During testimony today in the Scooter Libby trial, it was revealed that in 2003 CIA Director George Tenet wanted the White House to remove the part in Bush's State of the Union speech that claimed Saddam Hussein had sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. The CIA knew the the claim was false. But the White House was desperate to make the case for war, even if it meant tricking the American public into thinking that Saddam Hussein had nuclear capabilities.
Hardball's David Shuster explained that the White House rebutted the CIA's efforts to make sure correct intelligence was put into the speech -- just months before the start of the Iraq war.
