I know, I normally wouldn't give them publicity, but their ads lately are so very sad that they deserve a good mocking.
One thing the NRSC presumably can do, is look at polls (although we're not sure about that either, as numbers are involved, and their fundraising and recruiting would imply they're still learning integers). And polls say Mark Udall will be the next Senator from Colorado.
So the NRSC put out the updated version of the Osama ad, you know the scary commercials that ensured people like Sherrod Brown, Jon Tester and Claire McCaskill never got elected to the Senate. Oh, right.
So about this ad. It is an utter fabrication. But then again, what's new with Republicans?
When you've wrecked the economy, not caught bin Laden, or al-Zwahiri, or Mullah Omar, etc., when you lied your way into Iraq and have allowed healthcare and housing crises to brew at home, you can only make up lies about one of the worst records by a party governing unilaterally (2000-2006), well, ever.
So let me quote my pal Zappatero over at Square State on this (a great blog for all things Colorado, btw):
Here's the lie: Democrats have voted to give terrorists the same rights as Americans.
Here's the truth as found in the text of the bill:
'CLARIFICATION OF ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE OF NON-UNITED STATES PERSONS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES'Sec. 105A. (a) Foreign to Foreign Communications-
(1) IN GENERAL - Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, a court order is not required for electronic surveillance directed at the acquisition of the contents of any communication between persons that are not known to be United States persons and are reasonably believed to be located outside the United States for the purpose of collecting foreign intelligence information, without respect to whether the communication passes through the United States or the surveillance device is located within the United States.
You see that? Pretty easy, even for Republicans who are at roughly the same reading level as Billy Madison. To summarize: If you're not a U.S. citizen and located outside of this country there is NO COURT ORDER NECESSARY.
But Republicans don't want an honest debate. They want to listen into phone calls of American citizens who are not suspected of being terrorists, probably so they can find yet another way to corrupt our political process without making us an ounce safer.
There you have it. The pathetic and pathologically shameless National Republican Senatorial Committee strikes again with their constant stream of lies.
