<p>Can anyone tell me what the hell a “verbal rape” is? <br /><br />For some reason, that’s what Bill O’Reilly thinks the media is doing to George W. Bush in the wake of former White House press secretary Scott McClellan’s book, <em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/What-Happened-Washingtons-Culture-Deception/dp/1586485563/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;s=books&amp;amp;qid=1212084947&amp;amp;sr=8-1" title="what happened">What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception</a>.</em> This is how BOR described it during his <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,362391,00.html" title="mcclellan int transcript">interview</a> with McClellan:<br /><blockquote>MCCLELLAN: I'm trying to take my partisan hat off and look at the real problems we've got in this country and D.C. And how do we fix those? That's what I did. It's much larger than the president or Karl Rove or any one person. This is about something bigger. And that's the message that has been getting lost while people try to turn this book into a gotcha points. It's not about that. It's about sharing my experiences so we can learn from it.<br /><br />O'REILLY: Then why didn't you lecture the far-left guys who did turn it into gotcha points? Why didn't you tell that to them?<br /><br />MCCLELLAN: I think I did say that same message that people have been trying to turn this into gotcha points. And we need to focus on the larger message.<br /><br /><strong>O'REILLY: You sat there while these people at NBC and some at CNN just raped the president verbally. Just killed him. Does BOR actually think that discussing the lies, failures, and broken promises of the Bush administration as discussed in a book is somehow the equivalent of the media violently forcing Bush to have sex with them? What kind of perverted bizarro world is that? Exactly how was Bush violated? Did BOR defend Bill Clinton as the victim of verbal rape during the coverage of the Monica Lewinsky trial? If I receive a bad job evaluation because I am genuinely bad ay my job, have <em>I</em> been verbally raped?</p>

<p><p>The mainstream media, blogosphere, and Jewish mothers alike (mine specifically) have been up in arms over Louis Farrakhan's endorsement of Barack Obama. This frenzy began with Richard Cohen's <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/14/AR2008011402083.html?hpid=opinionsbox1"><em>WaPo</em> Op-Ed</a> last month. Cohen stated that Rev. Jeremiah Wright, pastor of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ (to which Obama and his family belong), runs a church-related magazine that gave Louis Farrakhan an award last year. </p><p>Though Obama has <a href="../blog/30741-why-do-black-politicians-still-have-to-denounce-farrakhan">both rejected and denounced</a> Farrakhan's support time and time again, this storyline has still snowballed. It's not surprising that <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200802260008">FOX News</a> has taken this thread and gone <a href="http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/02/27/anti-obama-attacks-zero-in-on-farrakhan-support-israel-policy/">hog-wild</a>, given their propensity to spread smear. What <em>is</em> frightening, however, is how some members of the Jewish community have fallen for this neocon ploy <a href="http://www.forward.com/articles/12508/">to paint Obama as an enemy of Israel</a>. Even Danny Ayalon, the recently retired Israeli Ambassador, has <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/id/114723">questioned</a> Obama's plans for dealing with Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.</p><p>Earlier this week, Obama <a href="http://www.nysun.com/article/71813?access=120992">set the record straight</a> when he met with 100 members from Cleveland's Jewish community. </p></p>

<p><p>Animal Farm and 1984 are two of my all-time favorite books. I have both on audiobook and try to listen to Animal Farm at least once a year. I think it’s a book you could even read to kids, despite the fact that some animals do get killed. Then again, if kids are forced to go through the trauma of every parental figure in a Disney movie dying (Bambi’s mom, Nemo’s mom, Simba’s dad, etc), I think they can handle Animal Farm.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/archives/001654.html" title="jonathan schwartz">Jonathan Schwartz</a> found a great passage from 1984 that he thought sounded applicable to today. Try this: replace “A Party member” with Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Fox "News" viewer, Melanie Morgan, any troll, Ann Coulter, any neocon, Bush, Cheney, Rudy Giuliani, the republican party, or the name of almost any conservative you know or have heard of. Replace “the Two Minutes Hate” with “O’Reilly’s Talking Points Memo”, a Bush press conference, or “whenever (conservative/republican’s name) speaks”. Then read this:</p><blockquote><strong>A Party member…is supposed to live in a continuous frenzy of hatred of foreign enemies and internal traitors</strong>, triumph over victories, and self-abasement before the power and wisdom of the Party. <p><p>As you probably know, southern California is in a state of emergency today as at least 15 separate wildfires fed by gale-force Santa Ana winds ravage the state. It has caused one death (so far), the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people, and the destruction of dozens of houses. In light of that, the “liberal” media’s Glenn Beck said <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200710220003" title="glenn beck good fire">this</a>:</p><blockquote><strong>I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.<br /></strong></blockquote><p>See, “a lot” of the people in southern California who saw their houses burn deserve it because they “hate America”. Since Beck couldn’t possibly know the political affiliation of all those fire victims, one must imagine it’s the fact that they would dare to live in commie-loving, terrorist-supporting California that justifies the destruction of their homes and, possibly, their lives. It’s “unfortunate” for those fire victims, but it’s <em>awesome</em> for Beck and those who share his political views because they get to watch those lousy victims get their comeuppance!<br /><br />To anyone surprised that anyone could be such an unbelievable prick, let me ask this: Are you familiar with the republican party?</p></p>

<p>I feel a bit guilty writing about Coulter because I don’t want to give her the attention. FOX continues to house her cage in their studios, and major networks continue to inexplicably feature her as she hawks her new screeds. As she becomes more and more of a caricature and her looks continue to fade, she has been lashing out in louder, more bigoted, more racist ways in a desperate attempt to get people talking about her. She seems to enjoy being hated, seeing it as proof that she is pushing the right buttons. However, sometimes people don’t hate you because you’re getting under their skin — sometimes it’s just because you are a horrible person. Even though racism is all the rage with conservatives these days, being un-PC doesn’t make you cool or a rebel any more than it puts your racist, homophobic grandpa on the cutting edge. As Coulter told George Gurley of <a href="http://www.observer.com/2007/coulter-culture" title="couter women shouldn&#39;t vote">the New York Observer</a>:<br /><blockquote>If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president. It's kind of a pipe dream, it's a personal fantasy of mine… -snip-<br />It is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it’s the party of women and 'We’ll pay for health care and tuition and day care -- and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?'<br /></blockquote>Hmm. Coulter, who <em>claims</em> to be a woman, says women shouldn’t vote and democrats should be embarrassed to be associated with women. Why would she say that? Maybe because...(Austin Powers voice) <em>SHE’S A MAN, BABY!</em> </p>

<p><p>Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, depraved right-wing wacko Ann Coulter suggested that <strong>the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that Jews needed to "perfect" themselves into Christians.</strong> Whatcha' think Joe Lieberman?</p><p>Enough is enough. Although I have defended Coulter's constitutional right to be on television in the past and would probably do so again; <strong>I think any network that has her on after these remarks is intentionally giving an implicit endorsement to what she says.</strong> There is no longer an amusement, interest or surprise factor with Coulter; everyone knows who she is and what she believes. It has no news value anymore.<br /> </p><p>Giving her a platform to sell books with the knowledge that she is a racist, bigoted anti-semite who could very well spout reprehensible and offensive garbage like this anytime she is on the air is at best stupid and at worst unprincipled. <strong>Her noxious words can only encourage white supremacists and Nazis and the people should let network executives know this.</strong> </p><p>This country has a strange sense of what's indecent and obscene; we deny condoms to drug addicts and execute teenagers but allow despicable pieces of garbage like Coulter to thrive. </p></p>
