Artur Genestre Davis has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 2003, representing Alabama's 7th congressional district. This district encompasses the counties of Choctaw, Sumter, Greene, Perry, Hale, Dallas, Wilcox, and Marengo. It also includes parts of Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Pickens and Clarke Counties.

Eve Fairbanks is The New Republic's Associate Editor and congressional correspondent. A graduate of Yale, she joined The New Republic in 2005. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Details, and on NPR.

He spoke with The UpTake's Ken Avidor about Monica Goodling, a former US Attorney and Bush political appointee, who is accused of finagling the firings of several left-leaning attorneys in order to, as Ellison says,"make sure she infuses the federal bureaucracy with a right-wing stamp."

Eliison also addresses the controversial Don Siegelman case, in which the former Democratic governor of Alabama was yanked out of office to fight corruption charges. A corrupt politician isn't news these days. What is news? The fact that Karl Rove has been accused of cooking up fictional scenarios to politically decapitate Siegelman, and has subsequently ignored subpeonas demanding he answer the charge. QUESTIONER: "What's your plan to support agriculture in the State of Alabama?"

JOHN MCAIN: "I would do a lot of things. And I gotta tell you what I won't do because I've got to give you straight talk. I won't support subsidies. I won't do that because I believe that subsidies are unnecessary . . . my job and I will do this, is to open up every market in the world to the products of the most efficient agriculture people in the world and that's the American farmer [applause]. I'm not afraid of foreign competition. I'm not afraid that some farmer in some other part of the world will, uh, undersell the most efficient, the most productive worker in the world and that's American agricultural workers. And I'll open those markets to them. Now if they compete unfairly, if they close their markets to ours, then I will take retaliation through things that we have vehicles to do so, like the WTO and others. But I am worried, and you should be worried . . . one of the greatest problems . . . is that bakers and grocers, the next step in the chain, are deeply concerned about inflation associated with farm products . . . I believe that America can feed the world. I believe that we have the capacity to feed the entire world."

Karl Rove's Non-Denial Denial on Siegelman Case

On This Week this morning George Stephanopoulos asked Karl Rove if he denied contacting the Justice Department prosecuting former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman. He responded with a textbook non-denial denial.

If Siegelman's and Alabama GOP lawyer Jill Simpson's stories are true, that would make this case the centerpiece example of the corruption of the DOJ revealed by the US Attorney firing scandal. In fact, it would make most of what we know now seem minor by comparison.
