Clinton Sinks to O'Reilly's Level

Hillary Clinton is set to appear on the O'Reilly Factor tonight and tomorrow night. FOX has already begun releasing highlights like this one, in which Clinton criticizes Jeremiah Wright and his speech at the National Press Club on Monday. And while we'll have ample time to dissect Clinton's appearance and why on earth she agreed to go on O'Reilly in the first place, what needs to be addressed now is the possibility that an ardent Clinton supporter arranged Rev. Wright's press club speech.

According to the NY Daily News and the LA Times blog Top of the Ticket, Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds organized the press club event. Reynolds has praised Clinton in the past, writing on her own blog: "My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you." She has also been unduly critical of Obama: "It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, [Obama] is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement."

So to recap, a Clinton supporter arranges to give Wright a national spotlight to make incendiary remarks, forcing Obama to once again denounce his former pastor. Then, Clinton goes on FOX News to criticize Wright (and by extension, Obama) and the controversy that one of her supporters helped create. O'Reilly and his FOX pals, in turn, will use this as an excuse to rehash a stale news story that Obama has already distanced himself from. And then, to top it all off, the rest of the mainstream press will continue to play excerpts from this interview for days on end. When will this faux news cycle end?

Think Twice About Voting for Hillary Clinton

The 2008 election holds the possibility of making US history- it is likely that either the first woman, or the first black man will be elected President. I see this as a victory for the under-represented, regardless of whether Obama or Clinton wins. I do think Hilary would make a good President, she is very capable as a politician. However, there are a few reservations I have with Hilary's husband which I think are worth discussing, particularly after 8 years of Bush's foreign policy…..

Clinton supported the dictator of Indonesia, General Suharto. His invasion of East Timor and internal violence led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. A senior Clinton administration official called Suharo "Our kind of guy" in the New York Times, 10/31/95

Bill Clinton bombed the Al-Shifa medical factory in Sudan on August 20, 1998. The factory manufactured anti-malaria drugs, saving thousands of lives in Africa.

Clinton provided enormous military aid to Columbia, who had the worst human rights record in the western hemisphere; increasing from $50 million to $290 million by 1999 (Noam Chomsky). They committed numerous massacres against their own people, such as the Trujillo massacre, where "Some 107 suspected unionists and guerrilla supporters were tortured and dismembered" (Wikipedia, Trujillo Massacre). Clinton also provided massive military aid to Turkey, "In the single year 1997 alone, US arms flow to Turkey exceeded the combined total for the entire Cold War period up to the onset of the state terror campaign" (Noam Chomsky) .

The UN sanctions against Iraq in the Clinton years caused an estimated 500,000 children to starve to death (UNICEF). Lesley Stahl of 60 minutes asked Clinton's UN Ambassador Madeleine Albright if the 500,000 children's deaths were worth it. She said she thought so. In her book, Albright expressed regret at saying the comment. Sadly, her comments imply that she regrets being honest more than she regrets the 500,000 deaths.

Albright was also in Rwanda when the genocide there began in 1994. "She led efforts to deny declaring the massacres in Rwanda genocide" (Wikipedia Albright).

These six events total more than a million deaths, many of which could have been prevented by Bill Clinton (but certainly not all of them).... In many cases, Clinton was directly responsible for the deaths, and in many cases, Clinton provided the arms for these atrocities. After 8 years of Dick Cheney, do we really need another arms dealing politician in office?

Barack Obama Goes on Fox News Sunday

The Fox News Sunday interview is over. And Obama didn't take on Fox at all in any meaningful sense.

On Friday, a senior Obama adviser responded to criticism of his decision to go on Fox with a bunch of tough talk, saying that Obama knew full well that Fox has been at the forefront of spreading "the most specious of rumors" (i.e., lies) about Obama and vowing that he would "take Fox on."

Well, it didn't happen. Obama definitely pushed back hard on some of Chris Wallace's questions, but at no point did he draw attention to Fox's spreading of lies about him or critique the network in a general sense.

Obama had a perfect opening to do this, too. Wallace pressed him repeatedly about Jeremiah Wright and the bogus "flag pin" nonsense -- a perfect set-up for Obama to point out that Fox had obsessed about both these issues to an obscene degree and that Fox had been at the forefront of spreading the Obama-is-a-Muslim lies.

To be clear, Obama wasn't obliged to go after Fox. But a senior adviser said Obama would, as a way of quieting criticism of him. And he didn't.
