Jacqueline Murekatete is internationally recognized for her work as a Human Rights Activist and genocide survivors’ advocate, speaking out for victims and survivors of genocide. Born in Rwanda in 1984, Jacqueline was not yet ten when she lost her entire immediate and extended family to the 1994 Rwandan Tutsi genocide.

For her work, Jacqueline has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Global Peace and Tolerance award from the United Nations, the Scandinavian Sprit award from the American Jewish Committee, a humanitarian award from the Anti-Defamation League; an honorary award from New York University at the 175th commencement ceremony, and most recently the United Nations International Peace Ambassadors’ outstanding humanitarian award.

Jacqueline is the founder and program director of Jacqueline’s Human Rights corner, a genocide prevention education program founded in April 2007, under the umbrella of Miracle Corners of the World (MCW), an internationally recognized non-profit organization based in New York City.

In Partnership with MCW, Jacqueline’s Human Rights Corner is currently working to develop genocide prevention education curriculums for young people, and to build a community center in Rwanda which will aim to empower genocide survivors to rebuild their lives, and to become agents of positive change in their country and in the world at large.

Ben Rigby graduated from Stanford University with Honors, Distinction, and Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to co-found Akimbo Design, a web design firm that created and managed the consumer web sites for The North Face, Beringer Vineyards, and California Pizza Kitchen and completed award-winning projects for Nokia, Sony Pictures, MGM, Calvin Klein, and Macromedia.
His company produced three Web design books, won dozens of awards, and had work featured in major media publications such as Newsweek, the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today.

In 2002, Ben took a position as CTO of DFILM, a youth entertainment company creating web and mobile applications. At DFILM, he managed the launch of a youth-focused communication platform in partnership with KPN, the largest wireless operator in the Netherlands. He also launched a viral application that is consistently used by 300,000 unique users per month and has been licensed by Yahoo!, Sam Adams, IBM, the Sierra Club, and Old Navy.

In 2004, Rigby founded and became co-executive director of Mobile Voter.

ATHENS, June 3 (Reuters) - Tibetan activists on Tuesday urged the International Olympic Committee to cancel the Olympic torch relay in Tibet and said there was still time to press China on human rights.
The group that has disrupted the torch relay along its route from ancient Olympia through European capitals said it was determined to continue the protests and would try to lobby IOC officials meeting in Athens this week.
"There is still time to pressure China, this is a moment that won't come again," Lhadon Tethong, head of the Students For a Free Tibet, told a news conference in Athens.

Now, they will make their case for a new "politics of possibility" to replace the old "politics of limits" - from environmentalism to liberalism to conservatism - grounded in changing social values and an expansive new vision of the future - Commonwealth Club of California

Ted Nordhaus is an author, researcher, and political strategist. He is co-author of Break Through and The Death of Environmentalism. Over the last twenty years, Ted has run major campaigns and initiatives for a large assortment of environmental and progressive political causes including the Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), the Sierra Club, Environmental Defense, and Clean Water Action.

He also served as the Campaign Director for Share the Water, a coalition of environmentalists, fishermen, farmers, and urban water agencies advocating reform of federal water policies in California, Executive Director of the Headwaters Sanctuary Project, and as a partner and political strategist with Next Generation and Evans/McDonough strategy and research firms serving political campaigns and environmental organizations. Ted holds a B.A. in history from the University of California.

Adam Werbach was the former president of the Sierra Club. He is currently the president of Act Now Productions and Iron Weed Films. He is also a member of th San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

There is this ongoing rhetoric, this feeling, this jibberish that I have heard way too many times. “Young people don’t count, young people aren’t doing anything, young people don’t vote.” I bought into it at first, but now, I’m at a point where I don’t want to ever hear that garbage again. The first time that sentiment rubbed me the wrong way was when Tom Brokaw released The Greatest Generation. He was doing his publicity tour, and he made some comment about how the current young generation – which happened to be my generation – Generation X, was spoiled, and had never really had to fight for anything. This was three years before 9/11, five years before we were dragged into an illegal war. All we had lived through was the ridiculous impeachment of our president over an extramarital affair.

At the time no one was considering the fact that Generation X would be the generation responsible for dealing with the ramifications of years of imperialism around the world. Generation X would be responsible for finding alternative energy solutions once we’d exhausted all other resources. The “apathetic” generation would be trying to correct the economic disparity not only in the US, but throughout the world for years to come. Gen X’ers and generations to follow would be faced with the types of challenges previous generations had never even fathomed. Quite a bit for the slacker generation.

Around election time, it gets worse. News stories always come out about how some candidate is the “youth” candidate – how they’re drumming up support among young voters, and how it doesn’t matter because – young people are not going to show up and vote on Election Day. No, they’ll probably just be passed out, drunk somewhere. I mean that’s what they’re getting at, right? It just isn’t true. From 2000 – 2004 there was a 4.3 million jump in youth voters.
