My nickname is Mckrakin and I am a proud British citizen.

I identity as an American. I have been here for fifth-teen years in an American society going through grade school, high school, and college. I have been an intricate part of my community and everyone views me as an American. There is a sense of betrayal coming to America and legally being left out to dry because of aging out. I will always be proud to be a British Citizen and it will always be my home.

At the age of ten my parents, siblings, and myself moved from the United Kingdom legally to the United States for my fathers dad job opportunity. We left behind grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and another life. It was a hard transition and culture shock that took a long time to get used to. I am currently the age of twenty-five.

My country of birth is the United Kingdom and I still have a vivid memory of the England that it used to be. I am sure it has changed beyond belief. It would be a good assumption that living in England would not be much different from here. The main point is that we should have the right to choose in the first place. The right to have freedom to do what we want and be where we want. Everyone should have that right. My parents made the right choice at the moment to seize an opportunity. I blame nothing in their fault but do wish that future situations would have been made aware and the consequences. It would have been nice to avoid the situation entirely.

I have received two bachelor degrees of music with an emphasis of Vocal Performance and Music Pedagogy. They were from an accredited American University. Music thou is not my true passion. I am a avid actor and performer. In 2005 I auditioned for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and got accepted to the prestigious school. Due to my status and lack of money I was unable to attend. It hurt a lot to be so close to my dream yet so far away. The location where I live allowed me to attend college. People don’t think of a British person having an immigration problem. It hurts to not be able to have the rights of a normal citizen. People take freedom for granted.

The words "war on terror" will no longer be used by the British government to describe attacks on the public, the country's chief prosecutor said Dec. 27.
Sir Ken Macdonald said terrorist fanatics were not soldiers fighting a war but simply members of an aimless "death cult."

If only those words were for American soldiers:

GORDON Brown yesterday delivered a stirring festive message to Our Boys in Iraq: “Happy Christmas – war is over.”
The PM was cheered as he praised UK troops and revealed combat operations in Basra will end “within two weeks”.
Iraqi forces will take over as the 4,500-strong British force switches from front-line duties to a training role.
By early next year, our contingent in Southern Iraq will be cut to 2,500 – and may be withdrawn completely in March.

Bush would never hear of that. Anyone who would even suggest such a thing doesn't support our troops, is a traitor, and could be sent to Gitmo for some good old fashioned waterboarding.

They don't videotape that kind of "enhanced interrogation" any more, so nobody would ever have to know.

Hmmm. Britain leaves, and there's a 90% drop in violence. What in the world could that mean? What can we learn? There must be a lesson in there somewhere. There must.

Attacks against British and Iraqi forces have plunged by 90 percent in southern Iraq since London withdrew its troops from the main city of Basra, the commander of British forces there said Thursday.

So let me get this straight...

The presence of British forces in downtown Basra, Iraq's second-largest city, was the single largest instigator of violence, Maj. Gen. Graham Binns told reporters Thursday on a visit to Baghdad's Green Zone.

Sooooo, by leaving, violence dropped drastically. I just know someone's trying to tell me something here.

Since that pullback, there's been a "remarkable and dramatic drop in attacks," Binns said.
"The motivation for attacking us was gone, because we're no longer patrolling the streets," he said.

Thinking... wracking my brain... the area's being patrolled by Iraqis, not foreign forces. Again, what does this mean? It's driving me mad! Mad, I tell you! Somebody give me a sign!

British officials expected a spike in such "intra-militia violence" after they pulled back from the city's center, and were surprised to find none, Binns said.

Someone? Anyone? Just a hint?

British officials have also said they cannot guarantee that any troops will remain in Iraq by the end of 2008.

Something about withdrawing troops? Is that it? Am I close?

Dwindling Allies: Breaking Up is Hard to Do

The U.S. and Britain are breaking up. No more pub dates, no more shared cream teas, no more romantic excursions to Iraq.

Britain is withdrawing its forces in Iraq, as we know, and Bush is looking more stubborn and unreasonable than ever. His legacy will include increasing disdain by the rest of the world and Brown giving Bush his ring back:

One by one, its members have ceded the bloodstained ground to the battling Iraqis and the unyielding U.S. president. Prime Minister Gordon Brown's decision Monday to halve the vestigial British military force in Basra was inevitable; backing the U.S. in Iraq has become a political albatross for governments all over the world.

And those countries who have hung in with him aren't exactly there because the cause is compelling. The shrinking Coalition of the Unwilling is on its last legs:

Georgia and Poland, which desperately need U.S. goodwill as a bulwark against a resurgent Russia, still maintain a symbolic presence.

Keyword: Symbolic.

What was once our very specialest ally is now our ex-very specialest ally. Yes, they're taking their Failure to Launch DVD, kevlar vests, and backpacks and going home:

But Britain is our special ally, and so its decision to bail out is momentous.

And as usual, the reputation of the United States suffers:

More ominously, it represents a repudiation of the Bush administration's argument that stability in Iraq is of vital importance to the entire Western world.

BushCo's collective lower lip must be quivering as it stares longingly at the sterling-framed map of England on the White House wall, signed by Tony Blair, "We'll always have Baghdad".

The United States should take note and recognize that it is a delusion to believe that any foreign occupier can stop Iraqi factions hellbent on fighting for power. We owe the Iraqis our best efforts at mediation, but to insist on stability as a prerequisite for withdrawal is to commit to indefinite and fruitless military occupation.

I wonder who will Bush will turn to on the rebound...?
