WASHINGTON, DC—The filmmaker behind a controversial documentary critical of contractors in Iraq will testify at a hearing on Capitol Hill Thursday, detailing his knowledge of the many private corporations profiteering from the reconstruction, including Blackwater, CACI, and KBR/Halliburton
Robert Greenwald, the acclaimed director of Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers, will testify at a hearing of the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense this Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 2359 Rayburn. The hearing, Contracting Out, begins at 10:00 am.
Iraq for Sale is the story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war. Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.
Filmmaker and political activist Robert Greenwald is the director/producer of Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers (2006), as well as Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (2005), detailing the retail giant's assault on families and American values; and Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism (2004), about the right-wing opinion factory known as Fox "News" Channel. Millions of viewers have seen these films via grassroots "house parties" and independent online DVD sales, a groundbreaking method of alternative distribution.
Greenwald has recently committed to creating and distributing a series of short issue advocacy viral videos over the course of 2007. Over 1 million people have watched the first four videos, with many more virals in the pipeline. You may have seen his work in "Fox Attacks: Obama," which took on Fox's anti-Sen. Obama coverage. Together with Move On, the Netroots and grassroots activists, Greenwald's Brave New Films used the viral to spur the petitions that eventually saw the Democratic Party pull the plug on the Fox News debate.
