Lieberman Must Go!

Joe Lieberman is a war hawk, plain and simple.  He staunchly supports George Bush's War in Iraq and John McCain's plan to stay in Iraq for 100 years.  But Lieberman's new alliance with the Republican Party runs even deeper.  He has endorsed and stumped for McCain, wants to be the star of the Republican National Convention, and has even served on a 527 group that smeared Barack Obama with a nasty attack ad.

And yet Lieberman still holds a top rank within the Senate Democratic Caucus as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.  The Senate Democratic Steering Committee needs to know just how much of a conflict of interest this is.  That's why we created Lieberman Must Go

Here's what you can do: Sign our petition today and tell the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Lieberman of his leadership role in Congress.  Then, e-mail this video to everyone you know and spread it on sites like Digg and elsewhere.

Recently in Talking Points Memo, Josh Marshall suggested that the best way to limit Lieberman is by encouraging the Steering Committee to render him powerless in 2009.  Lieberman must go, and you can make that happen by donating to Brave New Films today.

Joe lieberman has to go now!!!!! He is absolute bad for the Democratic Party. They forgave him for campaigning with McCain and then he spits in the Democratic Senator's face by trying to kill the Health Bill. Screw him, he is a traitor.
  • MeatwadGetsIt
To dan, he said "The fact that you don't like obama supporting Israel really shows what a low life terrible person you are, calling yourself Jewish. How dare you call yourself Jewish while hoping for its destruction."

Well Dan, that nation should be destroyed, and I mean destroyed. Now don't go off in your typical anti-semetic ranting and whiney noisey tone, that nation is a biggots and organized criminals dream land. Call yourself a jew and commit all the crime you want anywhere, if you get caught, come running to your israel.

See ht tp://rense.com/general84/pedrm.htm for details why it should be destroyed. Organized criminals should always be destroyed.

Now if you had a fair society that respects others,,, but NOOooooo.
  • dfalvo
I never thought much of him, even when he was running with Gore. I now see who he is, a republican and a traitor. The dude is spineless.
  • Nick
he must go.. he's a traitor.
  • Regardless of the effect on Lieberman, his retaining his chairmanship hurts the loyal hard-working Democrats on the committee and keeps them from moving forward in their careers.

Witness the movement "thru the chairs" initiated by the retirement of Sen. Byrd. Several other senators were able to move to assignments that will benefit the senate and the nation. Lieberman is an obstruction in this process.

Moreover, it is disrespectful to Democrats who have "played by the rules," and now see their leadership kowtowing to a man who has held the senate hostage for two years for his personal benefit.

It's just wrong! Lieberman MUST go!
  • solsenz
I say get rid of him. Let him be a traitor for the Republicans. If he really votes Democratic in the majority of the time, then he can be their traitor! Then we can EXPECT him to vote republican or agains our issues, and if he votes for us, it's just an added bonus for us.He's an embarrassment to us as it stands. Go Joe!
  • We Need To Win
Dan. What an embarassment you are to your country. I see you as a traitor. I don't hate myself and I couldn't be prouder of my Jewish heritage. The Sovier Union hasn't been around for twenty years, why don't you get with the program and educate yourself? Oh that's right you are incapable, as are most reactionary, right-wing, despotic facists.
  • We Need To Win
Dan first of all no one is moving anywhere and McCain will not become president, take it to the bank.

Secondly, do you enjoy going through life as a reactionary? Who said anything about hating Jews; I am Jewish as a matter of fact. Barack Obama is a big supporter of Israel much (to my dismay) so you have nothing to worry about.

Lastly, your time in the sun is about up. In 2009 there will be a significant Democratic majority in both houses of Congress and Barack Obama will be your president. He will appoint two maybe three justices to the Supreme Court and this country will once again reclaim its greatness and leave the horrific years of the Bush-Cheney dictatorship behind. If you don't like it dannny boy - tough.

I've detested this Republican in Democrat's clothes since he first started supporting Bush. Not only should Lieberman be stripped of his chair and his leadership status, but he should also be stripped of his American citizenship. He has always put the needs of the Israeli far-right, who are an incredibly scary group of war-mongers and terrorists, above the needs of America. I have never been a love it or leave it American; in fact, I have always been quite the contrary. But our country's foreign policy, let alone the lives of our soldiers, have been held to ransom by the hawkish Israeli government far too long. The Israeli far-right wage war on their fellow Jews by declaring anyone who is not Orthodox enough cannot be considered a real Jew. How can anyone trust such people? And to John FW, I would rather have the noble Jimmy Carter as my president for a century than have two seconds under the thumbs of monstrous Ronnie Raygun or Shrub. Also, it was the Carter administration that struck the deal for the release of the hostages in Iran. Did you also approve of Reagan's anti-union activities against the air-traffic controllers or his ruinous policies concerning mental health care? Next time you take a walk in any US city, stop to talk to the homeless people who have been relegated to the streets after their care facilities were closed during the Reagan era. And let's not forget the greed makes good message behind Reaganomics. How's that policy working for you under Shrub? Or, are you one of the .01% who have made out like bandits, while the rest of us lose our homes, businesses, or lives, for those unfortunate enough to be in the military? I, too, have held Obama accountable for his misguided support of certain Bush policies and judicial nominees. All members of any government must be held similarly accountable. I abhor the way our electoral process has been co-opted by the conglomerate-controlled media. I resent that I could not support John Edwards well into the primaries because the conglomerates didn't want him there. That said, I will now support Obama as someone who has a chance to do the right thing. McCain is a buffoon who will never do the right thing. He is a woefully out of touch hypocrite who is wrong on military, economic and social issues. He and Lieberman should be consigned to the political scrap heap where they belong.
  • We Need To Win
Sipple. I think you are obsessed with me and that's not healthy. If you don't care for my comments do not respond. If you choose to respond diplomatically to vermin who call progressives scumbags, and villify innocent parents who were executed for no reason by this country please go ahad; I am not a pacifist and I choose not to. I knew the Rosenberg's kids. The thread was ditched by a censor and I have never been ejected from any site; I can comment here or anywhere else for that matter. Sorry to dissapoint you.
  • We Need To Win
Dan allow me to introduce myself. I am a radical bad ass liberal and not a pacifist and I think you are a punk and a coward. Now that we have got that straight let's get to your inane diatribe which has all the intellectual reasoning of a two year old.

Joe Lieberman is a traitor to this country; his support for FISA, illegal torture and wiretaps and
his disdain for the constitution and the rule of law speaks volumes about his lack of patriotism. Aside from your atrocious spelling, you are completely ignorant to boot. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were innocent and they were executed to satiate the anti-communist hysteria of the time. Same song different verse today, with Moslems now the object of American racial hatred and demonization.

McCain suffered in that prison for dropping bombs on innocent women and children who just like in Iraq today, never attacked the United States. He was and is no war hero, just as Lieberman and you are not patriots. Now get lost and go educate yourself. Your time in the sun is up this November.Dismissed.

Are you people crazy, circulating a petition to strip Lieberman of his Senate positions? Do you want to make Lieberman angry enough to leave the caucus and put the Democratics in the minority? His membership in the caucus is a bargain with the devil, but it's the only one we have now.
  • Craig Dunkerley
I can't stand Leiberman but wouldn't stripping him of his chairmanship risk his leaving the Democratic Caucus in favor of the Republicans, throwing the Senate into a tie which would then be broken by Darth Cheney? Result, we lose control of the Senate for the rest of Bush's term. How about waiting at least until after the November election when our majority will hopefully be larger? Even then however if the Dems don't reach 60 members we may still need Leiberman's vote to achieve cloture on all the issues where his sentiments are more traditionally Democratic. I think booting Leiberman is emotionally satifying in the short run, but an idea whose consequences should be more seriously considered before we act. I think we should be careful what we wish for...
  • A R
I usually agree with you but this time I don't. Your math is off. If Lieberman is read out of the Democratic Party we lose the Senate. We have 49 Democrats and 2 Independents: Lieberman and Sanders from Vermont both of whom vote Dem for Senate administrative purposes. If Liberman goes republican, EVERYTHING is a tie vote. Joe is bad on the war, but good on a lot of other things, civil rights, women's issues, health, etc.

This is one time we'll have to bite the bullet and try and elect enough DEM Senators this year and THEN give him the boot.
  • republicanSScareme
The term "I believe in a strong national defense" has come to mean "I believe in a Zionist-Fascist American police state." It mean unquestioning support of the superior chosen ones! All salute or else!

Thank you, Joe, you are a very elucidating man. Who's got the rope?
  • We Need To Win
Where is the condemnation of Barack Obama from this site for siding with Justices Scalia, Thomas and Roberts in supporting the death penalty for child rapists?

Check out Lieberman Irks Democrats By Criticizing Obama By ANDREW MIGA The Associated Press Sunday, June 15, 2008; Washington Post -- TPMtv:Hit The Road Joe to your right on this page and...Don't forget to sign the petition on the Brave New Films Website...Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so...
  • Dane Hughes
Remove Liberman and Reid from the leadership. They both support and vote for money for this war, to spy on Americans, torture and disappear people, and they both should go.
  • rayman
Remember Joe-mentum. Go to Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo to get a clear heads-up on how to show Joe the exit.
  • ah clem
    .

Yeah, go ahead and alienate Lieberman further...strip him of everything and act shocked when he declares a switch to the Republican party! Let's see...that would make Harry Reid the new Senate MINORITY Leader, wouldn't it?

Yeah, the democrat party will have shot itself in it's collective foot, once again...morons....

    .
  • Don Robins
Be careful what you ask for. are we ready to be the minority party again between now and January?
unfortunately, 'Traitor Joe' has to be tolerated until we can afford to throw him overboard.
And to think that, if all the votes had been counted, he would be our outgoing Veep. Scary.
  • Stanley J. Heginbotham
This initiative is stupid, ill-conceived and dangerous.

Of course all of the things you say about Lieberman are true.

The fact remains, we would have a Republican Senate, with republican chairmen, republican dominated staffs, and republican controlled hearings if Liberman -- for whatever reason -- did not vote with the Senate Democratic Caucus. Having him as chair of the Homeland Security Committee is the cost we pay. Its terribly unpalatable, but a relatively small price to pay.

Only someone really tone-deaf to the realities of the Hill would support a move that would give Lieberman every incentive to withdraw his membership in the Senate Democratic Caucus and recast the Senate into a Republican-dominated body for the remainder of this Congress.

I strongly urge you to kill this initiative.

You forget that Jimmy Carter campaigned on getting change in Washington. He will go down as a pantywaist president who let the Iranians keep a lot of our men captive for over a year.

As soon as Reagan came into office, Iran released the captives immediately because they knew that Reagan would have come in and bombed them back to the Stone Age.

Obama has no foreign policy credentials and has the delusional notion that he can sit down and reason with terrorists and they will be good. It is just like the appeasement movement prior to WW II. Just talk to Hitler and he will come around.

"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it".

Get rid of Lieberman, hell no I will support him for having the balls to stand up to the panty waist democrats and state correctly that there is only one way to deal with tyrants. You also forget that there are a lot of southern democrats who support a strong national defense.
  • britethorn
  • Shouldn’t they wait until January? Wouldn’t Sanctimony Joe simply change parties, caucus with the elephants, and end the donkey majority, such as it is?
