Senator Jim Webb is one of the rising stars in the Democratic Party. Webb is a decorated Marine who served in Vietnam and was former Secretary of the Navy under the Reagan administration. In 2006, he was elected senator of Virginia after defeating the Republican incumbent George Allen in a tight and closely watched race. I spoke with him today about how he sees the challenges facing America and the future of the Democratic party.

Nelson Mandela celebrated his 90th birthday last Friday. To mark the occasion, we celebrated the South African leader's life and legacy with two people who have known him and his country well -- Time Magazine's Rick Stengel who helped Mandela with his autobiography and Chief Justice Margaret Marshall of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court who originally hails from South Africa. We also looked back to some of our interviews with prominent South African leaders including Mandela himself.

Mountain gorillas are an endangered species with some 700 alive. Nearly half of these animals live in Virunga National Park which borders Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The gorillas are caught in the middle of the Congo's ongoing civil war between militia groups and the Congolese Army. This month's National Geographic magazine, along with a companion documentary, uncovers the question: "Who murdered the mountain gorillas?" I spoke with three people who know firsthand the plight these gorillas face: Dr. Emmanuel de Merode, a conservationist based in the park; Brent Stirton, a photojournalist who captured images for National Geographic; and Godefroid Wambale a wildlife warden from Virunga.

The American public school system has long been under scrutiny and in
crisis. However, there is growing sentiment that large scale reform could
be possible. In anticipation of the 2008 election, I have been conducting a
series of interviews on education, sponsored by the Eli and Edythe Broad
Foundation.
Most recently I spoke to four of our nation's best teachers, all of them
recent winners of the National Teacher of the Year award. Here is some of
what Michael Geisen, Jason Kamras, Kimberly Oliver, and Kathy Mellor had to say about standardized testing, merit pay, and other features of the current educational climate:
