It seems that we forget, at times, that it is the "mass" media. I don't know why we would like to think that times have changed. Times have gotten better, but they have not necessarily changed. Many people know that "FOX News" is not an objective or un-biased source nor is it a news outlet in line with the codes of journalistic practice. The problem is that they advertise themselves as such. See the FOX News symbol on the bottom left of the screen.

The question is should the FCC enforce truth in advertising? If FOX News is a news organization it should follow journalism practices of news worthiness before airing the "news" through their outlet.

Ray you need to re-read the study you are citing. Nowhere does it say that Fox is the most fair, it actually says that Brit Hume is right of center. It said "The most centrist outlet proved to be the NewsHour With Jim Lehrer." Maybe if you read articles yourself you would have a clear picture of the world around you. And, your attempts to smear fox with clips from CNN, and the John Stewart show which not fox, just illustrates both the lack of evidence to support your claim that fox is unfair, and your dishonesty. How can you be honest and use clips from John Stewart, which is a non fox, comedy show, to illustrate Fox's inadequacies. Fox has nothing to do with the Stewart show, and it is comedy not news, yet you offer a clip of Stewart making a joke as an example of unfairness at Fox. It is evident to me that Fox is biased, but when they were praising Obama as the Golden One and tearing Hillary to shreds it seems that noone had a problem with them.

Healthcare Issue: Has anyone ever wondered why health insurance is so unaffordable??? Ponder this: When hospitals and doctors raise their prices continuously the insurance companies have to pay the price for you, then in turn they have to raise the cost of your insurance to cover it. The price of a bandaid used in the local ER costs $50 and that was 4 years ago. The insurance companies have no choice but to cover the costs. Next time you go to the ER or doctors office take your own supply of alcohol wipes, bandaids, cotton balls, etc. and see if they'll let you use your own to keep the bill down to an affordable rate.

Fair and balance my eye! Tell me another good joke…

Fox always does a good job at putting "their" people in good light. I am not sure which segment it was, sometime ago, back in Jan 07, I think it was Hanity who flashed up a photo of Obama. The photo they presented was very dark and done so purposefully. People forget, they are not just presenting verbally, but also visually and it is very subtle and they do it all the time.

I am good with Photoshop and know how to manipulate photos and this shot was definitely manipulated to make Obama look dark in contrast to their very brightly lit studios and very tidy and neat suits and brightly lit presenters, they were giving you their version of fair and balanced. Every aspect of this show is manipulated to make you see things in their way of lighting.

Fox presenters are always well dressed, well lit and groomed to give themselves the appearance of power and authority and that is all fair, but when you present a picture of someone, don’t intentionally present one that makes someone look worse – it’s a scam how they present what they call news.

This goes to the core of what these people are doing which is manipulating information. It's nothing new, just taken to a new subtle low level.

Fox news is a joke and I mean it in the most literal terms with respect to fair and balanced. Wake up America. I wonder at times when I watch Fox that it really should be on Comedy Central. Fox really is a joke and I do laugh out loud.

I watch NBC news and only the weather, fox is a joke! They do have last comic standing.

Fox wants to insist that Obama attended a "madrassa" because they find that word scary. Why does the word scare them? Because it's the Arabic word for something else they find equally scary: "school". Any place where people actually LEARN is frightening to Fox Noise, because more educated people tend to be more liberal and less inclined to buy into false propaganda.

I knew from the begining when they came out with the solgan "Fair and balance" a year before al franken wrote his book. I sent a email to Fox news about all their lies.

I think so many people miss the point when they start trying to label one media outlet 'liberal' or one media outlet 'conservative'. There are no news network on television that responsibly report the truth, at least not that I can find. So what if one is left and one is right, each of them have talking heads that only say things that infuriate people driving a wedge deeper between us keeping us from paying attention to what is most important, progress.

Each news organization, and CNN is just as bad as FOX, has only one group that it considers it self responsible to, its investors. And it just so happens that for each network these investors include CEO's and lobbyists for insurance companies, oil companies, pharmaceuticals, you name it. How convenient it is also when companies can tailor their employees retirement options to include the stock of other companies that want to mantain control over and call it 'diversification'. The mainstream media is only concerned with the almighty dollar.

Now by no means do I mean to say that CNN and FOX are on the same level, because FOX deliberately changes the facts and abuses minorties and people who disagree with them, but CNN is bad too. If you don't believe me watch Micheal Moore's interview with Wolf Blitzer (by the way I'm not a Moore fan) because there is a moment when Wolf is arguing with him about CNN's reporting and sponsership where he says that CNN "is a business" and think about that in context with the idea of an independent media that the constitution garuntees and the fact that the airwaves are supposed to be publicly owned. There are several other interviews that Wolf and other CNN say similar things including that they are the "voice of the people" which they are not.

But, to wrap this up, stop watching network news if you want to see your news watch anything on PBS. Otherwise listen to programs like Democracy Now, read the Nation, heck if you want partisanship listen to Rush at least he portrays what he says as opinions not passing them of for the news.

Fox News is a simple case of liars selling garbage to idiots. Using the term "fair and balanced" to describe their philosophy is like using "Peacekeeper" to describe a guided missile or "The Patriot Act" to describe legislation that has gutted the Constitution. Never make the mistake of confusing Fox News with the truth. Every time I pass by a television set tuned to Fox News, I feel like taking a shower.

Fox was never a reliable source of news, and never will be. The do not represent American values or justice. They have no merit in reporting fair or accurate news stories, and are racially biased against all minorites. Thier pundits have an agenda of talking points they are instructed to adhere to. They will even stoop to slander to achieve thier ends. Fox is not even news, let alone 'fair and balanced' entertainment.

I used to watch NBC until Stone Phillips had to apologize for faking the exploding side gas-tanks on pick-up trucks story ... so I jumped to CBS ...

But after Dan Rather reported on GW's military papers as factual and truthfull, that later turned out to be bogus, I left CBS and Dan Rather(bias) to Fox. Plus I couldn't stomach Katie "whoa-is-me" Kurick.

Where's is one to go for any unbiased news?

It's laughable the labels use to describe Liberals ... Hey Conservs, read on ...

The American Heritage Dictionary (AHD) defines Conservative as “Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change. 2. Traditional or restrained in style”.
The AHD defines Liberal as “ Not limited to, or by, established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad minded.”
The Red State/Conservative/Republican (RCR) side prefers things stay the way they have always been, and the idea of change or different opinions bothers them.
The Blue State/Liberal/Democratic side prefers not to be ruled by an authoritative government, like so many Communist States have been in the past and remain in the present. But despite this truth, many Republicans feel the need to use such colorful adjectives as Bleeding Heart, Pinko (a person who is sympathetic to the Communist cause), and yes, even Commy, when describing a Liberal.
How can anyone who favors reform and progress while being tolerant of ideas and behaviors other than theirs accept Communism? After all, the AHD defines Communism as “A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power.” Isn’t that exactly what Liberal Democrats (and Liberal Republicans) try to protect us from? To avoid the rule of a single entity (like “The Decider”) who decides what is or isn’t best for our society.
How can anyone who is Liberal be for an authoritarian government (as is the essence of a Communist State)? The AHD defines authoritarian as “Characterized by or favoring absolute obedience to authority, as against individual freedom: an authoritarian regime. 2. Of, relating to, or expecting unquestioning obedience”. Aren’t Liberals the ones who want all of us to have the right to question, to not succumb to an all powering government wanting to rule our lives?
How can anyone believe RCRs really know the definition of a Commy/Pinko when they use such terms to describe a Liberal? Seems hard to believe they do. After all, Authoritarian/Communist governments and their supporters resist change, and want absolute power, to have their people follow authority without question, to keep with the status quo. Do these sound like Liberal traits? They sound more like RCR ones.

Audra is right. Liberals are so afraid of any point of view that is not identical to their own, they try to silence it. Conservatives who watch network news have to put up with the clear liberal bias every day. Personally, I watch the NBC nightly news and the CBS evening news every night, and am amazed at the blatant left-wing bias, but I don't go around demanding they be shut down! Liberals are so used to seeing their views presented in the media as the American consensus, when they see more objective, balanced news, they think it is right-wing propaganda, and they are deeply offended by it. Why not calm down and give the other side a chance to get a word in?

It seems to me that the other news stations are a "propaganda machine" for the Democratic party. So there's a station presenting things from a different aspect, and that's not okay with you Democrats. One type bias works but not the other....interesting.

I think it is unfortunate that a medium of this caliber feels the need to block truths and perpetuate ignorance. Whether white or black, we all have a responsibility to heal all communities within this nation. I personally do not rely on the words the Fox network. I really do hope this encourages all African Americans to read and do their own research and become more socially aware within our community. As for letting Fox host the election debate, it would be a grave mistake. Present an unbias forum and let truth prevail, as it always does. I just prefer it be sooner that later.

I am african and I have seen Fox News before. I for one am a big supporter of Fox News. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Have you ever thought that what Fox News sais about black people is the truth? There way of living and culture is different to white people. Why can't a white person like me have a TV channel that supports the same views as me. If there was a TV channel dedicated to black people that would be deemed acceptable but when it's the other way round the black community are up in arms about it, although I'm not saying Fox News is exclusively for white people. We shouldn't have to bow down to them all the time. There's even a black music award event which is also seen as acceptable. The more the U.S.A becomes multi cultural the more these arguments will surface. I get the feeling that white people arn't allowed to say anything which is negitive to the black community even if it's the truth. We shouldn't have to keep are mouths shut when it comes to these issues.

FOX has survived on supporting a biased and hurtful agenda against minorities, women and democrats. They have engaged in hate propoganda against these groups and participated in acts that stand against everything the US Constitution stands for at it's core.

I'm a believer in holding people to their own rhetoric. Look at FOX Entertainment: Does that look 'conservative'? Same ownership, same name, same sensationalization and appeal to base instincts. In all aspects, the name FOX has led in the race to the bottom in the lowering of standards and practices in broadcasting, be it entertainment or journalism. If FOX news wants to be taken seriously - and they don't - they would examine their own entertainment content and clean up their own house first before attacking others. Conservatives should hold Rupert Murdock to their own rhetoric.

"Things" like "blame whitey" and "robbey dee" show how ignorant the "other" race is. A race who supports a president like this country has, who is without good reason killing mostly their kind, a race who has "girls gone wild" a bunch of wild immoral sluts who take off their clothes at any whim. A race who produced :The son of sam and all the serial killers who don't care who they kill. A race of crooked politicians who don't care about ignorant people as the named above. A race who doesn't know anything about history and the fact that "AFRICAN AMERICANS' built this country but since the other race has taken over ,it has gone to hell. At the heart of all this madness is the FCC. Their deregulation of ownership of radio and television outlets is absolutely outrageous. The regulations forbidding one person or group from owning too many newspaper companies, radio stations, and tv stations in one market were there to protect the PEOPLE from bias and propaganda. They were deregulated by none other than the son of Colin Powell, FCC Chairman Michael Powell ( mpowell@fcc.gov ). This allowed Rupert Murdoch, Clear Channel, and others to buy up huge portions of market share and spew their hatred and lies with impunity. Many people still believe that when you read it in print, see it on the news, or hear it on the radio news, then it must be true.

People are in control of markets, but there seems to be very little solidarity and mass protest in the offing lately. Thankfully, there are grass roots organizations like this one to give people a voice. Contrary to what they'd have you believe, the values of the Republican party are the values of a vocal minority. They NEVER had the majority of people behind them, but some people buy what they're selling. I look at the political landscape and ask how someone living at or below the poverty line can vote Republican? Because the neo-cons are the new carpetbaggers, selling overpriced garbage to you while picking your pocket. As long as some are willing to fall for this foolishness, then our work as educators, protesters, and responsible citizens will not be over.
