When Republican presidential candidate John McCain got in a fight with the New York Times editorial page this week, Fox News was right there to stick to the McCain campaign talking points even when confronted with contradicting facts. To show you what I mean, I put together the several clips in this video.
From Daily Kos:
VoteVets has a new ad featuring Brandon Woods, an Iraq War veteran from New York.
In the ad, Brandon says, "What did we fight for in Iraq? I have some idea. I fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom. And "freedom" means when the Iraqi people and their Prime Minister ask us to make a plan to leave, we do. But, Senator McCain would occupy Iraq indefinitely, against their wishes. That's not what freedom means. That's not what we fought for. Senator, I thought you would know better."

In a new installment of Bush League Justice today, guest Julian Epstein, former counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, stated that Republicans will admit, off-camera, that the case against former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman was fixed.
The segment concentrated on Karl Rove finally giving written answers to questions, NOT under oath, about the Siegelman case. The questions, which were posed by Lamar Smith (R-TX), and answers can be read at Talking Points Memo.
While the general consensus is that the softball questions were a "pathetic attempt to save Karl Rove," the effort appears to have failed. In the video above, Epstein states that Rove actually appears to "incriminate" himself by refusing to answer a specific question about whether he contacted non-state officials.
Marcy Wheeler agrees with Epstein over at emptywheel: "In a classic non-denial denial, Karl Rove makes it clear that he did talk to people about Siegelman's prosecution--even while he denies that he spoke to anyone in DOJ about it." And Larisa Alexandrovna thinks, "This is getting to be rather fun," before proceeding to rip apart Rove's answer with the facts. She also poses six real questions she'd like to see asked of Rove.

This sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Well, it's not. We have a unique opportunity right now to send Karl Rove to jail, but only if we take immediate action.
All we have to do is pressure the 40 members of the House Judiciary Committee, make them hold Rove in contempt and send him to jail. We've never had such a direct opportunity to hold Rove accountable. No, this is not enough punishment for his years and years of crimes, but it's a huge start, and will send a very clear message to the entire Bush administration.
We put together this video to explain the issues surrounding Rove's failure to testify before Congress, and why Rove should be held in contempt and sent to jail. Check out Send Karl Rove to Jail, and sign our petition to ensure that the HJC holds Rove in contempt.
Today at 1pm ET / 10am PT, the first episode of Meet the Bloggers will air live, and Karl Rove will be the big topic of discussion with bloggers Marcy Wheeler, Liliana Segura, Baratunde Thurston, and special guest Arianna Huffington. The video will be featured on the show, sign the petition, forward it to friends (don't forget to Digg it), and go to meetthebloggers.org to send in your own thoughts, and join the discussion at 1pm ET.
If you can't watch live, you can always see what was discussed on the show anytime you want at meetthebloggers.org.

This from the AP:
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Obama said attacks on his wife are "infuriating." The likely Democratic presidential nominee blamed the conservative press for going after his wife as if she were the candidate.
"If they have a difference with me on policy, they should debate me. Not her," Obama told the magazine.
Rightly so. Really, has anyone ever seen a Republican candidate’s wife get attacked the way the Republicans and the media go after the wives of Democrats? And don’t give me the line that the “discussion” about Michelle Obama’s patriotism is actually a real issue, because it isn’t unless you believe the paranoid Republican myth that a first lady who isn’t appropriately patriotic would encourage the destruction of her own country. Besides, John McCain has repeatedly said he “really didn’t love America” until he was a POW, and McCain’s “econ brain” Phil Gramm recently said that America is a “nation of whiners,” and no one has questioned their patriotism or the effect it could have on a (shudder) McCain presidency.

You know how we're always attempting to make an impact with our films?
We helped spread the word about hard-hitting documentaries like Outfoxed, Wal-Mart, and Iraq for Sale. Brave New Films, then started making its own short videos like The REAL McCain and our FOX Attacks series, and you saw the chance to reach even more people by spreading them all over the web. Well, with a great deal of excitement (and just a wee bit of nervousness!), we bring you the next way for you to get involved.
Presenting our newest weekly series: Meet the Bloggers.
Beginning July 18, Meet the Bloggers will be a daring new show broadcast LIVE over the internet each Friday at 1PM ET. And the best part is this show is all yours. You will be part of creating the show, telling us what questions we should ask our high-profile guests; what issues we should be talking about; and what actions should be taken. You can also interact with other audience members using a live blog and instant polls.
The O'Reilly freakout meets the Straight Talk Express.

John McCain's campaign has explicitly said that questions about Obama's patriotism are off limits, but McCain's highest-profile surrogates have embarked on a new round of efforts to raise questions about Obama's American-ness, for lack of a better word -- with no objection yet from the McCain camp.
The occasion for the latest insinuations about Obama's American-ness is the Illinois Senator's recent claim that Americans should learn a second language. "You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual," Obama told a crowd the other day, adding that it was "embarrassing" that Europeans can speak English while Americans can't communicate in other languages abroad.
