DISCLAIMER: I AM A GRADUATE OF UCSC, CLASS OF 2006. If Horowitz is going to be brought on to slander the University of California - Santa Cruz, should there not be someone who actually teaches there, gone to school there, or has some other experience on the campus to defend the school? Is UCSC a liberal school? Yes, there is no denying that. In fact, that's one reason that I chose to go there. I actually majored in Community Studies, which is a remnant of 60s-era protest and political organizing, and is one of the most liberal majors on campus (perhaps including Feminist Studies and the History of Consciousness programs). YES, I took classes on Marxism. YES, I took classes on political organizing (some may even have used the word revolution). BUT, guess what, my senior advisor was actually quite conservative and thought my thesis paper was too left, too radical. AND I CHOOSE COMMUNITY STUDIES AND THESE COURSES BECAUSE I WANTED TO TAKE THEM. There are many, many majors which are not liberal. I started out as an Environmental Studies major, which was very much about biology and chemistry. I went to school at three different colleges (private, public, different states), so I have room to compare. UCSC had one of the highest levels of education, an amazing faculty, and a beautiful campus. I would not have traded my years of "indoctrination" at UCSC for anything. |

Absolutely horrifying. Absolutely horrifying - both the crime and the lack of media coverage. Let us hope the justice system does not fail us - in both cases. Free the Jena 6. Prosecute the West Virginia 6. |

Props to Elizabeth Edwards for being so outspoken on LGBT rights and equality. Here she is addressing the Human Rights Campaign San Francisco dinner a couple of days ago. Elizabeth also set off headlines on June 24th, when she spoke at the San Francisco Gay Pride parade saying she supported same-sex marriage. Elizabeth stated, “I don’t know why someone else’s marriage has anything to do with me.”

The NY Times article had a good point that these media outlets promote sexuality through their programming, but then refuse to promote RESPONSIBLE safe sex by denying condom ads air time. |

Not only has the Bush administration lied to the American people, but they have obstructed justice to cover their own asses. Not even Nixon had the audacity to tell John Dean (his White House counsel) to not testify before Congress! Bush told Harriet Myers (his White House counsel) that she could not appear before Congress this past week! And Sarah Taylor (Bush's aide) incorrectly said to Congress this past week that she took an OATH TO THE PRESIDENT! The President! She took an oath to the Constitution! Get it straight, Sarah. Who is your responsibility to??? The American People! |

Hmmm ... that's weird, every fourth grader knows that the VP is part of the executive branch. How did Dick Cheney's counsel overlook that? |

WTF ... any serious journalist or public figure would not lower themselves to such mudslinging. I agree with RobertPaul, why do they let this woman on television! |

Also to respond to Horowitz's comment about the class on prisons. I believe he is talking about Angela Davis' course on the prison industrial complex.
Angela Davis is a former black panther and she is one of the most highly regard professors on campus. Her classes were always full on the first day of registration, and there was a long waiting list. She is a highly renowned academic.
We, as laypeople, have a lot of misperceptions about prisons that we get from news (like you, Fox), movies, and other media. Why should we not read books which perhaps show us a different perspective than the one we are used to hearing?
