It just seems like today's news lays out in the most obvious of ways what a complete and utter failure George W. Bush has been as our President.
You want the most crippling economic administration for $200, Alex? Ok, how about this truly staggering piece called "Obligations Ignored" by Scott Horton of Harper's:
With the arrival of George W. Bush, all proper stewardship of the economy has been thrown to the winds in favor of a quick joy ride for a team of power-crazy leaders. The cost of this presidency, put in dollars and cents through today, is $32 trillion dollars. That's a 150% increase in exposure since the reins of office were handed to George W. Bush.
At the same time, the really, truly wealthy-the top half per cent of income earners in the United States-have spectacularly increased their wealth. This accumulation of wealth can be linked directly to the skyrocketing national debt. It's as if a team of professional burglars were set loose within the national treasury.
Isn't that special? Heckuva job Bushie! Oh, but it gets worse. Much worse. Remember how he was going to catch bin Laden "dead or alive." Al Qaeda would be destroyed because we had Daddy Cowboy coming to the rescue! Yeah, not so much.
In fact, it turns out that if you have media credentials, and would like to submit an online question to Ayman Al Zwahiri--Al Qaeda's number two--he's taking inquiries as we speak (hell, he may be live blogging at his new new blog, bushfailedtocatchushaha.com):
Al Qaeda has invited journalists to send questions to its No. 2 figure, Ayman al-Zawahri, in the first such interview offer by the increasingly media-savvy terror network since the 9/11 attacks.
The invitation is a new twist in Al Qaeda's campaign to reach a broader audience, and represents an attempt by al-Zawahri to present himself as a sophisticated leader rather than a mass murderer.
I think their media capability is sophisticated as ever," said Bruce Hoffman, a terrorism expert and professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. "It shows how this group with 7th-Century ideology is exploiting 21st-Century media capabilities."
Isn't that even more special. The thing is, they wouldn't be able to exploit technology or anything else for that matter if they were dead. Which they're not. Because Bush is President.
So on both foreign policy and economics, President Bush has been as lame as Bob Dole without little red pills and the results have been truly disastrous for this country. I'll let Bob Cesca provide the coup de grace here, and encourage you to watch the very funny "You're So Lame" video produced by the talented folks over at barelypolitical.com:
We know his disgraceful deeds and policies. But it's his utter lack of quality; his unsubstantial presence; his marble-mouthed oratorical retardation; his inability to inspire greatness; and his empty-suit absence of intellectual curiosity which preordained him to be the worst President of the United States in modern history.
Sadly, for our country, this is spot on.
