plantagenet or whatever GOP) suit of armour marching on this rag tag army with flaming arrows, in a comical fashion. Interpose pictures of the Great Plague (Black Death) to illustrate McCain Health Care Plan and interpose puctures of 14th Century famine as McCains Economic Plan. Show cartoon beheadings of women or peasants and add any other comparisons you like from the period then Close with a Funny Statement like "John McCain Welcomes you back to the 14th Century". or John McCain can an OLD dog really learn new tricks?"
  • Judy Cecka
I agree with the Blogger below who stated the Progressive message should be positive...and correct grammatically, by the way: "More jobs, FEWER wars". When you say "less wars" you just want the wars to be of less intensity, not fewer in number.
  • ruthelator
What is the value of these videos if people don't see them ON MAINSTREAM TV? Like it or not, that is still the media that influences MOST Americans.
  • Margaret Jahn
I agree with other posts: the video of McCain at some public event where he was singing a parody of the old song "Barbara Ann." singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran" played against some footage of what bombs actually do to children there are regretably vivid videos of that--seems the obvious thing and I for one would contribute to the cost of producing and showing it.
  • Regarding McCain, there was a video circulating not long ago with McCain at some public event where he was singing a parody of the old song "Barbara Ann." Instead of singing:
"Bar, bar, bar, bar bar bra ann"
    He sung:
"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran"
This is probably findable with a bit of research and could be used in your next video on McCain. That would be a wake-up call for a lot of voters.
  • Don Rettmann
I agree that more must be done to pursue criminal proceedings against Bush and Cheney, for lying to get us into the Iraq invasion, for outing Valerie Plame, which exposed a massive operation the CIA was running and thus endangered the lives of those involved and the nation's security, and for countless other crimes.

Regarding what to do about McCain, do anything you can. If he selects Huckabee as his running mate, they will be unbeatable in November, because currently, polls show McCain in a tie with either Obama or Clinton, and with Huckabee as his running mate, the fundamentalist "christians" will bite the bullet and vote for McCain. That makes more than 25% of all voters.
  • Joan McKenna
We need to win the heart and mind of every independent voter in America. She/he is generally more "liberal" than "conservative",much to our advantage.Only FACTUAL negative attacks on McCain will be effective in wooing intelligent people to our cause of peace. Nix the character assassination idea.Despite his stated issue positions, the man because of his heroic service to our nation deserves our respect. Not our presidency, but our respect. We can and will win this election because it really is a matter of life and death.
  • b1gabe5553
I beliebve that we wait until MCCain gets nominated then go after him will all guns blazing
  • Phillip Cruess
The use of "Less jobs," not "Fewer jobs," is
because of the Joe Scarborough quote.
    Thanks.
  • Nonimus
(Yawn.) Sorry. "Less," in this context, has more colloquial oomph. Works better. "Fewer jobs" sounds too quaint, and not as dire.
  • Matt
How about a video of "Angry McCain" talking about his love of war, and use the Drowning Pool song "Bodies"? You could show all his tantrums and mad faces, and quotes about being in Iraq for 100 years and starting more wars, while "let the bodies hit the floor!" plays in the background.
  • Saddam Hussein was a good man doing a rough job in a bad position. Let's face it he kept law & order and in a shithole like Iraq, only the FASCISTS could maintain civic order.

I wish we had one like him in America, instead of that cocksucker baby Bush. It's like Director Grimes said,"when our Saddam died the light left the earth in our generation like Benito Mussolini's death must have effected reality in the time of our grandparents".

This whole war was just to steal oil off of the Arabs and, because Saddam Hussein refused to let go of FASCISM.

    VOTE FASCIST 2008!
(if the Bush baddies don't blow-up more shit and cancel the election).

I just want to say how proud I am of the Democratic movement - we're really reaching out and speaking to the American people, be it in stump speeches, debates, or campaign commercials. Every video I've seen by BraveNewFilms is effective in its message AND its delivery. We need smart, fun commercials like these all over the mainstream media so we can show people what being an American is all about.
  • JP
I have a GREAT idea for you:

Why don't you focus on the well-documented (but covered-up) fact that John McCain collaberated and gave information with the North Vietmnamese!

I am NOT making this up--there is an entire organization of his fellow POWs dedicated to exposing him on this, GOOGLE "VIETNAM VETERANS AGAINST JOHN MCCAIN."

You, them--a match made in heaven. Let's "swiftboat" John McCain!

    Thank me later.
  • I would like a video showing the cost of war clock, going up and up and up with McCain saying repeatedly, "More Wars, More Wars..." Combine this with collapsing bridges, missing pentagon money, etc.
Also I think that these videos could be distributed using youtube friends lists or just culling youtube users names and sending it out. A more scientific approach would be to use a marketing company to figure out the demographic of those swaying away from McCain and towards O & H. Send this video right in an email to them. Someone out there must know the tech. Thanks...
  • cecilia
I am waiting for someone to use John McCain's own words, said in jest, of course, but none the less disturbing, "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" I think we have had enough glib warmongers in charge of America. I am impressed when I hear Obama speak about his willingness to talk face to face with those who could pose a threat to America - Obama is the right person for President
  • jcalex

OK! I find only one problem with that. The "Ideas" I have will cause J Mc to have s stroke because he will be running around so hard and fast trying to cove it up.I don`t think it`s a good idea for J Mc to read my ideas before they are implemented, because he will have time to prepare a counter.
Talk about a monkey wrench in the machinery,My idea will derail McCain`s campaign, therefore I will ask, those interested,to contact me via a Non Public connection so J Mc dosn`t have a chance to read my Idea here on this blog.Robert Greenwald, give me a shout, will ya?
  • Melissa
I think as an idea is to dig up old film footage, where Maria Shriver is trying to interview John McCain at an airport, John McCain is not a teddy bear!! John was giving Maria avery hard time in this video, he was telling her that he family, especially her late father sucked and that she was trash as well as her family. I think if the American people remember who John McCain really is: John McCain is a bigger asshole than Bush ever could be!
  • Nonimus
    To the grammarians...

It's actually a reasonable use of the word "less." The term "fewer" is used for things that can be counted -- for example, a sign above the grocery store express checkout lane should rightly read, "Ten Items or Fewer" (which it rarely does). However, "less" refers to general quantities of things, even if they could technically be measured -- such as "less rain." It could go either way for this *jobs* thing, and really, the monosyllabic less/more rhetorical construction is balanced and works better. More or less.

[We now return to life's bigger problems, already in progress.]

Please note: For all forum and blog users, the Apostrophe Protection Society will be contacting you shortly to discuss the proper use of the words "it's" and "its." Thank you.
  • Lauren Steiner
This is great. Very effective. But it would be even better if it were grammatically correct. It should be fewer jobs not less jobs. When the noun is plural, one uses fewer. When the noun is singular, one uses less. If you say it correctly, you'll see, it even sounds better. Just a quibble, I know. But if you can change it easily, you should.
  • Bill G.
YES! START HAMMERING MCCAIN NOW, NOT LATER.

HE'S FOR MORE WAR. HE SAYS NOTHING ABOUT DEALING WITH WHAT CAUSES THESE WARS. WE NEED TO WORK ON THE CAUSES - NOT JUST BOMB, BOMB, BOMB.

HE'S A MILITARY MAN AND THINKS MILITARY MEANS ARE THE ANSWER TO WORLD PROBLEMS.

HIT HIM HARD ON BEING ANTI-ABORTION AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS.

HIT HIM ON EVERY ISSUE THAT HURTS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

    DO IT NOW!
  • Alan Rider
Frankly, all the latest killing of US soldiers and Iraq citizens, doesn't seem as 'newsworthly' lately. Maybe I, and the coutry, have just become immune to it, or maybe, it is not being publishized as much as before. So my suggestion is to start talking ALOT MORE about the people getting killed. Afterall, one of the themes in the 2006 elections was "If you like the way the US is handling the war, vote republican"....
  • micha
Start telling the truth guys - the Democrats will not bring peace either and are in the pockets of Big Business just like the Republicans.
  • festertime
I'm 'positive' McCain would be a warmonger.

In this clip you make it sound the Surge is working, it is not. I think that is misleading and plays into the GOP lies.

Did anyone notice during the debate in front of the airplane that John McCain could not sit still on his chair. He kept leaning on the desk then back into the chair. I am in the medical field and this tells me he is in some pain. He was probably off his medicines so he could be alert. Do we need a President on Vicodin?
  • Donna Craft
What about the fact that McCain finished 5th from last in his class at the Naval Academy? Do we really need another dummy in the White House. If Dubya was a legacy student, wouldn't the same hold true for McCain (daddy was an admiral, after all)?

Our Presidential electoral process is little more than a commercialized Popularity contest. And anyone participating in its lunacy, perpetuates the continued ignorance! Makes about as much sense as a rock floating in the water

Only those individuals with sound reasoning and a knowledge of reality should obviously
see, that the only so-called "candidate" with legitimacy, is Dr. Ron Paul. If you don't think so, then your simply ignorant of the world around you. Sheese, and I'm not even a Ron Paul supporter. Moron roll call has commenced.

You want $50.00? Give me a worth while reason to contribute and I'll gladly send it in!

Emphasise that paying taxes to a government engaged in an illegal and criminal war is in itself a war-crime.

Also compare a WWII veteram talking of being tortured with and Iraqi talking of being tortured with a US voter being tortured by FOX!
  • ethan
You must couple the LJMW with the GOP and RNC - everytime, relentlessly so that it is everywhere, especially the FOX announcer in the backgroud. "Branding" does work but, it has to be ubiquitous.
  • AM
I do not believe that voters will be swayed simply by money considerations, like the cost of the war when the other side says its necessary for security. The last presidential election seems to strongly support this view. Thus, this add will convince no one.
The best way to make the war-money connection is the way Obama made it. Spending $200B/year fighting an unnecessary war hollows our economy out from within in less that a generation, setting us up to be rolled over by the next up-and-coming superpower. We are throwing away our security, not supporting it. China will eat our kid’s lunch if we spend ourselves into oblivion by over-extending ourselves militarily. If we keep up this suicide march, we will just go the way of all empires before us: Greece, Rome, Britian, USSR, etc.
  • Norman
...This from a long time media person.... Open, John McCain smiling, Then singing Bomb Bomb Bomb. bomb Iran (News footage)....As hes singing we see graphic pictures of war and what it does to people, especially the young....Cue the narrator: Mr. McCain, war is not a joke....End with head shot of him snickering
  • dpsheren
McCain supports the BUSH agenda...remind voters. Who is better off since the Republicans took office??? McCain, while campaigning, tries to ignore Bush and identify with Reagan...... Not the S&L; scandals or the Iran-Contra part.

Many voters are unaware of the new Iraq embassy/fortress and it's cost. Why do we need a vatican sized compound? Show what we could be doing with those tax dollars at home. What a nice target we are building.

Stress difference between occupying Iraq and fighting the war on terror. Ask the question...Where is Bin Laden? Is he in Iraq?
  • Margaret Nolan
Thank you! I agree that citizens need to hear concrete information about John McCain's plans for our country, and they need to hear it now, while the Republicans organize the McCain Makeover. The War is primary, the tattered economy, education, reproductive rights, and separation of Church and State are vital issues for American. PLEASE publicize objectively McCain's already published stances on these issues.
  • Nonimus
Geez. What's up with the grammar police?

"Less Jobs, More War" is punchy and to the point. It echoes the TV quip, and drives home the absurdity of a third-term Bush presidency (via McCain).

These ads are good. I would like to see one where it's made clear that folks' hard-earned money is being used to support private business and no-bid contracts -- whether overseas in Iraq or here at home in Louisiana, etc. It's frustrating how issues of national security are conflated with economic security; how we are bleeding and dying for the benefit of a few corporations; how public funds are being used to fatten the wallets of private interests. That money should be promoting our general welfare, improving infrastructure, education, and all the rest.

As a parliamentarian in Michael Moore's "Sicko" observed, "If we can find money to kill people, we can find money to help people." I don't mind paying taxes. I do mind the waste and misuse. In government, who is representing the interests of everyday citizens, versus corporations? That's taxation without representation... which is how this whole country got started. Tea party, anyone?

To riff off what Mary just said, below, I agree it's important to keep the message positive, balanced between something light-hearted and earnest. The perception of Republicans is that Democrats are whiners, complainers, weak, cowardly... always looking for hand-outs, wanting the government to take care of everything... as opposed to taking personal responsibility, investing some sweat equity, and putting forth hard effort. "Taking out the trash" is a metaphor for all kinds of Republican ideals, including a strong work ethic and moral courage (i.e., kicking terrorist butt). Conversely, to extend the trash metaphor, the Democrats would be talking about the environmental impact of landfills and how we might convert the trash into an alternative fuel.

Strangely, it's the Republicans who do the majority of trash talk, with bad mouthing and negative campaigning (swift boating). Democrats are too nice. We want everything to end in a hug.

Oh well... We're dem'd if we do, and dem'd if we don't. Dems the breaks!
  • hailey
you've got alot of RON PAUL supporters out there that HATE mccain. i suggest working with them. they would more than likely donate, promote, and spread these. check out www.ronpaulforums.com
  • Kay Kleinerman
WHATEVER ADS/VIDEOS YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE,THEY HAVE TO HIT MUCH HARDER!!! The current ads may be amusing but they DON'T hit the viewer between the eyes. You need to make it really clear how much this war is costing us, how it is draining funding from infrastructure, education, healthcare and how McCain's position on the war and LACK of understanding about the economy will sink this country.
  • FAC
While I do not support McCain, I do understand the context of his speech...something ya'll should realize - this country has been involved in war or warlike activities since the Spanish American War (or before that). We have NEVER been at "peace". The only difference between the socalled "peace-time" and "war" is the civilian perception (If death from a military action of anytype doesn't involve them personally - then we are at "peace")
Senator McCain was merely speaking the truth - our military will be involved in actions for decades into the future (like they have been involved in many decades prior). Don't kill the messenger, understand the truth of what he is saying & try to limit our involvement/death toll in whatever action our government will be involved in - no matter what the party.
  • Mary Baine
I hope you won't let these ads get or at any rate stay personal. We can't go down the road of negative campaigning and negative ads again--they do that much better than we do, for one thing, and for another it really, really turns off voters. I agree McCain needs to be outed as an over the top (possibly over the edge!) hawk, but the majority of the campaign advertising on the Democratic side can and must be positive. That, according to actual voters, gets them more politically excited and active, not to mention the implicit invitation there to help think of solutions to our problems and thus feed the substantiveness of the Democratic approach. It's something we can do to work against the grave strategic problem of our having internal fights while the Republicans get to work uniting around McCain. We have to be, and be seen as, Something, not just Not-Something.
  • Lila Greaves
Great job! Now make one about how abortion will be illegal once he is in office. I guess he would eliminate birth control too, which makes no sense if you want to eliminate the cause for possibly needing an abortion.
  • Donna Wilshire
I'd be more supportive if your title were:
    "FEWER" JOBS. MORE WAR.

Good grammar reflects good thinking ... Good thinking is a BIG deal to me. I cannot fund careless thinking/grammar.
  • louise Dotter
Perfect - keep up the good work. Wish I could send more! But I got laid off too! Job sent to India!
  • Janet Johnson
Love the videos on Less Jobs and More Wars. It hits right where it should. God help us if McCain wins. I've never been overly political, that is until Bush/Cheney/Rove took office. Surely Americans will not put another warmonger in the Whitehouse. What happened to the America we all knew and loved................Bush!
  • Dyana
1st- I agree that FEWER jobs is grammatically correct, but then the ad wouldn't be able to use Scarborogh's (grammatically incorrect) comment.

2nd- Why are progressives still using the word "war"? Occupation is technically accurate. Remember: Mission Accomplished? Americans can get behind a war, if EVERYONE (hello House and Senate Democrats) started using occupation every time they referred to Iraq, people would start to see the "war" and McCain differently.

3rd- The reason we need to start breaking down the McCain myth now is beacuse we have an advantage in knowing who the republican nominee is now, while McCain has to wait to craft his attacks until he knows if it's going to be Obama or Clinton. Also, the myth that McCain is a maverick and represents the conservative version of change needs to be dispelled ASAP if either Obama or Clinton are to prevail in the general election.
  • Lisa
Some of the voices are hard to hear - the voice on the phone and the TV - if you can't hear them, you miss the point. I agree with the other posts that you should name this MORE JOBS, LESS WARS
  • Susan Burt
Please, please, please, for the love of clarity, call your film, "Fewer Jobs, More Wars"--or if you take "Hope with Heart"s suggestion, "More Jobs, Fewer Wars."
  • Patricia
Toward the end of the phone call why not add something like..."and by the way, we understand you have an 18 year old son..." or some such concept to introduce the human/family toll also.
  • Hope with Heart
Oh, please don't call your campaign "Less jobs. More wars." That's THEIR line.

How we frame things is important!

OUR line should be "More jobs. Less wars."
  • Heidi
Excellent! Would be even stronger if you pulled in comparison on profits of Haliburton, etc. I would like to see clear numbers on cost per average working family vs. who is to gain from the tremendous expenses. (If possible and not too complicated.)

Also: What about comparing this, as another idea, against our infrastructure problems? This issue seems to be ignored (there has been fantastic press on it in the Times) but is, of course, illogical. It might be another positive avenue -- e.g., a choice issue on where we spend our money.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.
  • nancy dick
when is it appropriate to bring up "the keating five"?

    ever?
  • Impeachment MUST be on the table. We cannot let these criminals waltz away with their profits after the next elections.

We need more videos promoting impeachment. Even if they are not impeached while in office, they must be brought up on criminal charges after.
