John McCain: Economic Disaster

John McCain does not have the ability to fix this economic crisis.  After declaring the fundamentals of the economy strong, he created a political circus in Washington last week by mucking up bailout negotiations; a deplorable stunt, considering he and his political cronies helped cause the current meltdown.

It was McCain and his economic adviser Phil Gramm who pushed for the deregulation that helped lead to the banking crisis, and it was McCain's crony Rick Davis who had deep lobbyist ties to Freddie Mac.  Don't let others be fooled by McCain's economic grandstanding because the reality is his policies and principles will only exacerbate our financial hardships.  That's why you must spread this video.

McCain is being deceitful with his sudden populist message and support for regulation; his economic policies still favor our nation's wealthy elite.  Call out McCain's economic dishonesty.  Send this video to friends and ask them to sign up for a free Brave New Films video subscription to know the latest on TheRealMcCain.com.  Then, post it on your blogs and spread it on networking sites like Digg and Reddit.  These are some of the best ways to reach people who are not following this debate closely.

Let's make sure everyone knows McCain can't get us out of the mess he got us into in the first place.

  • I think McCain needs more time and go further into the U.S. needs to reach to accept the high voter turnout
  • Obama is going to ruin our country. Open your eyes people! He is going to tax you so much you didn't know what happend. Start saving today!!
  • Mary
You talk about "Brave New World", welcome to Obama's Brave New World. With him the government is going to be ruling your lives! I can't believe you are all falling for his lies!!! Ignorance!

    Palin abused power.

99.9% of your Country met this woman for the first time approximately a month ago. Between the "Dude" and her, it seems as though McCain did a very poor job at vetting. My question is why her? Experience? I'm sorry, but you can't be a vice president and have your husband sitting on a chair beside you helping you, with your duties. Does she confide in him to make every decision?

Bush and his inner circle lied to you folks about Eyeraq (Sarah), he lied to you about the economy, his inner circle have profited immensely on the war through Haliburton etc., and McCain still supported this guy.

All the allies were behind Bush after 9/11, and would have probably defeated the enemy, had they stayed the course. But no, Bush wanted to go after someone that kicked sand in his daddy's face to make a point. That, and of course OIL, OIL, and more OIL. WMD my *ss! Now Iran and N Korea, are starting to flex, and heaven forbid, Sarah Palin and the Dude are sitting in their snowmobile suits across the table negotiating with these guys. Very scary.
  • John Ehrenfeld
How predictable that you can't discern the difference between a typo and an incorrectly spelled word. I will continue to taunt despots; take it up with your friend Cheney if my exercising my right to free speech doesn't appeal to you. Tough eh'.
  • Suzette A.
OOOh. You misspelled a word Johnny! Maybe that 'reflex' flaws in your character and reveals that you are coming out of the closet as a McCain/Palin supporter. Wow. Look at the conclusions I can jump to based on someone's mistake! -Just like you do by being hypercritical of our opponents; like taunting them. We do not need Obama supporters like you Johhny. You are giving the 'sane' supporters a very bad name.

Suzette why don't you answer my question is you are capable. Why do you support John McCain?

Cindy McCain stole drugs from a medical-aid charity...

Oh my, I guess that makes Senator John McCain a columbian drug lord... see the association?
  • TheMan
Well, if a person is guilty by mere association then Senator John McCain is a felonious “bank robber” and “drug dealer”…

The Keating Five Scandal occurred around the same time when Cindy McCain was addicted to opiates. In 1984, news outlets reported:

“You're U.S. Senator John McCain, and you've got a big problem.
Your wife, Cindy, was addicted to prescription painkillers. She stole pills from a medical-aid charity she heads and she used the names of unsuspecting employees to get prescriptions… “

“…John Dowd, the attorney who got you out of your Keating Five mess, worked on getting your wife a sweetheart deal with federal prosecutors…”

“… Cindy McCain lied about drug treatment she claims to have undergone. Although she told reporters she went into a residential drug treatment program earlier this year, she told investigators she had treatment during 1991 and 1992. Whom did she lie to--investigators or reporters...

… If Cindy McCain did undergo treatment before 1994, as she told investigators, the senator's claim that he didn't learn of his wife's addiction until this January simply defies credibility…

… Cindy McCain and Jay Smith lied about her status with federal prosecutors. She told a Tucson reporter she had already completed a pretrial diversion program. Smith told another reporter that the case had come to "resolution." In fact, Cindy McCain hasn't even been accepted into a diversion program…”

Question ~ Senator John McCain has deployed his BAV also known as the Bill Ayers Video. The nation was blanketed with leaflets and warned that Senator John McCain had his finger on the button and would exasperated his arsenal to ‘win’…

Alert, stand clear Senator John McCain has pushed the button and this seismic event will convert holdouts to believers and transform democrats to republicans…

Bravo Senator John McCain it is tough to throw a hail marry pass 80 yards at 72 years young.

Your current position is a byproduct of your own unethical and dishonorable positions. As a U.S. Senator you were:

    - Accused of corruption in the Keating Five Savings and Loans Scandal of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
    - You were one of the named principles that used ‘poor judgment’ that resulted in a loss of $1,300,000 for mostly elderly Lincoln Savings Bond Holders,
    - In 1989 the “bailout” was costly and left the federal taxpayers on the hook for the sum of $2,000,000,000 (2 billion federal taxpayer dollars)…
    - There are many photos available showing you and the convicted felon Keating together.
    - There are recorded hearings where you presented arguments for deregulation aiding your ‘friend’ Keating.

In contrast, the despicable acts committed by Bill Ayers occurred while Senator Obama was an 8-year-old child. The issue has been exhaustively researched findings are:

“Bill Ayers and Barack Obama at one time lived in the same neighborhood in the city of Chicago, and both had worked on education reform in the state of Illinois. The two met "at a luncheon meeting about school reform."[41] Obama was named to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Project Board of Directors to oversee the distribution of grants in Chicago. Later in 1995, Ayers hosted "a coffee" for "Mr. Obama's first run for office."[42] The two served on the board of a community anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 2000 and 2002, during which time the board met twelve times.[42] In April 2001, Ayers contributed $200 to Obama's re-election fund to the Illinois State Senate.[41] Since 2002, there has been little linking Obama and Ayers.[42] The senator said in September 2008 that he hadn't "seen him in a year-and-a-half."[43] In February 2008, Obama spokesman Bill Burton released a statement from the senator about the relationship between the two: "Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence. But he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost forty years ago is ridiculous."[41] CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the non-profit projects in which the two men were involved.[44] Internal reviews by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic "have said that their reporting doesn't support the idea that Obama and Ayers had a close relationship”.

So according to Senator John McCain those students, school administrative staff, all local elected government officials are all ‘terrorist’… Really?
  • TheMan
Suzette ~ Sorry, life got in the way of having a timely response.

If you think John and I are singing the same song, well there are millions of others humming that same tune. When discussions unravel to off topics like dates it begins to mimic those same off topics observed from the McCain/Palin ticket… little substance and uninformative.

The Governor is engaged in a thirty-day beauty pageant and believes what she lacks in substance she can makeup for in the bathing suit segment… a lot of men out there have expressed enthusiasm but no one has said specifically it has anything to do with Governor Palin’s mental prowess. Hey, guys I hate to ruin the fantasy but the ‘Hooters’ or ‘Playboy’ girl can’ t be the Veep! Not one man or woman has defended the Governor’ s insightfulness, leadership, brilliance, or professionalism… Senator John McCain and the GOP talking heads empty response have not changed, “ She’ s the most popular governor with an 80% approval…” Maybe Senator John McCain didn’ t know Alaska is ranked 47th in population, under 700,000; that compared to America’ s total population of 300,000,000. Hell, Arizona has a population of 6,200,000 so why did Senator John McCain select Governor Sarah Palin? Maybe no other credible republican wanted to be on the ticket!

With less than thirty-days to go until Election Day we are still discussing Governor Sarah Palin’ s cheerleader qualities and prepared attack dog lines… Really? I don’ t blame the opportunistic governor for not refusing the position. It was unequivocally Senator John McCain’s job to select a running mate that could help lead this great nation. Did he drop the ball? Senator John McCain chose a person that is ‘dumber’ than he because no woman with dignity and intelligence would permit any man to diminish her role by becoming an obedient the notion being inferior ‘attack dog’. Then again, a dog is mans best friend…

It is unfortunate but questions about McCain' s health should seriously be addressed. At a recent rally he addressed the crowd as "My fellow prisoners"... is it stress, sleep deprivation or is it some sort of deteriorated cognitive function… I hope not, but his erratic behavior and recent episodes of poor judgment could be the onset of dementia.

The good news is that Senator John McCain’ s condition can be properly diagnosed. On the other hand, Governor Sarah Palin’ s ‘Foot in Mouth’ disease is far more complex and science has yet to develop any treatment. The prognosis for patients like Governor Sarah Palin usually results in the amputation of one’s political career… Time will tell!
  • John Ehrenfeld
Suzette. Why do you support a reactionary like John McCain?
  • Suzette A.
Sorry Johnny. You sound guilty as a war criminal to me! The only thing you can say is that I misspelled "reflects"? I was a little pre-occupied with working the phones for Obama here and I have a date this evening on my mind. Bob hinted you need a job or something (like a date?), didn't he?

Is anyone else tired of John, I mean TheMan's ranting?
  • John Ehrenfeld
You couldn't be more wrong Suzette. But then again I would imagine any remotely intelligent writing sounds the same to you. Care to explain what you meant by "reflex" each others views? If you have anything serious to say be my guest.
  • Suzette A.

Funny how these two write on the same blogs, speak the same words, reflex each others views EXACTLY and actually ARE the same guy.

    What a psycho!!! ;)

Oh Suzette, you are blonde, beautiful AND intelligent!
  • TheMan
This is just one of Senator John McCain' s criminal associations.

The man' s veracity and credability were lost to personal greed... for a tidy sum of $200k…

Just ask those Arizona investors who lost all of their money!

Did Senator John McCain ever devise a plan to help them recover their money? No, and he has had twenty years to do something about it!
  • Suzette A.
Heyyy! I think that "TheMan" and "John Ehernfeld" are one in the same! Ha. You create your own conversation with yourself.

You are really sneaky John! Just about as slick as McCain!
  • TheMan
Bob Winger ~ Great stuff, but could you explain what Senator John McCain has accomplished for the estimated $6,000,000.00 of income he has collected thus far?

Oh that’ s right in 1987 he was a principle in the Keating Five Scandal. I have read the following:

“Once upon a time, a politician took campaign contributions and favors from a friendly constituent who happened to run a savings and loan association. The contributions were generous: They came to about $200,000 in today’s dollars, and on top of that there were several free vacations for the politician and his family, along with private jet trips and other perks. The politician voted repeatedly against congressional efforts to tighten regulation of savings and loans, and in 1987, when he learned that his constituent’s savings and loan was the target of a federal investigation, he met with regulators in an effort to get them to back off.

That politician was John McCain, and his generous friend was Charles Keating, head of Lincoln Savings & Loan. While he was courting McCain and other senators and urging them to oppose tougher regulation of savings and loans, Keating was also investing his depositors’ federally insured savings in risky ventures.
When those lost money, Keating tried to hide the losses from regulators by inducing his customers to switch from insured accounts to uninsured (and worthless) bonds issued by Lincoln’s near-bankrupt parent company. In 1989, it went belly up — and more than 20,000 Lincoln customers saw their savings vanish…”
What do you think Senator John McCain might accomplish if he were president with his trusty sidekick… Hopefully we’ ll never know!
  • John Ehrenfeld
Of course you think Bob is right Suzette; you too are a reactionary right-wing traitor to the ideals this country was founded upon. A couple of more months and it will all be over for you so I understand the panic and desperation.

John McCain is a war criminal, dropping bombs on innocent persons in a country that never attacked us based on the lies of the Gulf Of Tonkin is inexcusable.
  • Suzette A.
I think Bob is right. The more John talks, the more foolish he appears. He sounds lonely and scary. He blathers just like my ex!
Thank you Bob for revealing the truth about that story.
  • John Ehrenfeld
Bob Winger. I always appreciate when a reactionary right-wing zealot loses control and reveals himself to be the diametric opposite of what an American should be.

John McCain is in my opinion a war criminal. McCain said those words, "I am a war criminal; I bombed innocent women and children". Then he attempted to do an about face and blame his words on being coerced by his North Vietnamese captors. I don't believe him. I think John McCain is a liar as he has repeatedly proved in this campaign.

However, even if he was coerced into making that statement, it doesn't mean it's not true. John McCain did bomb and kill innocent civilians in a country that never attacked us. That makes him a war criminal. He is no hero. The true heroes were those that did not go to Vietnam.

I'm sorry to tell you I do vote and so do about a hundred and twenty million other Americans. Come November 5th that will mean the end of the political career of John McCain and the refutation of your failed ideology.
  • Bob Winger
Wow John! Great comments! What an intellectual you are!

Let's see... your personal attack bytes:
-"Your entire posturing is illogical and poorly reasoned"
    -I am "Patronizing"
    -I am "Juvenile"
    -"Disingenuous"

Well John, my opinion? You're a great guy. Let's get "juvenile" now...

I want to be like you. Opinionated, judgmental, angry, closed minded, paranoid, bias, overbearing, cocky, and really easy going, to boot! Sorry John. I am not trying to silence you; I am just stating my opinion.

You are very wrong by propagating LIES! Get your facts straight. Your opinion means nothing to me because you pass on misinformation to people. Others should be aware of your falsehood and fabrications of the TRUTH!

I just looked up your site on bravenewfilms ( bravenewfilms.org ) and am aghast at your really bizarre "opinions" and deceit. You and I are VERY different. I seek truth and you spread lies! You said a number of crazy things... I quote you:

"John McCain is no war hero. In 1997 on 60 Minutes John McCain said the following. "I am a war criminal; I bombed innocent women and children".

    The Factual Truth:

Nearly twenty-five years later, what Senator McCain said to Mike Wallace during an interview for a segment of the 60 Minutes news magazine (originally broadcast on 12 October 1997 and aired again on 6 June 1999) was not a personal declaration that he had been a "war criminal" who "bombed innocent women and children," but a lamentation that while a POW he had, under pain of torture, finally allowed his captors to coerce him into issuing a "confession" stating such. A transcript of the relevant portion of the 60 Minutes interview from 1997 shows that when McCain spoke the sentences "I was guilty of war crimes against the Vietnamese people" and "I intentionally bombed women and children," he was referring to the substance of a confession his North Vietnamese captors had forced him to write as wartime propaganda, not making a open admission of personal guilt:

WALLACE: (Voiceover) People who know McCain well say he can hold a grudge. He also has a legendary temper. But if McCain can be hard on his friends and even harder on his enemies, he can also be very hard on himself.

Sen. McCAIN: I made serious, serious mistakes and did things wrong when I was in prison, OK?

WALLACE: What did you do wrong in prison?

Sen. McCAIN: I wrote a confession. I was guilty of war crimes against the Vietnamese people. I intentionally bombed women and children.

WALLACE: And you did it because you were being tortured...

    Sen. McCAIN: I...

WALLACE: ...and you'd reached the end of the line.

Sen. McCAIN: Yes. But I should have gone further. I should have never believed that I that I would break and I did.

---Well John Ehrenfeld, nice try, loser!

    Another One of Your Quotes:

"The true heroes in America were the men and women that went to jail or Canada rather than participate in an immoral and illegal war..."

You need something of 'substance' (like a job) to keep you busy. (You are in Canada?)

"That's my opinion" I have to get back to work instead of wasting my time bantering with a fool. Don't bother responding. I won't be on this site to read it anyway. I am surprised these readers haven't realized you are a complete fraud that quotes lies, slogans and insults. You probably can't vote anyway!
  • John Ehrenfeld
No one is trying to silence you. I am stating my opinion that your entire posturing is illogical and poorly reasoned. I also am concluding that given your patronizing and very juvenile way of posing the question, that you are not undecided at all and are just being disingenuous about where your political leanings are. In short I do not believe you, that's my opinion.
  • Bob Winger
I am sorry to hear that you think my fact finding query is a ruse and that you think I have come to an "illogical and poorly reasoned" conclusion. How do you conclude that my intention is to "single out one politician" and that I am suggesting he is basically a guilty politician?

This is exactly why I wrote:
"INSTEAD OF MY OPINION, I am going to present this fact. If anyone responds, please do not attack ME... address this particular fact without emotion. As an undecided voter, it is hard to discuss issues with some (not all) "passionate" Democrats without the yelling and finger pointing. It is really hard to cut through the bull and emotions and get to solid facts."
I am really disappointed with your reply and do not like what followed your attack on me after your leading comment "No attack on you Bob.".
There must be a reasonable response from a Democrat OR a Republican to my truly innocent comments! Why can't I question and discuss without being accused of being some enemy?? You sound paranoid and bias. However, thank you for your opinions. I am not going to be 'silenced' by people like you, though. "But, nice try."
  • John Ehrenfeld
No attack on you Bob. There are thousands of companies that make thousands of contributions to politicians. That includes Republicans and Democrats as is evidenced by your list. To single out one politician and one companies political contributions and to suggest there was any quid pro quo because of that is just illogical and poorly reasoned.

If you want to talk facts, talk about the financial crisis being caused by the GOP mantra of deregulation and laissex-faire capitalism. But nice try, you can go back to making calls for the McCain campaign now. Confused and undecided didn't fly here.
  • Bob Winger
I am confused. I am undecided on a candidate. Based on my own research, I found in the public records that Senator Obama took a LOT of money from Fannie and Freddie. INSTEAD OF MY OPINION, I am going to present this fact. If anyone responds, please do not attack ME... address this particular fact without emotion. As an undecided voter, it is hard to discuss issues with some (not all) "passionate" Democrats without the yelling and finger pointing. It is really hard to cut through the bull and emotions and get to solid facts. Thanks!

Tony ~ The GOP is out of touch and out of gas! The country almost went belly-up by the current Republican president and a fundamentally flawed belied that oversight and regulations are bad… Do you disagree?

The country was slammed into a tailspin and this administration had no idea it was coming… inexcusable!

I have not heard any apology nor has anyone been FIRED for the current crisis… that in part explains President George Bush’ s abysmal 20% job approval rating.

Once a small indiscernible rumble has grown and amplified. The majority of the middle bipartisan electorate is saying ‘Enough’. In these waning days it is becoming increasingly clear that one candidate has charisma, experience, honor and ideas to solve the current and future issues that everyday Americans need to have fixed while the ladder runs away from the important issues and intentionally stirs the bottom of the pot to incite racial bigoted hate mongering tensions in a very colorfully populated America.

One candidate has lowered that bar and it certainly isn’ t Senator Obama… just my opinion.

Lastly, as I see it Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice call me Sarah Palin’ s Joe six-pack… No thanks!
  • Tony
It is hard to believe how gullible the American people can be. Sure McCain isn't perfect, but what person is?? If Obama gets the White House, the liberal congress will certainly pass his tax and spend policies! He will bankrupt this nation by giving "tax refunds" to people that don't even pay into the system to start with. If you want to have more of your hard earned money thrown down the toilet then vote for Obama. He is nothing more than a smooth talking socialists.
  • Ivens Louis
Can somebody tell me what the hell is going on with that Guy? Where does he stand? I am a conservative Republucan for the last 20 years, but now I am so confused. I hope he won't be the next Pres!
  • Roger
Don, correct me if I am wrong, but in 2004 the congress was controlled by the republican party. What 3-4 members of the democratic party in congress said had little effect on what was done. The Freddie and Fannie lobbyists in McCain's campaign leadership group should be evidence enough that McCain is culpable in this mess.
  • TheMan
The President sets the policy... and this debacle will be President George W. Bush’ s legacy. Do you disagree?

The President and the GOP can’ t spin their way out of this cavernous ditch.

Try as you may it only makes the GOP look worse…

Anonymous ~ Governor Sarah Palin has declared herself a maverick and mavericks' s do and say what they darn please... you betcha!

Are the 'downstream' voters really impressed? This woman is a great actress who has been handed a script from ‘Annie’. She is purposefully lowering the bar to communicate with poor rural white voters who like using folksy words like wonderin, pleez, hey, yall, and betcha to name a few.

Is it charming? Maybe on Broadway!

This is a serious job and actors need not apply.

Senator John McCain, the casting director, is ultimately responsible for this farce.

Hey yall wonderin if youd stic arond for tha finali pleez. It will onli cost yu $700 bilon dolarz!
  • TheMan
Strange thing about pitbulls, they' ve been known to turn on their handlers... McCain better watch out!

Jaymon ~ Interesting post… There’ s a lot of finger pointing and few, if any, will accept responsibility for flawed ideas that went unchecked creating today’s financial crisis. It did not happen overnight. Our elected officials dropped the ball! The truth hurts but President George Bush and VP Dick Cheney have signed off on policies that continue to fumble the ball.

President Bush, who I voted for has fumbled and fumbled badly. It is impossible for Senator John McCain to advance a new agenda if he has been in lockstep with the current administrations failed policy. Do you disagree?

Senator John McCain has a very serious problem. Senator John McCain attempted to tell this electorate that all was well with our economy. Either he was clueless or he lied to the electorate… either is unacceptable.

I watched the debates and was very impressed that Governor Sarah Palin managed to walk and talk; that is how low expectations were set. Her debate coaches should be proud because she didn’ t deviate from the prepared ‘script’. Did you see otherwise? So many negative statements have been said about the woman that it doesn’ t bare repeating, but clearly she is inept for this job.

It has been my experience that whenever a person interviewing for a position has little mental substance but captivates the interviewer with beauty she is inept unless you’re an applicant at the local ‘hooters’; just my opinion. Governor Palins mental ability has not been impressive. I have heard men & women comment on her physique, but few speak about the policy she brings to the ticket. I like some other men early on began to think about the pick with the wrong… well extremity.

I find it alarming that Senator John McCain had a pool of more qualified female candidates to choose from but elected to bypass their accomplishments and their credentials for someone who is inept and has poor communication skills. Governor Sarah Palin is an opportunist so she can’ t be blamed for accepting a role she is ill equipped and inexperienced for. That poor judgment rests squarely on the shoulders of Senator John McCain…

Senator John McCain wants the electorate to overlook these shortcomings and pick him as the new quarterback… I don’t see him as a ‘game changer’... I see more fumbles with McCain at the quarterback position.

Seriously, are you going to let some arm chair quarterback come up with this little posting to try to convince us that Obama is going to be a great President? All of you simple minded people are letting the media tell you who to vote for. What has Obama done? He has only been a Senator for 2 years and now he's ready to run our country? Please...Then you have Joe Biden who isn't going to let anyone take away his two shotguns. Want to know why Governor Palin is receiving all of this attention? Because everyone finds her as a threat. Have you ever seen so much publicity given to a VP candidate? So all of you are going to tell me that Obama and Biden have never said or done anything wrong? The problem about politics is because everything gets twisted and now you hear the alternatate truth. Watch the debates, then you'll see why the McCain/Palin ticket will be the winning combo this year. When you have McCain and Palin debating you get the real answers on how things are going to be. Furthermore, I am sick and tired of everyone wanting to blame the Republicans for this economy. This goes all the way back to Alan Greenspan and wanting to lower the standards to increase reserves and credit. Ths country is based on a free capitalist society. It was the CEO's who were taking on more risk than they could take on. Also, for all you idiots who bought ARMS and Balloon payments for your mortgages. You cannot tell me that you did not look at your contracts and realize that your payments would not go up over time. Sure, the payments are nice initially, but look at history and you will see everything goes up. I have a fixed mortgage because I used my brain and didn't go for the easy payment initially because I knew where it could be. In addition, All of you Democrats have forgotten that it was your party pushing for the creation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.Lobbyist for McCain..Please...I'd rather have a bank lobbyist versus a slum lord who takes advantage of people and gives Obama special rates on property on the side. When it comes to this election, it will come down to how people have voted each election. Religion and oonservatism. Looks to me that the Republicans will be in office again for another 8 years. McCanin/Palin for life.

You think Obama with is mere 2yrs in as a junior senator knows any better? He only was present 130 times in the two yrs. The guys advising Obama about the economy were CEOs of Fannie and Freddie. What has been Obama's opinion on this? Not a word. Give me a break. Atleast McCain is Trying to fix. I am tired of the blame game, both parties have had congressional power to do so. Republicans before 2006, Democrates since 2006. Both Parties need to own up that they both caused this problem. No need to Bash President Bush. Congress writes the laws, not the President. He just signs or vetos what is presented to him by Congress.

To Travis and all you backing McSame:

If you read the bill S. 190 (Which McCain co-sponsored in 2005), its main goal was to pass the oversight buck from Congress to an “independent” trust for review. I’m not sure this is more regulation, it feels like deregulation by taking it out of congress and to an outside entity which faces the same regulation / deregulation arguments that Republicans and Democrats always have. The oversight entity created would likely have resembled the SEC, a “independent’ oversight group which McCain now blames for the problems and whose CEO McCain wants “fired”. The legislation would have created even more private companies that needed to be bailed out instead of a lump sum of private companies as well as Fannie and Freddie. And there was a reason McCain relied so heavily on his co-sponsorship of that failed bill: it’s the only one he has sponsored or co-sponsored during the last two Congresses that has anything to do with mortgage or banking reform.

The mismanagement and corruption of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is definitely a large issue, but due to the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999, the walls between banking, investment management, and insurance were broken down and these financial behemoth companies were allowed to come about. Without the repeal of this act, this situation would not have occurred.
Senator Gramm (who just happens to be McCains economic brain and top advisor) was a key author of that 1999 financial deregulation law that is now being blamed for the excesses that brought Wall Street to the point of collapse. This link shows a great video explaining stuff more in detail...thinkprogress.org McCain said something about Obama being in bed with special interests, which is interesting when you consider that McCain's campaign is dominated by lobbyists, such as Rick Davis, his campaign manager, who has accepted over $2 million from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Another misleading headline I've been hearing is that Obama recieved contributions from Fannie and Freddie, but check this out...Obama raised a lot of money from Fannie and Freddie, but via their employees. Corporations cannot give to candidates, so the center’s list adds up contributions from Fannie and Freddie employees and their families. Maybe McCain meant to say the Obama was in it with the fat cats of Fannie and Freddie, the directors and lobbyists? I sure hope not after reading this...
"The New York Times looked at contributions from Fannie and Freddie’s boards of directors and lobbyists, who are technically not employees. That analysis found Fannie and Freddie-related contributors gave $116,000 to John McCain and his related committees, compared with $16,000 to Obama and his related committees."

I find it interesting that McCain's campaign is blaming the dems for this debacle. What ever happend to the Keating Five? McCain was at the center of the savings and loan debacle of the late 1980s and early 1990s, which required another government bailout of $120 billion. Didn't he learn anything back then? The democrats certainly didn't do anything to prevent the republicans from deregulating the financial industry and creating the lawless environment we see today which has led to the abuses that caused the current crisis. Sure, all of this deregulation took place during the Clinton administration, and it was passed (veto proof) by a majority republican house. This whole mess of a mess was created by a mass of deregulators, who now have the gall to try and tell the us, the American people how to fix the mess that they have caused. We're paying some fat cat's salary with our taxes! How is that fair? And isn't McCain a self-proclaimed deregulator? It is scary to think that if president, he will be the man who will be responsible for reigning in the companies he has made a career out of setting free. In the face of a $700 billion bailout, energy prices going up and house prices falling and a trillion dollar war, it's time for some new thinking in Washington. (I was going to say change, but McCain stole Obama's campaign tagline.)

Thank You Betty. These people DO need to pray before they go to the polls...........And Terry...you are right about the Federal Reserve...Our dollar should be backed by GOLD instead of worthless paper.... As for McCain being corrupt....I would have to strongly disagree, in his 26 years as Senator, he has taken VERY LITTLE ( IF ANY ) money for pork barrell projects for his state. He is probably one of the most Honest and Patriotic politicians that this country has ever seen........
  • Betty
This is not right Obama has big ties with Fannie May. Why dosen't he give the money back that he got . Do you idiots think if Obama gets into office you will be better off. He is raiseing taxes . And if you think that it will not get you . You are so wrong . Your price will go up at the store to pay for their higher taxes. I say BRFORE YOU GO TO THE POLES PRAY. OPEN YOUR EYES

Pushing for deregulation is not the root cause - it's the Federal Reserve Bank that "creates" money and offers it to Wall Street at artificially low interest rates (easy credit), which then spurs Wall Street to malinvest (make bad decisions with easy money). When their financial empire doesn't provide the returns, they expect taxpayers to bail them out. People shouldn't have to pay for Wall Street's mistakes.

It's actually worse than this - the money that is created is a debt. Each dollar created requires more than itself to pay itself back. It's technically impossible to pay back any of this money-debt. Although the IRS is used to collect this interest, the principle remains and gets higher each time the Fed creates more of their money-debt.

The solution is to not only end easy credit, but to end creation of money-debt. End the Federal Reserve and return to sound money - something that can't be manipulated. Precious metals take great effort to find and excavate, which is why it has been historically stable and sound. This is the Constitutional authority that was adopted and for the very reasons we are facing today. McCain is undoubtedly corrupt, but he or his cronies are not the root - the 93 year old Federal Reserve is.

Annoy your Congresscritters and tell them to support:
    * HR2755 - Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act
    * HR4683 - Free Competition in Currency Act
    * HR2756 - Honest Money Act

Susan, you are dead wrong.....Yes McCain has called for deregulation on certain aspects of government, BUT NOT ON THE ISSUES WITH FREDDIE AND FANNIE. Do some homework before making false accusations and quoting some liberal kool-aid drinker who has written a useless book........
  • Susan Norman
Naomi Klein in her book, "Shock Doctrine" talks about this trend and position on regulation. The McCain types have long fought for deregulation on everything and look what a mess it has gotten us into. These are the Chicago School of Economics Boys that go in and ransack the economy and then profit off it. Shock and Awe. Please Americans, don't let them do this to our country. Bush will burn the White House behind him and we will be glad to see him go. But let's be certain his buddies do not profit off their ransacking of the economy! Watch out for the Cheneys sitting in the wings to rape and pillage our economy.

You idiots are so misguided to try and blame McCain and his policies for this mess. Both George W. Bush and McCain have SEVERAL TIMES over the last few years tried to get congress to do something about the problems with Freddie and Fannie. The democrats always block any proposals laid in front of them. You people should be ashamed of yourself for spreading lies about the President and Senator McCain. If you idiot socialists get Obama into office, I don't want to hear you complain when this country goes down the sewer !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • srk
McSame was part of a GOP congressional majority for 6 years. And he did have W in the White House. What did he accomplish? He has experience alright, experience being the friend of corporations and lobbyists. Until recently he has supported DEregulation. Now he's against it I guess. Who knows.
  • Rodney
The problem with these kind of baked "sound bite" videos is taking statements out of context. Sure John McCain may have been against some regulations that would constrict the economy. However since 2001 he has been trying to pass regulations to call for accountability on Wall Street & especially Fannie Mae. Anyone who read the news (not conservative or liberal) would have known that John was trying to pass controls on Wall Street. Pelosi and her bunch thwarted the attempts. Instead of regulations on a few businesses we now have the choice of massive bailouts or a recession. The point by point comparison condemns the innaction of Pelosi's congress.

Actually, Obama also just publicly stated that the fundamentals were strong.
You're obviously either 1) sincere, but ill-informed, 2) a fool/useful idiot for the socialists, or 3) a socialist, willing to subvert the facts in order to achieve power, in order to orchestrate your perverted utopia, blind to history. Real brave...Lenin is smiling upon you.

This is excellent. I've sent it on to others. Thank you.
