Campaign: Other

Do you shop at Ralphs, Vons, or Albertsons?

When we finished Wal Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, we knew the fight was far from over but didn't know what the next step would be. Then we discovered a recent UC Berkeley Labor Center study showing that in the last three years, up to 20,000 fewer children of grocery workers have access to the company's health care. While the cost of living is soaring in SoCal, our grocery workers are getting pay cut after pay cut. These folks have not seen one penny in raises in over five years!

It's time to hold the employers at Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons accountable for their greed. These companies made record profits of over $8.3 BILLION last year.

David Dillon, Jeff Noddle and Steve Burd are the CEOs in charge (otherwise known as The Gang of 3) Last year they took home bonuses that amounted to $27.2 Million! That money went directly into their pockets while the families that keep the stores running can't afford even basic, human needs.

We've launched a campaign (with a short film, of course!) to help the grocery workers negotiate a fair contract over the next few weeks. We'll keep the heat on until the 3 guys that make the decisions make the right one.

We know that when you drive by your local Ralphs, Vons or Albertsons things look fine from the outside, but behind closed doors people are getting seriously swindled. The corporate supermarket chains have already announced their intention to lock out all their workers if there is a work stoppage, so it's time for us to show them what the consequences will be if they take such a reckless move.

Please sign the pledge not to shop at Ralphs, Vons, or Albertsons stores if they force a lockout or strike.

What happens here in southern California will have a ripple effect across the country. These local stores are part of the larger grocery industry that is becoming less and less responsible to their employees. This type of corporate greed is having catastrophic effects on communities across the country. Let's set the example here at home and make a difference nationwide.

Thank you for doing something.

Funny how it sounds like he says "predators" when he says "creditors". That's what working in these environments are like. It's like working for predators.

People suffering like this because the Elite want to make Health care a For-Profit business squeezing as much out of the market as possible. Thus, leaving the working poor out there working around the illnesses floating around in the public and the illnesses brought on by chemicals in our environment and not being able to take care of themselves.
I, too, got sick while working unknowingly in a Superfund site, I became too ill to work and almost died. I was without medical and I basically went home to die in bed and wait to be thrown out on the streets. My family saved me but it was a tragedy that impoverished us and I have lost much of my health. I worked for the state of WA and it was a ruthless employer playing the same games as these corporations with health care , etc. People going against Single Payer Health Care are evil terrible people justifying these modern day American working-poor formulas for worker exploitation and wealth amassing of the Elite. SEND BLUE-DOGS HOME. CANTWELL YOU ARE DONE! SEND EVERY BLUE DOG HOME FOR GOOD.
  • All are great CEOs, I wish I can equal with them.
  • I did shop at those stores. I just shopped at Albertsons when i saw the sale on the weekly ads mailed to us, but when I was about to pay, the self automated checkout machines are not available so I needed to fall in line and pay to the cashier, when I was paying, the cashier asked if I'm a member and I said "no" she asked me to sign a form and gave me card to avail of the discounts tagged as SALE. I ended up paying the regular price because I did not sign up for the card. I never came back to that store again.
  • Good expose'; Apparently, the "SALE" tags are just attention getters. Be wise and not be fooled with this huge red tags.

There's a trend here people, WAKE UP! Charge more and more and give less and the apathetic SHEEP will just put up with it. There used to be 'service stations' now you pump your own gas and pay outlandish prices, but you put up with it. Goes like this, corporate monopoly, rape the consumer, consumer has nowhere else to go or no other options, so consumer just 'takes it'. History buffs know this practice goes all the way back to the Boston 'Tea Party' and it's still going on. The well off scoff at the crys of the common man, but it's the common man who's keeping this country going. What goes around. . .

I would like to use your video "Super Market Swindle" in my meetings. I have worked in the grocery industry for 30 years and have lived the
story you are telling on this video. I have a networking business, I want to give a chance to others to have a good income and be their own boss. I would like to show these people how corporate America treats their employee and how
they can have options like I have now.

Hey, I've made a ton of cash on supermarket stocks. Great going CEOs. You should get a bigger raise. Great idea on the those automated checkout machines. Please add another bank in each store. I love them, and never get into the real checker lines. Please make sure those machines are properly taken care of, oiled, programmed, and updated. Spare no expense in keeping those machines running in tip top fashion. I love them!
Don't compromise too much on union talks. Your raise depends on your stock price. Remember that!
