QUESTIONER: "My main concern is our economy. I'm scared to death at what direction we're going in. We spend 300 billion at war, in this war."

JOHN MCCAIN: "Now remember we're having a question now not a speech."

QUESTIONER: "All this money is being wasted as far as I'm concerned."

AUDIENCE MEMBER: "Booooooo!"

MCCAIN: "This is a town hall meeting now, but you have to ask a question."

QUESTIONER: "How can one of our companies, any of our companies, be able to take their products to china, build a factory then sell it back to us? How come we allow that to happen, how come jobs are being sent overseas?"

MCCAIN: "Thank you. I expected that question to be about Iraq. We're in a global economy, and the fact is that jobs are moving all over the globe. But the fact is America remains the biggest exporter, the biggest importer, the greatest innovator. We're going to have to address the issue of abuse of intellectual property rights by China, we're going to have to address currency imbalance. I have to also give you some straight talk, China will be a superpower, China will be a superpower my friends. And we're going to have to be advocates for human rights, for democracy, for intellectual property rights. I'll also give you some straight talk; we will maintain a military presence in Asia, places like South Korea and Japan. To preserve some stability in the region. By the way in case you missed it, our new best friends the Vietnamese! Because they are scared to death of the Chinese, its wonderful, I'm so welcome back in Hanoi, It's wonderful! [Inaudible] my flight suit. So we're going to have to be tough with China."
